Aim of the study: To assess patients’ satisfaction with nursing care during hospitalization in a neurology department. Material and methods: A diagnostic survey method was conducted among 81 patients treated in the 5 th Military Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic in Cracow. The research tools included the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale and the author’s questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistica 10 software, and the significance level was adopted as p < 0.05. Results: The mean nursing experience score was 77.69, and the mean nursing satisfaction score was 83.67. A significant difference in nursing experience score according to the respondents’ education ( p = 0.03), work activity and study ( p = 0.00), and a difference in satisfaction score according to marital status ( p = 0.02) were confirmed. There is a correlation between experiences and satisfaction with nursing care and conditions on the ward and nurses’ behaviour. There was no confirmed relationship between nursing experience and satisfaction scores and gender, the age of the subjects, and the number of nurses on duty. Conclusions: Satisfaction with care depends on various factors that are directly or indirectly related to the nurse’s job. Knowing the patients’ satisfaction with nursing care is extremely important in order to take measures aimed at eliminating factors that reduce such satisfaction. A. Study design/planning • B. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive natural feeding of infants until they reach 6 months of age. Midwives provide women with lactation support before and after childbirth. Their care continues after discharge from hospital during home visits. Nowadays, most women experience breastfeeding difficulties, indicating the importance of the midwife’s role in lactation care. The role of midwives in antenatal care is to provide information on the physiology of lactation and to present the benefits of breastfeeding for the mother and child. An important element of antenatal education is the initial preparation of the pregnant woman for breastfeeding. The role of midwives after delivery is to ensure skin-to-skin contact of the newborn and its mother. They teach the correct way to latch the baby onto the breast and help to choose a proper position for feeding. The community midwife takes care of the women after discharge from hospital. They visit the mother and the baby in their home environment. During home visits, the midwife assesses the newborn’s and the mother’s health, the newborn’s physical development and weight gain, and provides lactation support. The midwife’s lactation advice is based on the following: medical interview, observation of the mother’s general and mental condition, breast examination, suckling assessment, and evaluation of the breastfeeding efficiency. The midwife provides lactation advice, taking into account the anatomical conditions in the structure of the mother’s breast and the child’s oral cavity.","PeriodicalId":34285,"journal":{"name":"Problemy Pielegniarstwa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70503892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The biological aspect focuses on groups particularly susceptible to infection, like the elderly, patients treated for severe somatic complaints, and carriers of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The psychological aspect relates to the negative impact of social isolation and of the information chaos associated with the pandemic. The group of people at risk of developing psychological problems consists of psychiatric patients, persons in quarantine, relatives of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19, carriers of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and socially lonely people. Hence, many people may experience episodic or chronic emotional disturbances. The social aspect draws attention to the negative psychological consequences of the gradually deteriorating economic situation of citizens and the cumulative multiple consequences of social isolation. The problem undertaken by the authors of the article was to recognize the psychological consequences of the first weeks of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in the human population. The article is of an overview nature. The literature used in the article came from the database MEDLINE between 1 January and 30 June 2020. The articles were obtained using the key words: SARS-CoV-2, mental health, and pandemics. The method of narrative analysis was used. This study combines the above-mentioned 3 aspects, showing the presumed long-term psychological consequences of a pandemic for the functioning of the individuals and society. The most important psychological consequences of a pandemic are explained, including the issue of high-risk groups. Probable risk factors for emotional disorders and psychological problems are described.","PeriodicalId":34285,"journal":{"name":"Problemy Pielegniarstwa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70503958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, especially during the pandemic, the appropriate motivation for candidates to choose the profession of nurse is extremely important due to the high social expectations. Aim of the study: To present the motives that determined the choice of the profession of nurse among people undertaking studies. Material and methods: The research was conducted on a group of 321 nursing students at first- and second-degree studies in two Polish universities. Results: The research shows that the largest group, i.e. 40.5%, came from rural areas. As the most common reason for choosing that field of study, respondents indicated having an interest in the profession, and a willingness to help others and expand their knowledge (57.9%). 75% of respondents stated that the COVID-19 pandemic makes it easier to find a job. Conclusions: The main motive for choosing the profession of nurse is having an interest in the profession and a desire to help others regardless of the pandemic. A factor that often motivated students to choose the profession is the loved ones practicing the profession of nurse. In the surveyed group of nursing students, the COVID-19 pandemic did not directly affect the choice of the field of study (profession). Positive communication in the media about the enormous importance of nurses’ professional activity for society is the basic element building interest in this profession among teenagers.","PeriodicalId":34285,"journal":{"name":"Problemy Pielegniarstwa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70504294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
