The present study evaluates the phytochemical constituents and in vitro antioxidant and antibacterial potential of the aqueous leaf extract of Phyla nodiflora . The phytochemical analyses were carried out using standard methods. The antioxidant activity of aqueous leaf extract was investigated by using DPPH and total antioxidant activity. The antibacterial assay was determined using the agar well diffusion method against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus , Bacillus subtilis , Klebsiella pneumonia e and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using streptomycin as a positive control. The aqueous leaf extract of Phyla nodiflora was screened against Human Hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cell lines to determine its anticancer activity. Phytochemical screening of aqueous leaf extract revealed the presence of steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, tannins, saponins and alkaloids. Aqueous leaf extract showed DPPH radical scavenging and total antioxidant activity with an IC 50 value of 45.91 µg/ml and 52.33 µg/ml. The highest zone of inhibition was found in K. pneumoniae (22.5mm), while P. aeruginosa (9.1mm) exhibited the lowest zone of inhibition, indicating that the leaf extract has significant antibacterial properties. The aqueous leaf extract of P. nodiflora exhibited significant antiproliferative activity against the HepG2 cancer cell line with an IC 50 value of 47.5 μg/ml. The increased apoptotic potential of HepG2 cells in a concentration-dependent manner was determined using the Acridine Orange/Ethidium Bromide assay. It has been concluded that the aqueous leaf extract of Phyla nodiflora possesses the potential for antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer activities.","PeriodicalId":34551,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences B Zoology","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87544875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results indicate that applied of gamma radiation had a significant effect on the duration of male and female feeding on salvia and Marshmallow leaves irrigated. The life cycle and generation period of irradiated females increased with increasing doses of gamma radiation and were significantly higher than the control. The female oviposition and longevity periods of T. urticae significantly increased with an increased dose of gamma radiation. The mean fecundity and daily rate significantly decreased with increasing doses of gamma radiation on salvia and marshmallows. A significant positive correlation was found between all immature stages, generation, and oviposition periods and the dose of gamma radiation. The Intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) and net reproductive rate (R 0 ) of T. urticae was the lowest at 45 Kilo rad (0.148 female/female/day and 20.59 female/female) and the highest value was found at control (0.256 female/female/day and 44.70 female/female), respectively on salvia leaves. The radiation of salvia and Marshmallow seeds reduced the fecundity of T. urticae females and prolonged the generation time than in control.","PeriodicalId":34551,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences B Zoology","volume":"80 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74830685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hard ticks Hyalomma dromedarii and Hyalomma anatolicum were collected from a camel in Saudi Arabia in October 2021. A total of 140 dromedary camels were selected by a simple random selection procedure. A total of 310 two different ixodid tick species, such as H. dromedarii and H. anatolicum were identified in camels. The infection rate of H. dromedarii was 78 % (242 /310) and that of H. anatolicum was 22% (68 /310). To identify H. dromedarii and Theileria sp. , polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using the COI gene and the 18S rRNA gene was done . The PCR-amplified 660-bp-long H. dromedarii and 400-bp-long Theileria sp. genes were analyzed with phylogenetic trees. H. dromedarii had a single genotype that was completely the same as that registered for H. dromedarii . The genotype of Theileria sp. found in H. dromedarii was highly similar to T. annulata by (99.9) %. This study may contribute to understanding the epidemiology of tick-borne diseases, thus, enhancing the detection and control of the diseases in Saudi Arabia.","PeriodicalId":34551,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences B Zoology","volume":"113 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81039103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Cobb broilers (n=1050) were randomly assigned 50 per treatment in triplicates to African palm weevil (APW), housefly maggot (HFL) and Cockroach (CKR) formulated meals for six weeks respectively. Meals were formulated with larval stages of APW, HFL and adult CKR in single and combined forms, and commercial hybrid feed served as control. Birds were raised in an experimental animal house dimensioned 21.34-meter length by 3.05-meter breadth and divided into seven squared compartments. These seven compartments were further partitioned into three compartments each using wood, ply boards and net gauze which served as the triplicates for the experiment. Meals and water were served ad libitum and feeding was done twice daily. Weekly readings of body length, weight, breast width, feed efficiency and nutrient retention analysis were done using fecal samples. Results and Discussion: Growth performance increased weekly and was highest in broilers fed African palm weevil meals (p< 0.05). Nutrient retention equally increased (p< 0.05). The retention of dry matter, crude protein and calcium, ether extract, crude ash and phosphorus increased in housefly and African palm weevil and commercial hybrid feed respectively. Implications and Applications: Using these insects can result in improved performance and greater nutrient retention; however, an increased number of weeks is required to assess more growth performance. A formulated feed meal of African palm weevils could be adopted as a viable alternative meals for commercial production of broiler meat.","PeriodicalId":34551,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences B Zoology","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91368080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This suggests different outcomes, and the subject remains contentious. We investigated differences in sperm parameters and embryonic developmental steps in our study, and the observations compare the results of ICSI using sperm extracted from testicular on patients with high sperm injury to the results of patients with sperm DNA fragmentation on ejaculate samples. Materials and Methods: From March 2017 to December 2019, 418 couples were enrolled in our study at the Algazeera Centre for IVF Giza, Egypt. The parameters of the sperm were evaluated. The value sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) was calculated desponded on the sperm chromatin dispersion (SCD) diagnostic test, which was applied to teams in the regulation (sperm DNA fragmentation index < 30%) or abnormal (sperm DNA fragmentation index > 30%) groups. Results: decrease in fertilization and blastulation rate in a group of patients suffering high sperm damage on ejaculate samples and our results show no difference between normal ejaculate samples and testicular sperm extrication ( SDF) groups. Conclusion: no impact was detected on ICSI outcomes (pregnancy rates) between the three groups but a negative effect for sperm DNA fragmentation on fertilization and blastulation rate and blastulation rate depended on the age of women and the number of embryos transferred.","PeriodicalId":34551,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences B Zoology","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90123968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
