Men with ED frequently encounter psychological distress in their relationships, including challenges in discussing ED, feelings of guilt, denial, depression, anger, decreased self-confidence, and self-esteem issues. This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 60 participants with ED. Basic sociodemographic and clinical profile data were collected using a self-designed performa. The PGI General Well-Being Measure Scale (Hindi version) was used to assess the general well-being of the participants. The Stress Coping Behavior Scale (Hindi adaptation) was applied to measure stress-coping behavior in patients diagnosed with ED. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Hindi version) was used to evaluate individual self-esteem. Majority of the participants fell within the age range of 21 to 40 years. They were predominantly married, employed, with a graduate level of education, and belonged to the middle socioeconomic class. Majority of the individuals experiencing ED exhibited a moderate level of general well-being, a moderate level of self-esteem, and utilized both adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies. A proper and detailed understanding of the psychosocial impact of ED will facilitate holistic treatment and improve mental well-being and overall life satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":34753,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychosexual Health","volume":"114 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate the interrelationship between internet addiction and peer pressure on adolescent depression. Methodology: The sample of adolescents ( N = 94) in the age range of 13–18 years was collected using a stratified random sampling design. Three major psychometric tools were administered to the sample, namely, Internet Addiction Test, Peer Pressure Inventory, and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Correlation and inferential analyses were done on the acquired data. Findings: The sample reflected moderate tendencies to have peer pressure, internet addiction and depression. It also showed a significant positive correlation between internet addiction and depression, an insignificant positive relationship between peer pressure and depression along with a significant effect of sex on adolescent depression but insignificant sex differences on peer pressure and internet addiction. Limitations: The descriptive nature of the study reveals less about the causal relationships between the variables. Implications: The study encourages parents to redefine their roles and parenting styles while dealing with adolescents.","PeriodicalId":34753,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychosexual Health","volume":"50 30","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134902982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed to review the impact of gender-affirming surgeries (GAS) on suicidal behavior in the transgender population. An advanced search was conducted on PubMed until February 28, 2022, and a total of 11 studies were considered eligible. Data were extracted on the size of sample population, control group, type of procedure, means of assessment, duration of time between surgery and assessment, and suicide-related outcomes. The considered outcomes were suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and death by suicide. Five studies compared the same patients pre- and post-GAS, while six studies compared patients who underwent GAS with a group who did not. Overall, suicide-related outcomes were found to be less frequent in patients after GAS when compared to those same patients’ pre-GAS indicators. The two studies that used either the general population or matched age and sex controls found a much higher prevalence of suicide-related outcomes, specifically suicide attempts and death by suicide, in post-GAS patients than in control groups. However, the studies that compared the treatment groups with either patients in an earlier phase of the transition or those who desired but had not yet undergone surgery showed lower post-GAS suicide-related outcomes, including suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. Suicidal ideation was generally found to decrease post-GAS; results regarding suicide attempts were inconsistent, and there was insufficient data to draw any conclusion about the effects of GAS on death by suicide.","PeriodicalId":34753,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychosexual Health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44213518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The laws and beliefs of a community may influence the attitudes of its members . For the majority of the time, people’s behavior will mirror their attitude. Teachers are the second parent to offer sexual education to youngsters. Regarding the implementation of a proper sex education in the school, it would be crucial to examine the teachers’ attitudes. The purpose of this study is to comprehend the school teachers’ perspective on sexual education and its execution in the Wayanad district of Kerala. This mixed-methods study included 40 Wayanad district upper elementary and secondary school teachers. After receiving clearance from the institution’s ethical committee and consent from the school administration, the professors were contacted. Along with the personal data sheet, the “Attitude scale toward sex education” and a semi-structured interview were used to collect data. The majority of instructors (58%) had a negative outlook on sexual education. There were no gender variations in school instructors’ attitudes regarding sexual education. The qualitative research demonstrated a disparity between the attitudes of school instructors toward sex education and their execution of sex education program in school settings. This study indicated the necessity to enhance the sexuality knowledge of school instructors in Kerala. It was also determined that government and societal support are crucial for implementing a sex education program in school settings.","PeriodicalId":34753,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Psychosexual Health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44989712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
