The birth weight of newborn lambs was recorded and then the study was terminated with calculating weaning weight of the lambs.Estrousandlambing rate, litter sizewere calculated as 96.45%, 90.55%, 1.09 respectively. Twinning rate was found as 9.08%. Even though stillbirths were 0.12% for single lambs and 3.09% for twin lambs; mortality rate of lambs until weaning was found as 22.57% for single lambs and 20.57% for twin lambs. Lamb birth and weaning weights were determined as 4.75 and 29.52 kg for single lambs; 3.82 and 28.80 kg for twin lambs; 4.19 and 28.44 kg for females; 4.38 and 29.88 kg for males. Reproductive parameters of Awassi sheep raised in the unusual climate conditions such as rainy and cold weatherwere not affected as much as expected. Satisfactory results were obtained from the study regarding to reproductive parameters in different climates despite some management problems affecting lamb mortality rate. Genotypes and preservation of Awassi population in Ceylanpınar Agricultural Enterprise are said to be really in good conditions.","PeriodicalId":351246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Livestock Science","volume":"574 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123647067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the passing of time, different organisms developed different types of strategies to thrive in hypoxic environments and microbial eukaryotes (protists) are no exception as these possess metabolically distinct mitochondria called mitochondrion related organelles (MROs). Among medically and veterinary important parasitic protists, there are a variety of organisms possessing MROs that reside in anaerobic niche in the body. The transformation from aerobic mitochondria to MROs occurred in independent lineages as a consequence of convergent evolution under anaerobic/microaerophilic conditions. Therefore, this review highlights the recent advances of MROs in parasitic protists.","PeriodicalId":351246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Livestock Science","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132731222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The total of 10 boars, 15 gilts and 442 semen dozes of Yorkshire and Landrace boars had been exchanged between two farms from 2000 to 2007. Records of individual performance test were obtained from 881 Landrace and 652 Yorkshire pigs in Binh Thang farm, and 835 Landrace and 1326 Yorkshire pigs in Dong A farm. Measurements were adjusted to days to 90 kg (D90) and backfat (mm) at 90 kg liveweight (BF90) referred on the recommendations of NSIF (2002). For Landrace pigs, genetic correlations of the same trait between two environments estimated using REML (restricted maximum likelihood) method in VCE5 software were 0.51 and 0.63 for D90 and BF90 traits, respectively. For Yorkshire pigs, these values were higher, 0.93 for D90 and 0.99 for BF90, respectively. Thus, the evidence of genotype by environment interactions was found in Landrace pigs for measured traits D90 and BF90, while this was not presented in Yorkshire pigs. This means the adaptation to alternative environments in Yorkshire pigs is better than in Landrace pigs.","PeriodicalId":351246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Livestock Science","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128280638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dry season generates feed scarcity, and farmers must develop strategies based on quality forage to reduce purchased inputs. The objective was to assess the performance of dairy cows grazing perennial ryegrass or tall fescue pastures both associated with white clover complemented with triticale (X. Triticosecale Witt.) hay during the dry season, as well as the agronomic and chemical composition of pastures and complements. An on-farm experiment was undertaken with a 4x4 Latin Square design with a factorial arrangement, using four Holstein cows. Treatments were TFH= Tall fescue with white clover + 3.0 kg dry matter(DM)/cow/day of triticale hay, RGH= Perennial ryegrass with white clover + 3 kg DM/cow/day of triticale hay, RGNH= Perennial ryegrass with white clover (no hay), and TFNH= Tall fescue with white clover (no hay). Grazing was for 8 h/day in two pastures (ryegrass and tall fescue) of 0.83 ha each, and cows received 4.45 kg DM of concentrate/cow/day. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) in sward height or net herbage accumulation.","PeriodicalId":351246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Livestock Science","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122465138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The virus was then provisionally designated as 2019-nCoV by WHO and officially named as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) by International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). On 11 Feb 2020, WHO officially announced the name of disease as Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and declared the global pandemic on March 11, 2020. Initially, the disease was highly restricted to China but later it scared the world because hugenumber of new cases was reported from the entire world in a short period of 5 months. The dynamic spread of this contagious virus occurred due to exposure of individuals from infected aerosols, community contact and travelling of affected individual worldwide. Bats were thought to be the initial source of this pandemic but the intermediate host of this zoonosis is yet to be established. Many studies reported fever, dry cough, dyspnea, generalized weakness, anosmia, ageusia, muscle ache, rhinorrhea, headache, nausea, conjunctivitis, vomiting and diarrhoea along with many non-specific symptoms as clinical signs of the disease. Many treatment regimen including various antivirals, antibiotics, neutralizing antibodies, repurposed drugs and traditional medicines were being explored but the authorized effective treatment regimen is still awaited. This review is aimed to summarize the current scenario and status of probable treatment options available for ongoing illness caused by the novel coronavirus.","PeriodicalId":351246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Livestock Science","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122332548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
