{"title":"SEMANTIC ORGANIZATION OF CLARIFYING CONSTRUCTIONS IN VASYL SHKLAR’S NOVEL “THE KEY”","authors":"Elina Oliynik","doi":"10.31494/2412-933X-2019-1-8-177-185","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31494/2412-933X-2019-1-8-177-185","url":null,"abstract":"The article outlines and describes the semantic varieties of clarifying structures in Vasyl Shklar’s novel “The Key”: 1) clarifying sentences of intellectual activity, formed by supporting words with the meaning of thinking, assessment; knowledge; conclusion, decision; 2) clarifying sentences of mental activity, formed by supporting words with the meaning of sensation, perception; belief 3) clarifying sentences of speech activity; 4) clarifying sentences of expression of will. The interest of scientists in clarifying complex sentences is due to the fact that such constructions include structurally and semantically heterogeneous units, which are the cause of constant discussions around this issue. Acquisition and assimilation of linguistic knowledge elucidative on ways of expressing clarifying relations in a complex sentence is explained by the structural complexity and semantic diversity of these constructions. The criteria for the allocation of semantic varieties of complex sentences are constantly reviewed in the syntactic tradition. An important factor in determining the semantic varieties of predicative sentences is the lexical loading of the reference word of the main part, the means of communication between the parts, as well as the valence precondition and the part-language features that require the obligatory presence of the contracting part. The main part of the clarifying complex sentences is informatively incomplete and needs a definite concretizer, which acts as a dependent part. It is appropriate to delineate the construction of this type by the semantics of the reference word of the main part.
