The preservation of the elements of the dream from the original version in the 1836 and 1842 publications suggests the presence of the motif in the storylines of both characters, but in an encrypted form. For encoding, the 12 days’ difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars (March 25 — April 7 in the 1842 edition) was used, which accommodated the events of one night in the original version.","PeriodicalId":347003,"journal":{"name":"Russkaya Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123393669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seemingly, the image of Lolita is a complete construct of Humbert’s narration. However, Nabokov’s way of composing the no vel allows certain empirics contributing to formation of Lolita’s image to escape the control of the narrator. In order to understand how Lolita’s image is constructed, it is necessary to analyze how Nabokov constructs Humbert’s narration about Lolita. Humbert’s narration contains certain hidden autonomous signs that diverge from visible dimension of his narration and modify the portrait of Lolita.","PeriodicalId":347003,"journal":{"name":"Russkaya Literatura","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128037345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
