The maximum depth of seasonal freezing in culvert foundation was about 2 times deeper than that in natural ground. In order to ease the situation, the measure of laying thermal-protective coating under the culvert is usually taken as a solution. In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of three kinds of commonly used insulation materials were compared through the equivalent thickness conversion method. Based on the existing monitoring data of the culverts in Harbin to Dalian passenger dedicated line, a finite element model was established to simulate the temperature fields of the culverts with thermal-protective coating. To verify the effect of the thermal-protective coating, a numerical calculation was conducted respectively on different locations, modes and thickness of the thermal-protective coating to understand the influence of different conditions on the maximum frozen depth and to obtain the optimal laying scheme for culvert foundation. The results indicated that foam concrete is the ideal material for the thermal-protective coating, and the 38-cm-thick foam concrete should be laid on the top of the experimental culvert foundation as thermal-protective coating, which should be 10cm broader than the foundation. In this way, the maximum freezing depth under the culvert could be reduced, to meet the needs of construction in the cold region. © 2015, Science Press. Along with rapid development of Metro networking operation in recent years, transfer volume forecasting for the Metro system in networking conditions becomes an important issue to be solved. In this paper, the transfer volume forecasting method was proposed on the basis of route choice analysis and passenger flow distribution. Taking into consideration the variables of level of service such as the ride time, number of transfers, transfer time and congestion degree and introducing in the index of angular cost value to describe the influence of network structures and route directions on route choices, the route choice model was established to analyze passengers' route choice preferences. Through equivalent ride time conversion of the above influential factors and analysis on the degree of passenger tolerance to travel time, the effective route set of all OD (Origin-Destination) pairs was constructed with the K-shortest paths algorithm. Then stochastic assignment was carried out with the MSA (method of successive averages) algorithm under constraint of the first and last train and the statistical method was put forward to calculate the transfer volumes of all transfer stations within a specified time interval. Finally, the transfer volumes of the Beijing Subway were estimated with the proposed transfer volume forecasting method. The results show that the angular cost value significantly influences the route choice behavior and the proposed method can provide good reliability and accuracy.","PeriodicalId":35766,"journal":{"name":"Tiedao Xuebao/Journal of the China Railway Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70068047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the EMU running velocity increases, rail surface irregularities, undulations of the catenary and vibrations of the pantograph head cause the status of pantograph-centenary electrical contact to deteriorate seriously and generate pantograph-catenary arcs frequently. The arcs erode the contact wire and pantograph strip, endanger the current-receiving quality between pantograph and catenary and restrain further raizing of the EMU speed. So it is very important to study the pantograph-catenary arcs. In this paper, the pantograph-catenary current-receiving process was analyzed. The pantograph-catenary arc test system was developed, which simulated the flexible and straight contact of pantograph and contact wire, pantograph strip zigzag movements and vertical up and down movements of the pantograph. The test system was used to study, the pantograph-catenary contact resistance, and the electrical parameters and shape features of the arcs.","PeriodicalId":35766,"journal":{"name":"Tiedao Xuebao/Journal of the China Railway Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70068512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
