The pillars of the future wireless society will be the trustworthiness of the wireless positioning device and ecofriendliness of the transmission-reception process. These are triggered by the user needs, preferences and targeted applications, and by the type of the environment where navigation takes place. A link is still missing between these user needs/environment awareness (or application layer) and the physical layer where the wireless device is actually designed. The missing link can be created by cognitive approaches, borrowed on one hand from cognitive human behavior, and on the other hand from cognitive computing. Building a cognition stage between the application and physical layers will create a myriad of new possibilities for flexible location-based services and positioning-based applications, and possibly a new paradigm in wireless location research. MULTI-POS training network is bridging the gap between the lower technology layer and upper application layer involved in wireless mobile location. In addition, MULTI-POS will offer comprehensive training to young fellows in the broad field of wireless location, will create novel technologies and business models for the future location-enabled wireless devices, will promote the exchange of fellows in mixed academic-industrial R&D trajectories and in multiple European cultures, and will initiate an educational and research framework that unifies the currently fragmented research activities on technological and applications aspects of wireless navigation. There is strong involvement of industrial partners in the network to accomplish this.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128330898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast, multipath detection has not benefited that much. It has remained in background, with most of the current state of the art still relying on classical detection techniques. In this paper, we take a leap forward in multipath detection, and we propose a CUSUM-based sequential change detection algorithm. The aim is to focus on quickest detection techniques in order to detect the presence of multipath and to provide integrity to GNSS receivers. We will focus herein on multi-antenna GNSS receivers, with both single and multi correlator architectures, and numerical results will be used to validate the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130570104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is still no single low-cost positioning technology which provides position of its users seamlessly indoors and outdoors with an acceptable level of accuracy and low power consumption. For this reason, fitness of positioning service to the purpose of LBS application is an important parameter to be considered when choosing the most suitable positioning technology for an LBS. This should be done for any LBS application, since each application may need different requirements. Some location-based applications, such as location-based advertisements or Location-Based Social Networking (LBSN), do not need very accurate positioning input data, while for some others, e.g. navigation and tracking services, highly-accurate positioning is essential. This paper evaluates different positioning technologies from fitness-to-purpose point of view for two different applications, public transport information and family/friend tracking.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128990639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GNSS broadcast signals (in L-band) are strongly influenced by the atmospheric layers. In particular ionospheric effects are the most important in open-sky. The ionosphere effect can be reduced using linear combination of dual frequencies measurements or differential methods. In single point positioning, the receivers have to apply a correction model to limit ionospheric effect. NeQuick-G is the emerging model developed for Galileo, it over-performs Klobuchar model, in the both measurement and position domains. These improvements are compensated by a higher computational load which is fundamental, for mass market devices. The main goal of this work is to identify a trade-off between accuracy and computational load; to this purpose NeQuick corrections are not computed every epoch, but only periodically. The effects of this approximation are assessed for several validity periods in position domain using GPS measurements. The coefficients necessary to use NeQuick-G model are extracted by Galileo navigation message. From the analysis emerges that an optimal threshold for the updating rate is about 15 minutes, this trade-off reduces the effort of the receiver without degrading PVT accuracy.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131000916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This also applies to asynchronous pseudolite systems, i.e. systems where the different pseudolites operate in an independent way and have the potential to enable metre level navigation. Asynchronous pseudolite systems require however dedicated strategies in order to integrate GNSS and pseudolite information. In this paper, a hybrid asynchronous pseudolite/GNSS system is developed and an extended navigation solution integrating both pseudolite and GNSS observations is obtained. Loosely-and tightly-coupled integrations are considered along with two different pseudolite positioning approaches: proximity and Receiver Signal Strength (RSS)-based location. The performance of the approaches proposed has been tested in different scenarios including static and kinematic conditions. The methods developed are effective techniques for integrating heterogeneous measurements from different sources such as asynchronous pseudolites and GNSS and suitable for different contexts.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121139485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although various location technologies are integrated in one device, GNSS remains one of the main sources of precise positioning information. Traditionally, GNSS precise positioning has been achieved in relative mode using differential principles. On the other hand, with the technological advances in GNSS technology and processing algorithms, nowadays, GNSS precise positioning can also be achieved in absolute mode using a single GNSS sensor in combination with precise information about the satellite orbits and clocks. Such absolute positioning algorithm is known as Precise Point Positioning. PPP takes advantage of the carrier phase observation, the most precise observation from a satellite system. In this work, a PPP algorithm is implemented and tested for absolute georeference of data captured by a boat-mounted mobile terrestrial remote sensing platform. The estimation scheme for kinematic PPP processing is modified accordingly in order to reflect the test dynamics. The test results demonstrate that centimetre level accuracies are achievable in kinematic mode although the main challenge is to keep continuous satellite signal tracking. In addition, robust quality control and better outlier detection algorithms may further increase the usability of GNSS precise point positioning using carrier phase observations.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121667716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper several types of consistency are defined, and methods for its evaluation are introduced. Mean Squared Deviation consistency is based on the Chebyshev inequality, p equivalence is based on the fact that the concentration ellipse with probability mass p must contain the actual value of the estimated parameter with probability p, and Normalized Deviation Squared (NDS) consistency implies that a concentration ellipse of probability mass p contains the actual value of the estimated parameter with probability at least p. Hypothesis tests for consistency evaluation are presented. The NDS consistency test is applied to WiFi localization system data in order to investigate sources of inconsistencies and adjust parameters of the system. It is shown that underestimated measurement noise is the main cause of inconsistent behavior; however, an incorrect motion model or underestimated process noise might also result in inconsistent estimates.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131063770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, Bayesian framework is used in Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) positioning. Nevertheless, alternative approaches such as DST have also good potential in WLAN positioning, as it has been previously shown by using DST with WLAN fingerprinting. Our paper focuses on Path-Loss (PL) probabilistic approaches, which have the advantage of a lower number of parameters and lower implementation complexity compared with the fingerprinting approaches. We combine, for the first time in the literature, the PL position estimators with DST. PL approaches can be implemented with a variety of algorithms, and the deconvolution algorithms used in our paper are among the most promising implementations, due to their simplicity. We study the performance of the PL approaches with real-field data measurements and we show that the DST can increase the floor detection probability and decrease the distance Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) compared to the approaches using Bayesian combining.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"34 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120857463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The users are first classified into several user classes according to their Objective and Subjective Knowledge in the field of wireless positioning. Then, the user preferences with respect to various LBS aspects, such as cost and feature preferences, are analyzed per user class. In addition, the user classes are compared according to Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon and Fligner-Policello statistical tests in order to find out if their differences in the LBS preferences are statistically significant. The main finding is that the users belonging to the classes with higher objective knowledge in the field of wireless localization techniques and technologies are generally less willing to pay for enhanced localization approaches and for location based services on their mobile phones than the users with lower technical knowledge.","PeriodicalId":348921,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Localization and GNSS 2014 (ICL-GNSS 2014)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116217391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
