The study investigated role of staple food production in ensuring food security in Nigeria. The objectives of this study are to: determine the impact of staple food production on gross domestic product of crops in Nigeria, investigate the value of government guaranteed agricultural loan to farmers on agricultural production in Nigeria, and examine the value of food import bill on total value of import of Nigeria. The study employed time series data. Data is generated from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Bureau of statistics bulletin. The study employed the ordinary least square (OLS) of simple regression. The study conducted both econometric and statistical tests. The empirical results showed R2 value of 0.24,053 and 0.22 for models 1-3 respectively. The three models are rightly signed. The coefficient (β) of 0.1631 (model 1) showed that 100% increase in staple food production would lead to a 16.31% increase in gross domestic production of crops (GDPC). Since the computed t-value of 3.102765 falls outside the critical region of  0.0042, we reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternate hypothesis at 5% level of significance. The model 3 test showed that the total import bill (TIMB) was significantly sensitive to variation in the food import bill (β=30.7422). The result confirms that 30.7% of the variation in total import bill was accounted for by the food import bill. Based on the results, the study recommended that emphasis should be placed on one hand and ensuring food security (self-sufficiency) in general.","PeriodicalId":354619,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics & Sociology","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114151638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was undertaken to analyze the Economic feasibility of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) microfinance for dairy enterprise run by women particularly from buffalos in Marathwada region of Maharashtra state. Whole study was based on the primary data set which was collected from the Parbhani district for year 2015-16. Multistage sampling design was used in selection of district, tehsils, villages and SHG groups. The cross sectional data was randomly collected from the 70 members of buffalo rearing selected SHGs. So the required data was collected by personal interview method using pre tested schedules. The data collected was subjected to tabular and economic feasibility analysis i.e., Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit-Cost Ratio (B/C ratio), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net benefit – investment ratio (N/K ratio). The study revealed that the net present value was found positive and benefit cost ratio more than unity. The internal rate of return was higher than bank rate. So in the study area dairy is feasible enterprise and very much suitable for rural women to practice and empower them economically and socially. This feasibility analysis showed that dairy enterprise through microfinance gives more returns to women entrepreneurs. So, the financial institutions and NGOs should come forward to extent economic support and guidance to rural women through SHGs to take up these enterprises as an income generating activity.","PeriodicalId":354619,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics & Sociology","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124714754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the space and time constraints, the urban entity used to depend on rural community for their food products.  But in the same time, highly priced demand for land and the lesser profit from farming results in withdrawal of rural farmers from farming. And these above mentioned factors contributed to a gap in supply and demand for food. This gap leads to the non-availability of nutritious food and thereby, made difficult for urban dwellers  to access it due the high price. And the result was seen as a double burden in the form of malnutrition and obesity among urban dwellers. The concept of Urban Farming can bring back the traditional homestead farming culture and more than that, a nutritionally secured and environmentally sustainable society. As most of the urban dwellers are new to this setup, they need information and assistance for bring it in a successful way. Hence, there is a necessity for understanding their information needs, and the sources currently they are depending. The present study focuses on the information seeking behaviour and its utilisation constraints experienced by the farmers in an urban community. The study was carried out in the period from December 2020 to March 2021 in Ernakulam and Calicut districts which ranks first and third in degree of urbanisation in Kerala respectively. From the findings of the study it is understood that, their information needs varies from the selection of nutritious food crop to marketing of surplus quantity produced. The constraints analysis could give suggestions for improvement and it can narrow down the gap between farmers - extension system. Based on this, an integrated urban farming extension model has been designed for the effective information dissemination to the farmers. This can save time of farmers and efforts of extension agents, and it will motivate them towards potential adoption of more technologies.","PeriodicalId":354619,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics & Sociology","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126254021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Benin, 62% of agricultural land were degraded in 2017. In this regard, Sustainable Land Management measures are highlighted by various public decisions. This study analyzed the political, legislative, and organizational frameworks of Sustainable Land Management in Benin. It was carried out through content analysis of laws, decrees, and Sustainable Land Management policy documents to highlight the place of innovativity in institutional and organizational framework in Sustainable Land Management in Benin. Results reveal that the various frameworks analyzed are oriented towards developing practice-based innovations through the implementation of Sustainable Land Management measures, support to actors in the implementation of Sustainable Land Management innovations and the monitoring and evaluation of Sustainable Land Management strategies. The capacity to innovate is also promoted through the strengthening of the technical, institutional, material, and financial capacities of the actors. On the other hand, the propensity to innovate component of Innovativity is hardly addressed in Sustainable Land Management public policies in Benin. It is therefore necessary to direct agricultural policies towards an institutionalization of the strengthening of the propensity to innovate of agricultural producers for a long-term appropriation of Sustainable Land Management measures in Benin.","PeriodicalId":354619,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics & Sociology","volume":"198 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132712573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
