They completed a structured self-report questionnaire that collected information on their perceptions using a Likert scale with six options (strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree, and no answer). The response rate was 92% (n=197) and data were analyzed using SPSS (23).Nurses’ perceptions were positive and the same on whether ARVS and other medications were available; they were qualified and competent to provide ART services; they had adequate resources and equipment to provide ART services; they were satisfied with their jobs and the services they provided; and there was monitoring and evaluating system for the ART services. Nurses’ perceptions significantly differed and were mostly negative on whether they were adequately staffed to provide ART services; their organizational structures allowed for the provision of adequate and efficient services; ART services were accessible; and there was adequate and accurate documentation of the ART services they provided.As nurses are the main health care providers in Lesotho, their perceptions are important in improving service delivery. It is important to standardize ART services across the districts to ensure equitable accessibility in line with service demand.","PeriodicalId":344042,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Nursing Science","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117062049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: To enhance the reduction of adult inpatients' pain intensity of not more than mild pain during the COVID-19 pandemic nursing care settings. Methods: For this hospital-wide pain management quality improvement initiative, quarterly cross-sectional pain prevalence surveys were conducted between February 2020 and February 2021. For patients with pain scores less than 4/10 only section one of the survey questionnaires was used, while those with pain scores more than mild pain chart review was performed utilizing section two of the questionnaire. The 80/20 principle was adopted to identify the area that needs attention for specific improvement actions of each unit that achieved less than 80% of patients with pain intensity less than 4/10. Results: University Hospital A achieved an average of 92% throughout the four quarters, and 87.4% was for University Hospital B. Less than 20% of patients during the four quarters of the surveys had moderate to severe pain in both hospitals. Conclusions: Both two hospitals achieved the target goal of more than 80% pain prevalence scores of not more than mild pain during the four quarters of the studies. It is therefore strongly recommended that healthcare organizations put in place policies and procedures that assign the nurses the target goal of effective pain management.","PeriodicalId":344042,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Nursing Science","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127632312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Khan, Abdullah","doi":"10.11648/J.AJNS.20211005.12","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11648/J.AJNS.20211005.12","url":null,"abstract":"The acceptance rate of hemodialysis (HD) in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients has been increasing globally. Pakistan is a CKD high burden country with the increasing acceptance rate of HD. Unfortunately, there is dearth of published information regarding the rate, time to and factors associated with AVF maturation. The current retrospective cohort study was conducted with the aim to evaluate the rate, time to and factors associated with delayed AVF maturation. This study was conducted at the HD unit of Baluchistan Institute of Nephrology-Urology Quetta, Pakistan. The record of 120 HD patients who underwent native arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation was reviewed focusing on the associated factors and arteriovenous fistula maturity. A standardized data collection form was used to abstract patients’ socio-demographic and clinical data. Delayed AVF maturation was defined as AVF which got mature after six weeks of its creation. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 20) was used for data analysis. Categorical data was presented at frequencies and percentages whereas, continuous data was presented as mean ± standard deviations. Chi-square and Fisher exact tests wherever applicable were conducted to find association between patients’ socio-demographic and clinical characteristics and delayed AVF maturation. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Mean age and body mass index of the study participants were respectively 43.20 ±15.184 years and 20.14 ± 4.37 kg/m2. Majority of them were males (53.3%), belonged the age group 31-45 years (42.5%), rural residents (62.5%) and non-smokers (65.8%). A total of 93.3% patients were suffering from hypertension and 6.7% suffered from diabetes mellitus. Majority of the study participants had no family history of CKD (81.7%) and baseline visit of dialysis they had CKD duration of 2-5 years (47.5%). The mean time to AVF maturation in the current cohort was 41.9 ± 8.5 days. A total of 91.7% patients achieved the early maturation of AVF. No factor had statistical significant association with delayed AVF maturation. The rate of AVF maturation in the current cohort is comparatively high than reported in the published literature. Being a single centre study with retrospective design its results cannot be generalized. In the current study, 91.5% of the patients achieved early maturation of AVF. The rate of early maturation in the current cohort was comparatively higher than that reported in the previously published literature. In this retrospective study, we didn’t find out any factor which had significant association with time to AVF maturation.","PeriodicalId":344042,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Nursing Science","volume":"566 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133836478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
