Postoperative peritonitis remains one of the most common causes of relaparotomy, accounting for 35 %-56 % of all intraabdominal complications. The diagnosis of postoperative peritonitis is based on clinical and biochemical examinations, the informative value of which is insufficient. One of the most informative methods of diagnosis of postoperative peritonitis with abdominal sepsis is a study of indices of endogenous intoxication and immune response of the body, such as medium-mass molecules, IgA, IgM, IgG, and complement activity. Objective: The objective of the research is to study the changes in immune response in patients with postoperative peritonitis with abdominal sepsis.","PeriodicalId":35684,"journal":{"name":"Gaceta Medica de Caracas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42780284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diabetes mellitus is one of the four non-communicable diseases causing 60% of deaths—and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus complications in South Sulawesi is 32.71 %. This study aimed to examine the risks of obesity, duration of diabetes, physical activity, smoking habits, and hypertension for complications in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study is analytical observational with a case-control study design, in which data were collected from 150 patients with diabetes mellitus in Makassar, selected by purposive sampling with 50 respondents in the case group and 100 respondents in the control group, respectively. El creciente avance en el área de la epigenética lleva a otorgar un protagonismo a los microrganismos, especialmente aquellos causantes de enfermedades progresivas. La cavidad oral es un complejo anatómico ideal para el desarrollo de microrganismos patógenos, que darán lugar a procesos de enfermedades bucales. Las bacterias de la boca se encuentran en un estado simbiótico cohabitando en un equilibrio constante. Cuando existe una disrupción entre esa homeostasis, se genera un proceso de disbiosis, donde los microorganismos patógenos toman el control y dan origen al surgimiento de diversas patologías orales como la enfermedad periodontal.","PeriodicalId":35684,"journal":{"name":"Gaceta Medica de Caracas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44277228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The immediate alterations included atrial fibrillation with a high ventricular response, bradycardia requiring pacing, and alterations due to right ventricular pressure overload (right bundle branch block). After the initial perioperative course, we observed good evolution after transplantation and clinical treatment. At the one-year follow-up, the patient remained without signs of rejection and with grade I functional capacity, free of cardiovascular events.","PeriodicalId":35684,"journal":{"name":"Gaceta Medica de Caracas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44125911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were analysed with Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results: Respondents with good self-management knowledge were 94 times more likely to manage the disease (Ex(b) = 94.26), and those with good self-efficacy were 54 times more likely to practice good self-management behaviour. Conclusion: Factors greatly affecting self-management are knowledge, self-efficacy, and family support. Ahora bien, para ofrecer respuestas a la emergencia sanitaria ocasionada por la pandemia, la comunidad científica incrementó su producción científica asociada a dicha temática. En el caso de la Gaceta Médica de Caracas, tuvo un papel importante a nivel regional e internacional en la producción científica, pues publicó 136 documentos con temas relacionados a la COVID-19 desde enero del año 2020 hasta el mes de abril de 2023. Los tipos de documentos más publicados fueron los artículos originales (57,4 %), los artículos de revisión (18,4 %), las editoriales (7,4 %) y las introducciones (7,4 %). Por lo expuesto, resulta importante que la revista continúe fomentando la participación de investigadores de diferentes latitudes del mundo mediante la publicación de los resultados de sus estudios, ya que cumple con estándares editoriales y actualmente se encuentra indizada en bases de datos de alto impacto.","PeriodicalId":35684,"journal":{"name":"Gaceta Medica de Caracas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42462346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
