Zorin","doi":"10.1109/UHF.1999.787985","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/UHF.1999.787985","url":null,"abstract":"Powerful ECR heating of a mirror-trapped plasma leads to formation of an anisotropic electron velocity distribution function (EDF): the average energy of the transverse, with respect to the magnetic field, electron motion is much greater than the energy of longitudinal motion. Theoretical studies of a mirror magnetic confinement of a multicomponent plasma with anisotropic EDF in a simple mirror trap reveals an essential augmentation in multicharged ion confinement time due to the EDF anisotropy. Consequently, the EDF anisotropy improves the ion charge state distribution (CSD). In this paper we discuss results of experimental investigation of an ECR discharge sustained by powerful pulse microwave radiation of a gyrotron in a mirror magnetic trap. In particular, data on plasma X-ray emission spectrum and on ion CSD are presented. The structure passage channel, where an annular electron beam propagates, is fully filled by plasma. The eigen waves of the plasma filled coaxial transmission line and their dependencies versus plasma density are investigated. TAU uses an integrated method for calculate two-dimensional electrical fields in metal electrodes' system, two-dimensional magnetic fields in system of ferromagnetics, solenoids and constant magnets and also two-dimensional thermal fields in collector. The distinctive features of these MBK are the low voltage and reverse focusing system with packed permanent magnets. The enumerated distinctive features predetermine the necessity to use a big number of the electron beams (40) and make impossible to employ the traditional toroidal resonators because of the substantial radial irregularity over the interaction gap field. The characteristic feature of MIGs is the trapped magnetic field distribution and therefore some of electrons with greatest oscillatory velocities are reflected from the magnetic mirror and then are locked into the adiabatic trap between the cathode and cavity. According to the recent experimental data trapped electrons render the essential influence upon beam parameters that in particular causes the necessity to reduce the share of the oscillatory energy t/sub /spl perp// in the beam for conservation of its stability. Decreasing of t/sub /spl perp// leads to reducing the output gyrotrons efficiency. These facts denote necessity further perfection of the theoretical model of HEB first of all by taking into account the electrons reflected from the magnetic mirror. Using this method, the algorithm for the complex input gap impedance of such structures has been derived and the calculated data are presented.
