Using a long-term axillary crutch may be associated with arterial injury and induce upper extremity aneurysm formation. A 67-year-old woman had a history of using a long-term underarm crutch due to polio disease. Physical examination revealed edema of the left upper limb, pulseless of the brachial artery, and disappearance of distal radial pulse. The imaging examination revealed a brachial arterial aneurysm in the left upper limb, along with thrombosis. The aneurysm and mural thrombus were excised. The great saphenous vein graft was inserted to reconstruct occluded artery blood supply; the left brachial and radial arteries pulsed well after operation. This case report suggests that long-term use of axillary support for patients should be done with caution. Regular follow-up of upper extremity vascular morphology should be done. Timely anticoagulant therapy to prevent thrombosis and surgical resection of aneurysms are effective strategies for resolving complications.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"3 1","pages":"28 - 30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74275631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such studies were identified through searches of the MEDLINE and Embase databases in addition to a search of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials using appropriate search terms. These studies demonstrated that venous stenting is a durable intervention that confers clinical and quality of life improvement in patients with symptomatic CIVO who have failed conservative therapy. While significant improvement is common, complete resolution is rare, and in such patients, consideration should be given to treatment of other concomitant diagnoses including deep venous reflux, lymphedema, and chronic compartment syndrome.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"275 1","pages":"22 - 27"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89208370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were cultured under hypoxia to simulate the microcirculation of diabetic foot. Then, these were administered with SMYAD for intervention. Afterward, the cell viability was detected by MTT assay, the apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry, and the STAT3 signaling pathway and Bcl-2 and Bax protein expression were detected by Western blot. Next, TCMSP was used to determine the chemical composition and target gene information of the SMYAD, and the GeneCards database was used to search for the disease-related target gene information of diabetic foot. Furthermore, the Venny 2.1 online software was used to screen and obtain the drug–disease common target genes for the SMYAD and diabetic foot. The common target genes were entered into the STRING database for retrieval, in order to construct the network diagram for protein-related action, and the R software was used to analyze the pathway enrichment, in order to explore the mechanism of the SMYAD in the treatment of diabetic foot microcirculation. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the SMYAD increased the activity of HUVECs cultured in the hypoxia state but decreased the apoptosis rate. Furthermore, the protein expression of p-STAT3 and Bcl-2 increased, and the protein expression of Bax decreased (P < 0.05). A total of 235 drug-related target genes were found by screening, and 4553 target genes related to diabetic foot were obtained. The Venny software analysis revealed that there were 171 drug–disease interaction target genes. The STRING database and the GO and KEGG functional enrichment analysis revealed that STAT3, AKT, MAPK, and other proteins were involved, and that these may be correlated to the mechanism of the SMYAD in the treatment of diabetic foot microcirculation. CONCLUSION: SMYAD can affect the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax genes by regulating the activity of the STAT3 signaling pathway, playing a role in the treatment of diabetic foot.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"1 1","pages":"10 - 17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90495682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AIM: We evaluated the time benefit of saphenous veins marking by the AccuVein® AV400 system (AccuVein Inc., NY, USA) coupled with ultrasound, over ultrasound alone. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Multi-center open-label randomized interventional study in two parallel groups. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: After randomization, saphenous veins markings were performed using either AccuVein® coupled with ultrasound or ultrasound alone. One-leg marking time, vascular physician postexamination satisfaction rating, and number of single-use felt markers used were recorded. STATISTICAL ANALYSES: The continuous variables were compared using the Fisher test, whereas Likert scale scores were compared using the nonparametric Mann−Whitney test. The learning effect was evaluated by linear and nonlinear regression models. RESULTS: The average duration of saphenous veins marking (459 ± 184 vs 555 ± 226 s, P = 0.116) and the number of felt markers used were not significantly different between the two techniques. Vascular physician satisfaction was significantly lower with than without the AccuVein® associated to ultrasound. CONCLUSIONS: AccuVein® examination coupled with ultrasound as part of the marking process does not provide a significant benefit in terms of time, satisfaction, or need for markers.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"1 1","pages":"18 - 21"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83711051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It arises with changes in dietary habits and the aging of the population. The disease is characterized by being an inflammatory chronic process, generalized and progressive, with multiple risk factors that converge at the onset of itself. However, it is important to bear in mind that 20%–30% of patients lack risk factors and debut with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular accidents. OBJECTIVES: To determine in asymptomatic patients without previous atherothrombotic events, with risk factors and without them, the presence of atheroma in the carotid and iliofemoral sectors, with the use of Echo Doppler Color. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients were included between January and December 2019, without previous atherothrombotic events, with and without risk factors. All were studied with Echo Doppler color with transverse and longitudinal sections in the carotid and iliofemoral sectors. RESULTS: In this period, 426 patients were studied, 303 women with an age range of 37–84 with an average of 59.86 years old, 123 men with an age range of 40–92 with an average of 62.42 years old. The number of women with risk factors was 129 (42.62%), of which 41 (32.13%) had subclinical arteriosclerosis affectations and of the 174 women without risk factors, no subclinical arteriosclerosis was found. In men, the factors of present risk were in 55 (45.23%) patients, all of whom had arteriosclerosis subclinical and 25 (20.40%) patients had arteriosclerosis without risk factors. The presence of subclinical arteriosclerosis was 65.63% in men. The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors according to sex were: Arterial hypertension (M 48%, H 41%), diabetes (M 9%, H 11%), dyslipidemia (M 43%, H 48.5%), and smoking (M 21%, H 25%). The region more affected was the carotid in both men and women, with a slight predominance of single-site impact versus multiple sites. CONCLUSION: According to the results obtained, we can say that risk factors can predict events, but the use of Doppler ultrasound to detect atheromas increases the possibility of finding subclinical arteriosclerosis, which allows patients to be reclassified and thus intensify preventive measures.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"22 Suppl 2 1","pages":"111 - 115"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83529058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of the 125I-Fibrinogen test in the 1970s provided a means of screening surgical patients and demonstrated that the incidence of silent DVT varied from 17-47% depending on age, type and duration of operation. Only 4-6% of the patients with DVT developed symptoms. It has now been realised that although symptomatic isolated calf DVT is rarely associated with fatal PE, it produces local damage to venous valves with the development of reflux and post-thrombotic syndrome in 10-23% of patients and has a recurrence rate of 14%. In recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses of patients with symptomatic isolated calf DVT anticoagulation therapy up to 3 months reduces the incidence of recurrent DVT from 7.9% to 1.65% (RR 0.25; 95% CI 0.10-0.67). When anticoagulation period of 3 months was compared with 6 weeks it reduced the incidence of DVT from 14.4% to 4.8% (RR 0.32; 95% CI 0.16-0.64) Current guidelines of European Society of Vascular Surgery are as follows: “For patients with symptomatic calf DVT 3 months therapy is recommended over shorter durations (Class 1, Level A).","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"15 1","pages":"123 - 126"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80363669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective analysis of patients with left lower extremity CVD was conducted in a single institution from January to August 2019. A total of 326 patients, 98 with MTS and 228 without MTS after computed tomography (CT) venography, were finally enrolled in this study, and their basic information was recorded. MTS cases were distinguished from non-MTS cases by calculating area stenosis rate with CT three-dimensional reconstruction. The reference area of LCIV was also defined and calculated to analyze its coefficient of variation and relationship with influencing factors in patients with and without MTS. RESULTS: Ninety-eight cases of MTS and 228 cases of non-MTS were finally analyzed. In the MTS group, the mean area of reference LCIV was significantly lower (116.29 ± 53.17 mm2 vs. 160.44 ± 52.99 mm2, P < 0.01) and showed greater variability (0.21 ± 0.13 vs. 0.16 ± 0.08, P = 0.04) compared with non-MTS group. Obesity radio was significantly higher in non-MTS group (28.5% vs. 16.3%, P = 0.03). In both MTS and non-MTS groups, the increase of body mass index (BMI) was generally associated with statistically significant increases in the LCIV area (P = 0.002 and P = 0.005), while other factors showed no statistically significant correlation. CONCLUSIONS: The reference area of LCIV was redefined in this study. We found that the increase of the LCIV area in both MTS and non-MTS groups was correlated with an increase in BMI. Furthermore, a smaller area of reference LCIV and more variability in the LCIV area were found in the MTS group in contrast to the non-MTS group.","PeriodicalId":34849,"journal":{"name":"Vascular Investigation and Therapy","volume":"1 1","pages":"116 - 122"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81344474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
