China is the only country in the world where the number of doctors is larger than the number of nurses but education programmes for other health professions like physical therapy have been slow to develop. In the case of physical therapy it was not until China won the bid for the Olympic Games that permission to establish the first physical therapy programme was granted. Since then China has undergone a period of rapid economic growth enabling many people to have a higher standard of living and improved health, but at the same time the country is faced with massive urbanization, industrialization, increasing environmental health threats, increased health disparities and an aging population. With the support of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, an increased investment by the Government in public health and rehabilitation and engagement of international education experts, entry-level education programmes for physical therapy have started to develop and there are now nine which are modeled, at least to some extent, on the World Confederation for Physical Therapy's international guidelines. The paper explores the development of physical therapy education in China and discusses possible options for the way forward so that as the demand for physical therapy to service 1.4 billion people grows, the profession is prepared and the standards expected of the entry-level physical therapist will not be compromised. 中图分类号:R493 文献标识码:A 文章编号:1001-1242(2013)-06-0493-11","PeriodicalId":35498,"journal":{"name":"中国康复医学杂志","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70067651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: Thirty healthy male volunteers, aged 18—30 years, were randomly assigned into three groups (n=10 each): EMS group, voluntary isometric contraction (VIM) group, and control (CON) group. The patients of EMS and VIM groups were trained the right legs, 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks. All groups were tested for muscle strength and sEMG pre-and post-training period. Result: Repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni adjustment revealed significant increase (P0.05) in dorsiflexion maximal voluntary contraction(MVC) of both legs in both EMS group(33.6% on the right leg, 27.8% on the left) and VIM group(37.4%, 28.5%), while CON group showed no significant increase (1.3%, 0.8%, respectively). The average amplitude of electromyogram(AEMG) improved significantly in both limbs of EMS group (P0.05; right 68.1%, left 57.7%) and in VIM group(100.4%, 59.4%), CON group(5.04%, -4.07%) (P0.05), respectively.There was non-linear relationship between muscle strength and amplitude of surface myoelectric signal during iso-metric contraction, y=43.762(9.584) t . Conclusion:The results indicated that unilateral EMS and voluntary isometric training could significantly improve muscular strength not only in the exercised legs,but also in the contralateral limbs. The results also indicated that the increased AEMG was responsible for much of the improved strength.A non-linear relationship between muscle strength and sEMG amplitude, could probably use to assess subjects' exertion test for clinical rehabilitation.","PeriodicalId":35498,"journal":{"name":"中国康复医学杂志","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70067561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another10rats was set as sham operation control group (OC). EA groups received EA on the accupoints of Quchi (LI 11)and Neiguan (PC6) on forelimb, and Zusanli (ST36) and Xiajuxu (ST39) on hindlimb. EA was given with opposing needle(ju ci) method, cross stimulation at left and right side, at 3mA, in cycles of (loose/dense)10Hz:50Hz/5s:10s, 15min per session, once a day, 7 sessions per week. Infarction volume of the brain was calculated by TTCdying and photoshop IPP analyses. Neurological scores were evaluated by modified neurological severity score(mNSS) method at day 3, 7, 14 and 21 post-MCAO.Result:The mNSS scores in HT group was lower than that of MC group at day 3 (P0.05); At day 7 and 14,the scores in both EA groups were lower than that of MC group (P0.01) and also significant differences werefound between both EA groups(P0.01). The mNSS scores in both EA groups were almost returned to the level ofOC group at day 21 and much lower than that of MC group(P0.01). The infarction volume in HT group wasless than that in DT group, while that in both EA groups was lower than that in MC group(P0.05).Conclusion:EA on unaffected limbs at very early stage after stroke had greater beneficial effect in facilitating neurological function recovery and allviating the infarction volume of brain, compared to that on affected limbs.","PeriodicalId":35498,"journal":{"name":"中国康复医学杂志","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70067608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
