The results of the research confirm the fact that this settlement was and remains inhabited by various ethnic groups, the main group being the native population. Although for a long time a family with Greek roots owned the locality, this did not lead to the formation of a large Greek community here. The most present in the socio-economic life during the 19th century – the first part of the 20th century was the Jewish community, who at that time reached more than 50% of the city’s population, dealing mainly with commerce and providing services. Other ethnicities (Poles, Germans, Russians, Ukrainians, Greeks and Armenians, etc.) were insignificant in terms of population in the city of Bălți during the above-mentioned period. The annexation of Bessarabia in 1940 by the USSR with the subsequent installation of the Soviet regime resulted in the substantial reduction of the number of Jews from the ethnic picture of Bălți and a significant increase in the number of Russians and Ukrainians in this locality during the Soviet period. As a result, after more than 30 years of independence, approximately 41% of the city’s population still declare Russian as their mother tongue.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experience of researching the memory of the victims of the totalitarian-communist regime in the Moldavian SSR and the analysing of new sources of historical research – the oral history testimonies – made it possible to investigate some undervalued layers, but with the deep potential to penetrate into the human dimension of history and the histories of those who have lived in Soviet-administered Bălți. The memory carried by the families that passed through the Soviet occupation in the city of Bălți in 1940–1941 and 1944–1991, respectively, is part of the today city’s historical heritage. By erecting monuments, organizing commemorative actions or thematic events, the places of memory will keep alive the memory of the victims of the Soviet occupation regime and the connection between the generations of Bălți residents. At the same time, these actions will build a European culture of memory, integrated into the European cultural heritage.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aspects regarding the history of the Association in the interwar period and its main concerns are dealt with: improving the material base of education within the county, modernizing the teaching process, defending and promoting the demands and professional rights of the teaching staff, the activity of the Teachers’ Bank from Bălți County, the organization of circles and cultural homes etc. The activity of the Association of Teachers from the city and county of Bălți between the two world wars fully confirms the truth expressed even in those years, that the fair and land of Bălți was not only an important economic and commercial center of Bessarabia, but also a strong cultural center.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Bessarabia, the Agrarian Reform served as the basis for a real campaign to distribute land plots to the local population, between 1925–1937, including the inhabitants of Balti. Beyond the main goal of the Romanian administration to increase the number of residents through the land acquisition procedure, we note the City Hall’s direct interest in obtaining management of the estate properties of the Catargi and Crupenschi families, on whose estates, by 1922, the city Balti. The study analyzes the context and the problems faced by the local administration in the process of allotment the residents of Balti, the urban development perspectives of the city are elucidated, including those of an aesthetic nature, such as the architectural style provided for future buildings, the ambience of neighborhoods with civil constructions and the actions provided for the greening of the city area. Also, based on archival sources and unpublished works, the problems generated by allotment even in the environment of the urban community were identified, among which we distinguish the subject of the transfer of the Orthodox Cemetery from the “Pamanteni” neighborhood to a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city or, even more frequently, the problem of repeated distribution of the lot due to the postponement of the subdivision plan and the change of place to other parts of the city. The analysis of these aspects contributes to the knowledge of the historical period and the consequences of the appropriation undertaken by the local authorities during the years 1932–1933 in the city of Bălți.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The annexation of the territories between the Dniester and the Prut rivers by the Soviet Union in 1940 also implied the forced establishment of Soviet power in this region. The city of Balti, being one of republican subordination, was subjected to the specific practices of the communist regime. The population had to endure the occupation regime – many people who wanted to flee to Romania did not have this possibility. The withdrawal of the Romanian army and the establishment of the Soviet army caused great trauma to the people, who became powerless in the face of weapons. The occupation was followed by sovietization and repression, which mutilated the ordinary life of the city in the interwar period. The testimonies of survivors emphasise the state of fear, insecurity, obedience imposed by the Soviet regime.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His creative activity is based on the connection of the three fields of arts: painting, music and literature. He writes poems, evokes the old times, paints. That is why the city of his childhood and youth – Bălți – appears to him represented as a universe rich in colors, shapes, sounds, etc. In all the works with this motif we feel the artist’s affection for the city of his soul. Ștefan Sadovnicov is one of the few artists of great sensitivity, depth and intelligence. The series of paintings with the title „the city that no longer exists...”, executed in the 70s–80s, are not just simple landscapes with buildings specific to the time, they retain deep meanings. The main reasons are longing, going back in time, nostalgic memories, etc. the visual artist did not simply paint the urban landscape, but selected the histories of the streets and buildings of Bălți, looked for old pictures and asked the residents. He approached the subject philosophically, drawing a parallel between the city and people who have souls.","PeriodicalId":34675,"journal":{"name":"Dialogica Revista de Studii Culturale si Literatura","volume":"371 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135298903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first attestations date back to 1901 and refer to the existence of seven breweries in Bessarabia: three – in the town of Hotin, one – in the town of Soroca, two – in the town of Chișinău and one – in the town of Bender. In the report of the governor of Bessarabia for 1904, the preponderance of the number of breweries in the northern area of the province is emphasized, and in 1905, in addition to the existing seven breweries, a brewery in Bălţi is registered.
