The mechanical properties of the muscles’ (m. gluteus medius, m. erector spinae lumbar part) were evaluated using MYOTON-3 Results. A great difference between both body side muscle’s (Gluteus medius and Erector spinae) tone asymmetry (> 10%) while standing increased. It can be explained by the fact that during the frst horseback riding exercises (which is similar to learning a new locomotor activity) a greater tension (muscle tone) is observed. Results on logarithmic gluteus medius and erector spinae muscles decrement asymmetry received after the fnal horseback riding exercise revealed that ten sessions of horseback riding is not influential enough to affect the elasticity of the mentioned muscle. The greater decrement shows depletion of mechanical energy of muscle structure. A great difference between both body sides muscle stiffness asymmetry after the tenth horseback riding exercise revealed that three-dimensional movements initiated by the horse are not influential enough in decreasing the gluteus medius and ererctor spinae muscles stiffness asymmetry for advanced and beginner horsemen. In the meantime the asymmetry of lumbar erector spinae muscle had increased for both beginners and advanced Conclusion. Bronchial asthma is becoming a global health issue: it is an increasingly common illness diagnosed in very young children. It is believed that the majority of people develop this disease in the early childhood. Tai Chi, which is a Chinese martial art combining harmonious breathing and body movements, can help to reduce stress, relax and maintain body balance. In addition, it allows those with asthma to better control their asthmatic fts and to improve physical potential. Research aim was to assess the effect of Tai Chi exercises on the respiratory function of 8–11-year-old children with bronchial asthma. Methods. The research was performed at Public Sanatorium. Two groups, each consisting of 25 children aged 8–11 years suffering from bronchial asthma, underwent examination. The following spirometry indicators were measured and compared: peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced expiratory volume in one second to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC). Schtange and Genchi specimen indicators were evaluated before and after 4 weeks intervention. The study group practiced Tai Chi exercises and the control group received regular physiotherapy in a gym. Results. All indicators of functional capacity of respiratory function after intervention increased in both groups statistically signifcantly, but there were no signifcant differences between groups. Conclusion. Both regular physiotherapy and Tai Chi exercises were equally effective in improving the respiratory function in children with asthma.Keywords: children, bronchial asthma, Tai Chi, physiotherapy","PeriodicalId":34737,"journal":{"name":"Reabilitacijos Mokslai Slauga Kineziterapija Ergoterapija","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45752986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vertebral artery relation with atlas anatomical variations can lead to sensomotor disorders of head and neck, and vertebrobasilar insuffciency. Kimmerle’s anomaly, a bony ring around vertebral artery, is also known as a risk factor for physical medicine procedures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the frst study of Ponticulus posticus prevalence in Lithuania. Aim. The research aim was to investigate the prevalence of skeletotopy variations of the posterior arch and vertebral artery among Lithuanian orthodontic patients of various ages and both genders. Research methods. We randomly selected 870 digital lateral cephalograms of Lithuanian orthodontic patients of various ages and both genders. 706 images with good visualization of VA bony socket shadow on the superior surface of the atlas posterior arch were chosen for the investigation. According to the degree of depth of the bony socket we categorized them into three variations: sulcus, groove and bony ring. If contours around VA of bony arch were equal or greater than 180°, we included those cases into the group of bony groove. Research results. We estimated predominance of sulcus (67.6%) of bony socket variations. A bony groove of various depths was found in 24.0% and a bony ring was found in 7.5% of the subjects studied. Vertebral artery groove was found to be more prevalent in females than in males and bony ring was more common in males than in females, but there was no signifcant difference (p > 0.05). Statistically signifcant predominace of bony ring in the age group of 17–20 years (13.2%) was observed and it was higher than in the age group of 8–16 years (5.1%) (p < 0.05). Conclusions. 1. Variations of bony socket including sulcus, groove, and bony ring (Kimmerle’s anomaly) develop in adolescence when ossifcation is most active. 2. The bony ring and semi open groove, which limit mobility of distal part of the vertebral artery, can be a risk factor of physical medicine procedures, especially in the elderly, whose artery walls are less elastic.Keywords: Ponticulus posticus, Kimmerle’s anomaly, atlas, vertebral artery, manual therapy of neck.","PeriodicalId":34737,"journal":{"name":"Reabilitacijos Mokslai Slauga Kineziterapija Ergoterapija","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43534019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different types of surgery are performed after assessing stage of the disease, tumour morphology, and other dimensions. Dysfunction of hand after surgery may affect physical, emotional and sexual function and quality of life more than body shape changes (Guan et al., 2012). The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life, shoulder range of motion, arm pain, circumference of arm, and hand muscle strength after breastconserving surgery after mastectomy. Methods. The study included 30 women, 15 of them were after breast conserving surgery, and 15 – after mastectomy. All subjects participated in the same physiotherapy program ‒ stretching and muscle strengthening exercises, shoulder girdle, neck and hand massage, lymph drainage massage (sleeve), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Duration of rehabilitation was two weeks. Quality of life, shoulder range of motion, arm pain and circumference, hand muscle strength of the affected side were measured before and after rehabilitation. Results. Regardless of the type of surgical intervention, the range of motion of shoulder flexion, extension and abduction in both groups after physiotherapy increased signifcantly, but for the patients who had undergone breast conserving surgery the ranges of motion were signifcantly higher (flexion – 163.20 ± 11,7°; extension – 48.53 ± 5.5°; abduction – 145.27 ± 13.6°) than for those who undergone mastectomy (flexion – 141.20 ± 13.2°; extension – 33.13 ± 4.9°; abduction – 130.33 ± 14.9°). It was found that circumference of the arm reduced significantly  in both groups, but comparing one group to another no signifcant differences were found. Pain intensity after physiotherapy in patients with mastectomy and patients who had undergone breast conserving surgery signifcantly decreased, but pain reduction was signifcantly higher in patients after breast conserving surgery (6.00 ± 1.1 points) compared to mastectomy group (3.67 ± 1.5 points). Muscle strength of hand of the affected side after physiotherapy increased signifcantly in both groups, but signifcantly more (up to 15.03 ± 2.1 kg) in patients after the breast conserving surgery compared to patients who had undergone mastectomy (up to 12.77 ± 2.0 kg). In addition, most of the functions of quality of life in patients who had undergone breast conserving surgery were signifcantly better than those in patients who had undergone mastectomy. Conclusions: 1. Regardless of the surgery type, shoulder range of motion and hand muscle strength increased signifcantly, and arm circumference and the pain reduced signifcantly after physiotherapy. 2. Core management is particularly important for uninterrupted and continuous movement. Proprioceptive information is important to maintain the position of the body and control the centre of gravity. Low back pain ultimately affects motor control and leads to proprioceptive changes in injured structures and also can cause balance disorders. Unfortunately, it is unclear until now how low back pain affects proprioception. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between low back pain and lumbar proprioception, functional stability, static endurance of trunk muscles and balance in adolescents. Methods. 42 adolescents participated in the study: 18 control subjects and 24 subjects with low back pain. We used the following assessment methods: the visual pain intensity scale (VAS) for pain evaluation, “flamingo” test, single leg test and balance error score system for balance assessment, Matthiass functional stability test for functional stability, and Biodex 4 Pro isokinetic dynamometer using trunk extension-flexion modular component and four points kneeling methodology for the evaluation of static endurance of trunk muscles, and proprioception. Results. After the assessment of balance, functional stability and proprioception, the results of the control group were statistically signifcantly better (p < 0.05). There was a moderate correlation between low back pain and Biodex 30 degree target reposition sense (r = 0.55), four points kneeling target position sense (r = 0.66), between low back pain and balance tests – “flamingo” and single leg test (r = 0.68, r = 0.61), between pain and Mathiass test (r = 0.52), also between proprioception and balance tests’ results (r = 0.44, r = 0.44, r = 0.46), proprioception and Mathiass test (r = 0.52). Cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement or position resulting from the immature encephalon defect or damage. Level of independence, behavioural and emotional skills of children with cerebral palsy are some of the main parameters of social development. Psychological factor is very important, too. Independent movement disorders and lack of professional help cause a lot of psychological problems in adolescence – depression, nervous excitement, at the time when they begin to understand that they are different from their peers. On the other hand, diffculties which they experience are not short-term, which can be overcome by mobilization of forces and the available internal resources, therefore child’s adequacy also highly depends on the parents’ quality of life. The goal of research was to evaluate behavioural and emotional impact on children’s with cerebral palsy skills of daily activities as well as their parents’ quality of life. Methods. The survey was conducted from May 2014 till April 2015 in Kaunas medical institutions which provided rehabilitation services for children. 30 children with cerebral palsy and their parents participated in the study. Average age of children who participated in the study did not differ signifcantly depending on gender and was 11.6 ± 2.1 years. Results. After the assessment of behavioural and emotional functions of children with cerebral palsy it became clear that they were the most successful in not talking back and swearing near adults. After the assessment of daily activity skills for children with cerebral palsy, it was obtained that the task which was performed the best by the children was communication, and the worst – cooking, bathing and taking the shower, as well as housework. Assessment of parents’ quality of life showed that the best evaluated by parents was their ability to perform what, in their opinion, was necessary in everyday activities, the worst – favourable physical environment for their health. Assessing the impact of behaviour and emotions on children’s with cerebral palsy skills of daily activities, statistically signifcant association was obtained (p < 0.05) between the scales of emotional and behavioural functions and parents’ quality of life among children with cerebral palsy. The study did not show statistically signifcant difference between children’s gender, age, and form of the disease. Conclusions. Children’s with cerebral palsy behaviour and emotions had signifcant influence on their daily living skills (p < 0.005). Children’s with cerebral palsy behaviour and emotions were mostly connected to their ability to use the toilet; the least connection was related to preparation / dressing skills. The most prevalent question in treating low back pain is how to choose specifc treatment method not considering treatment strategy. Scientists and clinicians propose subgrouping because the group of low back pain in patients is heterogeneous. One of the classifcations proposed is treatment – based classifcation described by A. Delitto et al. (1995) which will be used in our research. We are going to use clinical prediction rules according to which we are supposed to choose specifc treatment method and improve treatment outcomes. Consequently the main point of our research is a strategy of treatment process. Methods. Sixty people with chronic low back pain participated in our study. The following factors were estimated in the research: intensity of pain using a scale of numbers, functional state using Roland–Morris disability questionnaire, lumbar range of motion with a Modifed–Modifed Schober test, static endurance of trunk muscles with 5 min endurance tests. Results. Low back pain intensity decreased in the experimental group after 4 days and in control group – after 9 days (p < 0.05). Functional disability and back muscles static endurance was better in the experimental group after 9 days compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The present final paper presents an analysis of the effects of physiotherapy on foot function when treating the hallux valgus deformity. The research object was the change of the deformity degree of the great toe, foot pain, muscle strength, load distribution in the sole, trajectory of the sole’s center of gravity and foot’s contact with the movement’s surface in different stages of walking after the treatment. Objectives of the research were to analyze scientific literature about the hallux valgus, the concept of foot function and its treatment; determine the changes in the deformity degree of the great toe, pain intensity and muscle strength prior to and after the physical therapy exercises; assess the load distribution in the soles of the respondents, trajectory of the sole’s center of gravity and foot’s contact with the movement’s surface in different stages of walking prior to and after the physiotherapy exercises. Methods. The study was carried out at the Out-Patient Recuperation Center of the Public Institution Šiauliai National Hospital. The computer-aided pedobarographic assessment of the foot was performed by a representative of the Bauerfeind Company at the Manual Medicine Clinic. The study was carried out from December 2013 to April 2014. Twelve respondents afflicted with hallux valgus deformity participated in the study. The duration of the exercise sessions was 11 Results. According to the analysis of the research data, the intensity of pain was influenced by both the exercises and the use of orthopedic supports. However, the pain decreased more after physiotherapy compared to the use of orthopedic supports. The changes in the deformity degree of the great toe and muscle strength were also positively affected by exercises. In EKt group the muscle strength of the tested muscles changed by 1–2 points. In the EO group the muscle strength and the deformity degree of the great toe remained unchanged after the use of orthopedic supports.
