The first step of the two-stage algorithm is distributed and is evaluated at the sensors having possibly low communication capabilities. The sensors detect various events in the acoustic signal and transmit only the event descriptors to the base station where the sensor fusion is calculated in the second step using a novel generalized consistency function. Test results validate the performance of the proposed system in a noisy and reverberant environment. According to experiments, the proposed system decreases the necessary communication bandwidth with multiple orders of magnitude and still provides high accuracy comparable with that of the sophisticated beam-forming methods","PeriodicalId":344061,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123398047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A set of these preferences can be grouped to form a user profile. One user may own several profiles depending on the environment (home or office) or time (working time or weekend). This article proposes smart cards for storing profiles and maintaining profiles in a secure and portable way. Each user owns one smart card containing several profiles. With the help of smart cards, profiles will be enabled or disabled in the moment the card is introduced into a reader device of a residential network. The auto-configuration features of a residential gateway are extended to read the smart card's information and to reconfigure the behaviour of the network including its services. This reconfiguration is supported by remote management tools. On demand, the configuration of a network might be stored on the smart card and thus an existing profile is modified or a new profile is added","PeriodicalId":344061,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130820227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each individual node has a special purpose sensor board with four acoustic channels and a digital compass enabling direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of acoustic sources. Upon detecting a source of interest, the sparsely deployed sensor nodes report their DOA estimates to the base station that fuses the data for accurate localization. Due to the widely distributed sensing and the novel sensor fusion technique, the method can handle multiple measurement errors prevalent in reverberant environments. The paper presents the overall architecture of the system, as well as that of the advanced sensor board. Furthermore, it describes the DOA estimation algorithm and the applied middleware services for coordinated sensing and communication, introduces the sensor fusion algorithm and presents a detailed error analysis","PeriodicalId":344061,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133990010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scheme uses a 2.4 GHz radio, simple real time processing, and offline range extraction. Methods for reducing error from clock offset and multipath propagation are presented and implemented on prototype hardware. Measurement results are presented including measurements taken in a coal mine. A large variety of applications could benefit from the pervasive deployment of inexpensive wireless sensor nodes, ranging from environmental monitoring to emergency detection and response. A significant challenge is to prolong the monitoring operation of sensor nodes by efficiently using their limited energy, bandwidth and computation resources. In this paper, we survey approximate data management techniques for sensor networks that exploit the tolerance of most applications to small inaccuracies in the reported data in order to extend the network lifetime","PeriodicalId":344061,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127594699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In model-based testing the test cases are derived from a model of the system under test. In our approach the model is an automaton model that is automatically extracted from the C-source code of the system under test. Beside random test data generation the test case generation uses formal methods, in detail model checking techniques. To find appropriate test cases we use the requirements defined in the system specification. To cover further execution paths we developed an additional, to our best knowledge, novel method based on special structural coverage criteria. We present preliminary results on the model extraction using a concrete industrial case study from the automotive domain","PeriodicalId":344061,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125696197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
