{"title":"Academic Map Library Weeding","authors":"Martin Chandler","doi":"10.15353/acmla.n171.5291","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15353/acmla.n171.5291","url":null,"abstract":"While maps remain an important part of library work, there has been a dearth of scholarly discussion on weeding maps. Some authors have offered suggestions in particular contexts – notably in public libraries and U.S. depository libraries. This leaves significant room for further discussion for those outside of the U.S. context, and those with more general map libraries. Following a literature review and contextual information situating the author's involvement in the topic, a discussion of methods and appropriate considerations are offered for weeding map collections. These guidelines are offered in point form in the conclusion for ease of referral.","PeriodicalId":35718,"journal":{"name":"Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives Bulletin","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43438820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Colleen’s account of her ongoing research opens our eyes to the fascinating environmental history of the Welland Canal. She shares her experience of involvement with a SSHRC Insight Development Grant-funded project, and explains how knowledge of local environmental history and the varied technical skills of our trade have much to add to academic partnerships. As we redefine the nature of our work and reconsider research library mandates, the trend towards becoming full partners in research is important - a wonderful challenge and opportunity for many of us. Thank you, Colleen for continuing to inspire and lead us!
