While this problem was modelled using so-called metric inequalities in the past, we will present an integer program which is based on the automatic linearization of non-linear constraints. It turns out that the linear relaxation of the latter formulation is actually stronger than the linear relaxations of the previously known models. Regardless of the applied protection scheme, there are several heuristic algorithms that can approximate the availability of connections based on the availability parameters of network components along the connection path. Accurate approximation can be achieved with simple and fast calculation only for the most basic protection schemes, the more complex the protection scheme is the more complex and long running calculation is required to get the result. Though, the inaccuracy of the heuristic algorithms is negligible in the most cases of practical usage. In this paper we present an availability calculation method for p-cycles that exploits the special properties of the p-cycle protection scheme and provides accurate results without enumerating all the possible network or protection configuration states. The method evaluates the availability of the connection along the working path link-by-link incrementally, pre-calculating also those conditional availabilities of the connection-part that may be used in latter calculations. The IP layer to physical layer QoS transfer control means the system can set physical QoS directly by using IP layer info. Three ways for this technique are explained. And an experiment system is introduced then. However, these networks have some limitations from the failure management point of view since failures may traverse longer distances and their effect are spread through the network, thereby increasing the number of alarms received by the network management and causing the degradation of more connections. The optimal placement of monitoring equipment gets even more interesting when considering the high cost of the monitoring equipment. This paper presents the language, which is still evolving. Recently, new solutions for automatized network management promise to allow customers to on-line specify the terms of the Service Level Agreement (SLA) to be guaranteed by the service provider. Since this new information is made available, we propose to exploit the knowledge of connection holding time, among the other Service Level Specifications (SLS), to improve the routing efficiency. In this work we consider that a typical electronic-layer (e.g. SDH or MPLS) demand requires only a fraction of the capacity of the single wavelength bandwidth and we investigate a new algorithm for traffic grooming of sub-wavelength connections in an optical mesh network. We rely on the knowledge of the holding time of connection requests to efficiently exploit lightpath capacity and hence to achieve significant reduction in blocking probability for the traffic grooming problem. Fast-reroute implementations have been proposed for Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks to make it possible to reroute traffic locally in case of failure. Hence, to each link is associated a bypass tunnel usable if the link fails. These protection tunnels can be pre-calculated in a centralized manner, that ensures faster traffic restoration and global resource optimization. This paper presents mathematical models and algorithms to compute fast-reroute protection tunnels. These bypass tunnels are computed with the aim of minimizing the congestion in any failure case. As a result, the solution proposed ensures a satisfactory quality of service for any of the planned events, as well as a good robustness to traffic variations and to unplanned events. The performance evaluation of the network is measured by simulating the behavior of dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithms with quality of service (QoS) support in the upstream traffic management. It distributes the traffic over several disjoint paths from source to destination according to a traffic distribution function. When a path fails, the traffic is redistributed to the working paths according to another traffic distribution function, i.e., the traffic distribution function depends on the failed path. The contribution of this work is the introduction of a failure-specific traffic distribution function for the SPM that depends on the exact failure of the paths. We present a linear program for the global optimization of the traffic distribution function of all SPMs in all protected failure scenarios.
