This research aimed to study the different dispositions of corrugated fiber cement tiles, being rotated 90° and with mortar barriers in relation to the quality of the water collected, the temperature and the amount of water retained for the purpose of contributing to the delay of surface runoff. The study methodology was through in loco data collection. The data were treated statistically to evaluate the correlation of results regarding temperature changes and similarities in water quality. It was found that over time the fiber cement tiles were less and less releasing physicochemical particles in the water, and that the changes in the dispositions did not influence the temperature. Tiles rotated by 90º showed higher water retention, making them an appropriate type for use in delaying surface runoff.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81334297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of small dams along the hydrographic network can contribute to the guarantee of ecological flow, even in periods of drought. However, the identification and location of these structures is difficult, as they often do not have the proper authorization. Thus, this work aims to evaluate the availability of water in the Piraí River Basin, using the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) tool, based on satellite images. The Ribeirão Piraí sub-basin is located in the region of the Piracicaba-Capivari-Jundiaí River Basin (PCJ), and has accelerated urban growth, which together with the increase in other human activities in recent decades, contributes to a significant change in several natural cycles. From the results, it is observed that the tool proved to be adequate to perform the temporal analysis of the formation of water mirrors (through the sequential analysis of successive satellite images) to understand the regional dynamics, as well as the general water availability of the basin.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"64 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79260086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Everyone has the right to have access to an adequate supply of safe and drinking water. Safe water cannot be sustained only by monitoring its quality, it is necessary to guarantee the supply of water on a continuous basis. The Water Safety Plan carries out a systematic assessment that identifies and characterizes the hazards and risks of water supply systems for human consumption, from the source to the point of delivery, aiming at a preventive risk approach to help guarantee the security of water served to the population, establishing control measures and thereby reducing the burden of diseases related to water supply. The Water Safety Plan is an important instrument for identifying possible deficiencies in the water supply system, organizing and structuring it to minimize the chance of incidents. The Environmental Health Technical Chamber (CT-SAM) of the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiaí River Basin Committee (PCJ) has been a pioneer in water security, carrying out actions in the municipalities in order to encourage the implementation of Water Safety Plans to ensure the implementation of the Environmental Health Policy, approved within the scope of the PCJ Committee's area of ??activity.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90692307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increase in ammoniacal nitrogen concentrations in raw water is worrisome in Brazil due to the preservation conditions of the water sources, since the discharge of untreated sewage and/or industrial effluents is still a reality in the country. Besides contributing to the insertion of pathogenic microorganisms, in general, these effluents have increased concentrations of ammoniacal nitrogen, a compound that reduces the chlorine disinfection potential, widely used disinfectant in water treatment and, therefore, it can jeopardize the water microbiological safety. Thus, it is indispensable that the breakpoint chlorination be ensured to eliminate ammoniacal nitrogen and combined chlorine from the water.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87904905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to Brazilian regulation, final effluents must not have the potential to cause impact on the receiving body and, to assess this impact, toxicity tests are required. The objective of this work was to evaluate the acute toxicity with Daphnia similis and chronic with Ceriodaphnia dubia of final effluents from 4 sewage plants (ETEs, named A, B, C and D) from Campinas, SP, Brazil, with different treatments’ levels. Six monthly campaigns were carried out in 2022 and samples were collected before and after chlorination. The effluents from ETE B showed acute toxicity in all campaigns, and effluents from ETE A and C showed acute toxicity in at least one campaign, but with low toxicity (EC50, 48h >50%). Chronic toxicity was detected in all effluents, except in ETE D (reuse water production station) indicating the great efficiency of the treatment of membrane bioreactors (MBR). Acute tests with fish embryos (FET) will be performed to compare the results of tests with cladocerans. The evaluation of the impact potential of the effluents will also be carried out based on the average of effluent discharges and in reference to the respective receiving bodies.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85355732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used was deductive, as it is based on two true premises: (1) The river basins are altered by human actions, (2) the quality of the source of water supply becomes a challenge for the operators of water treatment plants. (WTP). The predominant activities in the municipality are livestock, agriculture, mining, logging and trade in services. The results showed that the Uraim River basin has high deforestation of native vegetation. Twelve areas of high and very high risk of a mass movement and flooding were identified, which are associated with the disorderly expansion of the urban area, combined with the geomorphology and geology of the region. It is recommended that the Uraim River basin committee be implemented, so that its watershed management can take place, in the incessant search for improving the quality of source of water supply, so that it is feasible to capture, treat and distribute safety drinking water to the population.","PeriodicalId":35222,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Aristotelean Society","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87026141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
