The line tracking experiment is designed to validate the performance of the proposed model. The issue of stability of the time delay systems is presented and the critical delays curve is computed to indicate the stable region of the system in the delay parameter space. The comparison of different subject is presented to show the application of time delay models in the area of human motion modeling.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117220751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The porous silicon technology opened the door to several new novel applications, one of which is porous silicon being used as an energetic material. Several applications in the field of sensors and actuators are envisaged and the aim of this paper is to identify some of the optimal porous silicon and oxidiser parameters for high energy output. Of importance is the porosity and pore size of the porous silicon, as well as the type of oxidiser and filling of the pores with the oxidiser. The oxidiser NaClO4 was found to be the most energetic of the three oxidisers (Gd(NO 3 ) 3 , S and NaClO 4 ) investigated. Of more importance, it was found that for the most energetic reaction, the optimal pore size should be in the range 3 to 4 nm.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124030213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The same applies to poor households in Zambia where about 80% of its population depend on wood fuel in form of firewood and charcoal for cooking whilst candles and kerosene for lighting. Wood fuel is associated with the use of inefficient stoves which increase poverty, health and environmental impacts. With availability of abundant biomass and about 250 sunshine hours a month with Potential Energy Output of 5.5kWh/m2/day in Zambia, micro hybrid biomass — solar photovoltaic power plants are thought of to be the energy solution of Zambia. This solution will not only be an important part of household cooking and lighting, but also an important aspect of development of rural renewable energy and sustainable development in Zambia. This micro hybrid power plant will enable to generate electricity for lighting, refrigeration, entertainment and biogas for heating and cooking and generate significant socio-economic benefits. These are essentials in one's life because it will help to reduce on time spent collecting firewood, costs on purchasing charcoal and fossil fuel and poor people's living standards will be improved because they will have more time in farm productivity and children will have time for school. This paper also seeks to review the current energy situation in Zambia and what needs to be done in order to win people's confidence to welcome renewable energy solutions such as Micro Hybrid Biomass — Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120906981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is particularly important when conservation resources are scarce. However, traditional methods of biodiversity monitoring are labour intensive and cannot be applied in every ecosystem where there is need. In order to expand the application of biodiversity monitoring, there is need to automate this important task. In this work we present an application of audio diarization methods for biodiversity monitoring and show how these methods can be used to measure the abundance of indicator taxa in areas of interest. The use of audio recordings has the potential to reduce the time and effort spent in biodiversity monitoring. The experiments are performed on a freely available dataset of bird song recordings with the birds serving as indicator taxa in the ecosystem of interest. We are able to estimate the number of bird species in the recordings and this information can be used to estimate the species richness in an ecosystem.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125925698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fibre-optic gyro (FOG) will be used as the gyro of example, but with a small adjustment the model could be used for low-cost gyros as well. The error model will be used in the simulation of gyro measurements and for the compensation of the raw FOG measurements inside an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Such a unified error equation is needed as most FOG design specifications and development documentation define the system performance parameters in the format of the IEEE Std 952-1997 [1]. The correspondence between this format and the more widely published gyro error models is not obvious. This paper will attempt to bridge this gap.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128077385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Is it possible to penetrate a large amount of renewable energy? Is it possible to consume the surplus energy in a low demand situation? How is it possible to share the surplus energy seen from the consumer (green energy/cheap energy) and the distributor (avoid overload of grid), point of view. Is it possible for the consumer to control the energy even though there is no urgent need for energy? These questions could help make the electrical grid even smarter! Two correlated and non-identical Ricean fading channels are assumed for the relay to destination link, and maximal ratio combining (MRC) of the received signals is performed at the receiver. Communication between source and relay is also assumed to be over the Ricean fading channel. In order to determine the level of improvement introduced through the implementation of polarization diversity, performances of the considered system are compared with the standard DF relay system with single antenna terminals. The obtained results show that, using polarization diversity, the same BER (Bit Error Rate) values can be obtained with significantly lower SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), despite a certain level of correlation and power unbalance between the diversity branches. In that manner, compared to the system with no diversity, the total needed transmit power for achieving the same level of system performances is reduced, and thus more energy efficient communication is enabled.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124587332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though Cloud Computing is very popular, cloud security could delay its adoption. Security of the cloud must provide data confidentiality and protection of resources. The security of Cloud Computing extends the physical security which securing equipment constituting the Cloud architecture, data security must ensure that the service to the client, and network security which plays an important role in ensuring service and reliable protection against attacks and intrusions. At this level, security systems operating in traditional networks are also used in the new model to strengthen its network security. In this work, we propose a collaborative model consists of the Intrusion Detection and Prevention System functions based distributed IDS and IPS, with the use of a hybrid detection technique for addressing the problems of attacks encountered, specifically distributed attacks such as port scanning attacks and distributed internally established within a Cloud Computing environment by users entitled to access, including the integration of the Signature Apriori Algorithm for generating new attack signatures whose objective is to develop the functioning of our security system to be able to detect and block various types of attacks and intrusions.","PeriodicalId":343678,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Region 8 Conference AFRICON","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123521939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
