The morphological characterization was performed through optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the degree of swelling in water was evaluated and the presence of nitric oxide was determined spectrophotometrically by the GRIESS method. The gels were found to have spherical morphology and were able to release 98 mmol of nitric oxide per liter per gram.
