Spectrum sensing techniques suffer from high processing time, hardware cost, and computational complexity. To address these problems, compressive sensing has been proposed to decrease the processing time and expedite the scanning process of the radio spectrum. Selection of a suitable sparse recovery algorithm is necessary to achieve this goal. This paper provides a deep survey on these sparse recovery algorithms, classify them into categories, and compares their performances. Six algorithms from different categories were implemented and their performances compared. As comparison metrics, we used recovery error, recovery time, covariance, and phase transition diagram. In existing systems, traditional filters are used to cancel the noise from the received signals. These filters use fixed hardware which is capable of filtering specific frequency or a range of frequencies. However, next generation communication technologies, such as cognitive radio, will require the use of adaptive filters that can dynamically reconfigure their filtering parameters for any frequency. To this end, a few noise cancellation techniques have been proposed, including least mean squares (LMS) and its variants. However, these algorithms are susceptible to non-linear noise and fail to locate the global optimum solution for de-noising. In this paper, we investigate the efficiency of two global search optimization based algorithms, genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization in performing noise cancellation in cognitive radio systems. These algorithms are implemented and their performances are compared to that of LMS using bit error rate and mean square error as performance evaluation metrics. Simulations are performed with additive white Gaussian noise and random nonlinear noise. Energy saving is one of the promises of Smart Buildings. This can be achieved by controlling the HVAC system, lights, and other energy consuming appliances in relation to the activities of people in the building. In particular, presence is an important factor to consider. By using beacons such as those based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and mobile phones, one can deduct occupancy information by interacting, over WiFi, with a central server. In the present study, we investigate BLE utilization for transmitting the occupancy data to the server using off-the-self devices with several parameters, e.g., distance, packet size, and line-of-sight state. Furthermore, we propose a utilization of size-constrained BLE packets for transmitting occupancy data, which was previously only possible by means of HTTP over WiFi. The result shows that it is possible to transmit occupancy data via BLE, despite of its resource constraints. However, due to multipath fading, shadowing, and varying channel conditions, uncertainty affects the cognitive cycle processes, measurements, decisions, and actions. In the observing process, measurements (i.e., information) taken by the secondary users are uncertain. In the next step, the secondary users make decisions based on what has already been observed using their knowledge bases, which may have been impacted by uncertainty. This can lead to the wrong decisions, and, thus the cognitive radio system can take the wrong actions. Hence, uncertainty propagation influences the cognitive radio performance. Therefore, mitigating uncertainty in the cognitive cycle is a necessity. Specifically, we statistically analyze the characteristics in operation under conventional heterodyne detection (HD) scheme for both adaptive modulation (AM) case in addition to non-AM case (i.e., coherentnon-coherent binary modulation). Then, based on the statistically derived results, we evaluate the outage probability (CDF) of a selected beam, the average spectral efficiency (ASE), the average number of selected beams (ANSB), and the average bit error rate (BER). We collected more than 300,000 marijuana related tweets during November 2016 in our study. Our text-mining based algorithms and data analysis unveil some interesting patterns including: (i) users' attitudes (e.g., positive or negative) can be characterized by the existence of outer links in a tweet; (ii) 67% users use their mobile phones to post their messages while many users publish their messages using third-party automatic posting services; and (3) the number of tweets during weekends is much higher than during weekdays. Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) based retransmission schemes are bandwidth inefficient due to data duplication at receivers. Network coding (NC) has been shown to be a promising technique for improving network bandwidth efficiency by combining multiple lost data packets for retransmission. However, it is challenging to accurately determine which lost packets should be combined together due to disrupted feedback channels. This paper proposes an adaptive data encoding scheme at the transmitter by joining network coding and machine learning (NCML) for retransmission of lost packets. Our proposed NCML extracts the important features from historical feedback signals received by the transmitter to train a classifier. The constructed classifier is then used to predict states of transmitted data packets at different receivers based on their corrupted feedback signals for effective data mixing. We have conducted extensive simulations to collaborate the efficiency of our proposed approach. The simulation results show that our machine learning algorithm can be trained efficiently and accurately. The simulation results show that on average the proposed NCML can correctly classify 90% of the states of transmitted data packets at different receivers. In this paper we introduce a new, simple and economical circuit to warn the user in cases where the message is not encrypted because of manipulation by attackers or accidental damage. This circuit not only consumes very low power but also is created to sustain telecommunication devices in aspect of security and using friendly. In most of the developing and under-developed countries, the civil registration and vital statistics systems are non-existent or weak. As a consequence, fertility, mortality and other key demographic information are not calculated from actual data on a continuous basis, these data are rather estimated through survey and do not cover large segments of the population. However, vital statistics data are important to any government for proper planning, resource allocation and development. Manual birth and death registrations is time-consuming and inconceivable for a large population. Information technology has already become an effective tool in the civil registration processes, but the registrar general office for birth and death has to depend on the health department as the birth and death events occur at hospitals and health care facilities. Survey results show that birth registration rate within 45 days of birth is very low and it is only around 3% in Bangladesh. In order to strengthen registration system, coordination between registration agency and health department is necessary and a notification for birth/death event should be reported to the registration agency for further action. To address this issue, we have designed a system that will send a notification to the registrar general office when a birth record is obtained in the health information system. In Bangladesh, the District Health Information System version 2 (DHIS2) is used in the health department for aggregated data collection and reporting purpose. Thus we studied DHIS2 system to see the feasibility of generating birth and death notifications upon collection of field data by the community health workers and designed and implemented necessary interfaces for the field worker, DHIS2 and Registrar general office. The regeneration of population practice is integrated to the conventional real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) in order to improve evading the neighboring minimum solution by self adaptation and q-Gaussian distribution followed by polynomial mutation impact with arithmetic crossover.
