Since radio’s significant shift from verbal to musical content, songs have been able to create a special bond between broadcasters and audiences across the world. Nevertheless, selecting songs is far from being an innocent choice; it is part of a cultural framework (Ala-Fossi, 2005; Gjerdingen & Perrott 2008). Recently, scholars explained radio’s alliances with the music industry and the adaptation to audiences’ preferences (Kaplan, 2013; Uimonen, 2017), thus arguing that the music in radios’ playlists is far from diverse, especially on stations owned by the private sector. This article draws upon the premise that a more comprehensive approach towards this topic is needed. Inspired by previous studies on commercial radio musical policies (Uimonen, 2011; Hellman & Vikko 2019), this research makes use of a methodological tool to characterize music diversity in the two most popular Portuguese commercial radio broadcasters. After two weeks of observation, in March 2020, the authors of this article analysed 2366 song entries, concluding that the general policies for the playlists seem to be similar: a typical predominance of international singers/bands, male artists and English-spoken songs, including the overwhelming presence of worldwide labels associated to the majority of the songs. However, these national broadcasting stations seem to have their own set of artists, especially when it comes to Portuguese singers/bands. Future research should aim at analysing artists’ and broadcasters’ views on this cultural framework, as a way to expand the possibilities of understanding this complex and decisive topic within radio broadcasting and music industries.

Public diplomacy implies the communication between state and non-state actors and the foreign public, and the process of informing, influencing, establishing long-term relations and realizing foreign policy goals. While most studies to date view such communication activities as social interactions, some scholars consider them to be foreign policy activities, in which case the concept of public diplomacy is explained in terms of an interdisciplinary approach. Through the critical literature review, this article argues that public diplomacy shows the interaction between different communication stakeholders and the foreign public, where the former give direct messages and often achieve the desired effects through communication channels. Discussions about national cinema should therefore be placed within the context of the nation-state itself and transnationally. The continuity of fi lm industry in Croatia exists from the very beginnings of the fi lm, but it as a product of the cinema that is closely related to social, political and economic circumstances which had multiple implications on its development. The aim of the paper was to examine the features of Croatian national cinema as well as the aspects of its affi rmation and reception, which ultimately enabled understanding of the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema. Insight into the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema presents a wider picture of the problems and perspectives of Croatian national cinema today. The qualitative approach was used in the research and semistructured interviews were conducted with interviewees closely related to film and film production. The analysis shows diffi culties in developing a specifi c style and achieving greater international visibility. An important moment was the establishment of Croatian Audiovisual Centre which devised a plan for Croatian national cinema and brought fi nancial independence. This consequently led to the rise of investments and quality of fi lms and even to international festival visibility of Croatian cinema. At the beginning of the 21st century Croatian fi lm industry developed infrastructure, provided support for young fi lmmakers and created the preconditions for quality and innovative fi lm titles.

The study, based on qualitative\u0000document analysis and supplemented by interviews with stakeholders, showed\u0000that Slovenia was not successful in advocating stronger EU net neutrality safeguards. The rules of the single digital market within the EU with the limited\u0000subsidiarity of member states made it impossible to apply the original Slovenian\u0000legal safeguards. This indicates a reduced potential of nation states to advocate\u0000their communication policy objectives within the EU framework on one hand,\u0000and their ability to infl uence EU policymaking by encouraging a quicker common response with independent action on the other. Rezultati izvještavanja o slučaju Agrokor i njegovom kriznom komuniciranju daju uvid u obilježja medijskog izvještavanja u slučaju krize ovakvih razmjera i kriznom komuniciranju putem internetskih priopćenja.
