Under the umbrella of the publisher’s broader network, it operates in conjunction with the wider interface of searchable e-book content, reference guidelines, and test prep materials. The collection caters to physical therapy practitioners and students, but remains relevant as an interdisciplinary resource for medical educators. Its e-books functions as the major component of the platform and may be accessed directly by way of a simple search query or browser component. One unique aspect of AccessPhysiotherapy is its integration with F.A. Davis Physical Therapy and Athletic Training collections. These special catalogs of reference books, physical therapy cases, and instructional videos are among the most comprehensive educational resources in the disciplines of physical therapy. Medical libraries can benefit from the AccessPhysiotherapy’s integrated collection of e-books and broader content. Schools and departments within health sciences institutions will also find the content worthwhile.","PeriodicalId":35388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries","volume":"18 1","pages":"119 - 128"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44532899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kont, Siret Piirsalu","doi":"10.1080/15424065.2021.1955068","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/15424065.2021.1955068","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Purpose The current study aims at measuring patron awareness, readiness, usage, and preference regarding electronic books among students and lecturers at Tallinn Health Care College. The results will help the college design future library collections, promote e-books more effectively to reach as many patrons as possible, and encourage patrons to use more e-books. Methodology An online survey was developed and made available via the institution’s Study Information System. The questionnaire was sent to 1,696 college patrons (including 1,606 master’s degree and higher education students, and 90 academic staff members). Three hundred and forty-six completed questionnaires were returned, and responses were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. Results The survey indicated that most of the respondents are aware of what an e-book is and have used them at least once. Most of the respondents preferred the college to purchase books in both printed and electronic format. The most popular reasons for preferring e-books were not needing to physically borrow the book, having 24/7 access from home, and the ability to download and read e-books on a laptop, smartphone, or tablet. The main reasons for disliking e-books were having to read on a screen, the costs involved, the limitations when printing pages, and the concern that the battery may become discharged during reading. Open access is also highlighted as an alternative to guarantee the availability of scientific information for patrons because the University of Applied Science libraries in Estonia do not get financial support from the government. Originality/Value Although the college regularly surveys library users’ satisfaction with its services, the patrons’ attitudes toward e-books has never been studied. The results are valuable to the college. First, the Library Working Group was established by the Estonian Rectors’ Conference of Universities of Applied Sciences to change the state funding scheme for acquiring high-quality scientific, scholarly information. Second, there is more emphasis on making open-access e-books more visible on the website, and the addition of new e-books is announced through the college’s social-media channels. Third and most important is that the subject Foundation of Research for first-year students will be taught by the college library staff. This gives them the opportunity to encourage and guide students to use e-books.","PeriodicalId":35388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries","volume":"18 1","pages":"81 - 105"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42166637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the transition to at-home work was disruptive, it was only a single source of disruption among many: the pandemic itself, healthcare systems, misinformation, political turmoil, and extreme weather conditions. At the same time, I was faced with the constant pressure to “disrupt” my own work by finding new pathways for students and employees to access health science information, new sources of money flowing into the institution, and new methods to helping people make sense of the information sources we already provide. In this column, I want to make sense of these many disruptions and how the interplay between them is indicative of a wider cultural emphasis on pressuring library workers to achieve greater success with increasingly fewer resources. I begin with an introduction to complex systems theory as a means of making sense of disruption. Second, I establish the different ways that disruption affects those of us working with health science e-resources. Finally, I consider how organizational pressure to achieve greater success is antithetical to self-nurture, and how we can develop new avenues of resistance to preserve and care for ourselves and those around us.","PeriodicalId":35388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries","volume":"18 1","pages":"154 - 159"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59931278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
