In this paper, an original method will be presented to evaluate the input impedance of the EBG antennas excited by a line source or a point source. The method is based on the generalisation of the plane wave expansion of the antenna internal fields to cylindrical or spherical wave expansions. This procedure leads to simple and rigorous formulas which are very helpful for designing the EBG, FP and LW antennas and for understanding their electromagnetic behaviours.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123506181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wavelet transform with orthogonal basis function is applied to the extremely dense impedance matrix to reach a relatively sparse structure indicating the dominant surface currents. The optimum sparsity is reached by taking advantage of the resemblance between the basis theory of wavelet and the iterated function system (IFS) that generates the fractal structure. The input impedance and the radiation pattern of a microstrip Sierpinski Carpet fractal antenna is presented using the aforementioned method.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124889139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The vias used in conventional mushroom like structures are made slanted at an angle from the center of each patch and connecting to the ground plane. Numerical simulation on reflection phase response indicates that there is a dual band frequency of operation compared with that from the conventional mushroom structures with vertical vias. Furthermore, the slanted via can be made offset along one axis which helps to tune the separation of the two resonances.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examples of such systems include high temperature superconducting (HTS) filters as well as those within satellite, aerospace, and portable devices. Inter-digital and parallel-coupled resonators are amongst the most commonly used forms of coupled line circuit, for filtering applications. The parallel-coupled line filter was proposed by Cohn in 1958. It has remained popular ever since, due in part to its: (1) ability to realise a wide range of bandwidths, (2) insensitivity to fabrication tolerances, and (3) simplicity of design. Unfortunately half-wavelength resonators are excessively long, at low microwave frequencies. Furthermore filters based on half-wavelength resonators exhibit a spurious pass-band at twice the fundamental frequency. This is caused by dispersion resulting from the unequal even and odd mode phase velocities. For these reasons there have been sustained research efforts to address both size and spurious pass-band limitations. One of the techniques for suppressing spurious harmonics involves cutting grooves along the edges of each coupled line. The new filter, presented in this paper, utilises a periodic loading comprising a combination of a slot and groove. This technique also gives the ability to tune the centre frequency of the filter.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122310624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prospective features of aforementioned loading schemes have been discussed by various research groups, however, there lacks of a fair comparison in antenna performance taking into consideration of material dispersion and losses. This paper presents a comparative study on antenna performance, in particular, the beam pattern, gain, efficiency and bandwidth of three types of material/metamaterial loaded antennas as a function of physical size, electrical size and frequency. Selected antennas are built and tested, measurement results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123029987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduction of active electronic elements such as PIN diodes or photoconductors, allows the commutation between the electric state of continuous wires and the state of discontinuous ones. We switch from the forbidden gap of an EBG material made of the continuous metallic wires lattice to the forbidden band of the periodic discontinuous wires one, according to the voltage or the light intensity. The meta-surface consists of two closely located parallel grids of short dipoles and one grid of continuous wires in between. By tuning a dipole to the pass band of the superstrate and due to the magnetic dipole moments induced in the unit cells, a uniform illumination is achieved and therefore an enhancement of the directivity. Placing a second meta-surface under the dipole with the stop-band tuned to the working frequency, the back radiation is reduced. By combining low and high resonant-frequency unit cells and tuning dipoles to these frequencies, a double-frequency array is formed.","PeriodicalId":349412,"journal":{"name":"2007 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115902663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
