As the panel title suggests, the discussions revolve around the human aspects of HCI. As such, topics of discussion include ethics, legal issues, diversity and inclusion, and decolonizing perspectives, among others. Both our panelists come from different academic backgrounds, covering the main themes: technology and society.","PeriodicalId":342821,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121196540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the nature of biometric inputs can lead to privacy and security concerns. Thus, evaluating the user perspective and finding the balance between ease of use, security, and privacy is imperative. To this aid, we conducted a survey-based study collecting data from 38 university students to see how prevalent these security and usability issues were in the everyday usage of personal devices. The survey assessed the user’s technical experience and then asked general device security questions and those specific to the security, privacy, and usability of biometric authentication if they had ever used it. Our results showed that usability is not a significant problem for most users in a university setting and that ease of use is the primary motivator for utilizing this authentication method; however, some users expressed concerns about losing access to the accounts or having incorrect access to their accounts. Thus, we propose design alterations and security measures to address these issues and the concerns about biometric authentication’s security implications.","PeriodicalId":342821,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129321511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the preliminary phase of the study, we conducted need assessment activities which included a diary study, interviews, and a workshop that led to the development of user personas. Next, we developed system personas and crafted dialogues to manifest the personas. Then, we incorporated the dialogues into Voice User Interface (VUI) prototypes. We developed three VUI prototypes and conducted a validation workshop. We conclude the paper by discussing initial findings and implications for designing preventive stress-care. We hope to inspire the research community to explore novel approaches to designing technological interventions for preventative stress care using VUIs.","PeriodicalId":342821,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115170546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People living with one or more disabilities encounter difficulties in their daily life when carrying out activities that may be simple for other people, such as walking or communicating, not to mention using technology that was not intended for them. In this sense, there is a need to understand these users’ needs in order to better design technology. This panel aims to create a space for conversation to understand the experiences of people with physical and perceptual limitations. It is necessary to reflect on the challenges they face as users of technology - sometimes assistive tech -, and how they cope in their daily lives.","PeriodicalId":342821,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133764334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem becomes harder for ADHD individuals since it is easier to postpone or forget activities and keep track of multiple activities at the same time. To maximize the ADL completion rate, while minimizing the number of intrusive stimuli, in this research we proposed SmarTasko, an activity-tracking wearable system focused on simplifying the interaction between the user and the device, making ADL tracking less obtrusive and habit forming. We interviewed 10 individuals, among neurotypical and ADHD individuals, to learn about the challenges when dealing with multiple short and spontaneous activities at the same time. We proposed two contributions from this research, a set of five design principles we have learned from our user-centered study, and the design of SmarTasko.","PeriodicalId":342821,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th Mexican International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129442902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
