In order to understand whether genetic predisposition could play a role in defining the flexibility phenotype in rhythmic gymnastics, the purpose of this study was to review the current literature and systematically identify common polymorphisms linked to genes correlated with joint mobility in elite rhythmic gymnastics. Systematic computerized searches were performed from 1950 to 2017 in the following databases: Medline, Embase, Cinahl, Lilacs, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, Scopus and the Cochrane Central. Although the search initially identified 9761 studies, after removing duplicates and excluding by title and abstract, only 10 studies demonstrated potential to be included. After reading of full-texts, 9 studies were entered in the qualitative synthesis, thus only 1 study was eligible for this systematic review. The results of Tringali's study demonstrated that the COL5A1 CT genotype was linked to high joint mobility and to the occurrence of </span>genu recurvatum. From this systematic review, further investigations are suggested to confirm the results of involving genes related to physiological and anthropometric determinants of rhythmic gymnastics performance.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":34995,"journal":{"name":"Apunts Medicina de l''Esport","volume":"54 201","pages":"Pages 27-35"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.apunts.2018.10.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91373651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tendon courses close to the medial Achilles tendon mid-portion prior to insertion onto the medial calcaneus, although there is variation in course and insertion. Clinical suspicion of plantaris involvement includes persistent medial Achilles pain unresponsive to a rehabilitation programme and imaging revealing a thickened plantaris tendon and/or focal medial Achilles tendinosis. Potential mechanisms include compression or shearing forces between the plantaris and Achilles tendons. Initial treatment should consist of a modified loading programme avoiding end-range loading. However, modifying only the body weight does not reduce the risk, it is necessary to increase muscle mass, this implies there is a beneficial relationship associated with the muscle tissue that is not fully elucidated. During the last years, the most interesting cellular explanations have focused on the production of muscle cytokines called myokines, among which stand out interleukin 6, the inhibitory factor of leukemia, with others recently studied such as mionectine and muscline.
