I still believe so and am delighted to see in the literature and at many conferences that others apparently agree. So what's new? On a positive note, I believe that the final chapter of Folk Linguistics has pointed and continues to point the way to a great deal of as yet unexplored potential — the careful consideration of the underlying presuppositions and beliefs which lie behind the discourses and actions that constitute the primary data of folk linguistics. What are the folk theories of language held by real people, and how can we extract them from their discourses and actions? In Folk Linguistics several approaches to acquiring and interpreting relevant data were catalogued, but I am all too aware, as Niedzielski and I confess in the last chapter of that work, that much of what we did could be called \"ostensive discourse analysis.\" We acquired the discourses of real people about language, transcribed them, held them up to the view of the reader, and said what we thought they meant and how they contrasted and/or converged with the belief(s) of \"real linguists.\" Except for some of the operational tasks which we assigned respondents, that procedure was our general plan, and I am not unhappy with it. I think the data reported in Folk Linguistics is still the","PeriodicalId":34111,"journal":{"name":"Malbryting","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47584380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Det er særlig to sider ved skarre-/r/ Torp tar opp, 1) opphavet til skarre-/r/ i Europa, nærmere bestemt Paris-området, 2) årsaken til at skarre-/r/ ikke har spredt seg til Østlandet og ikke ser ut til å spre seg dit heller. Mht. det første temaet legger Torp fram en ny, eller rettere sagt en glemt eller oversett hypotese som virker meget overbevisende, og iallfall langt bedre enn den gjengse myten om kongen med talefeil. Mht. det andre temaet legger han fram en hypotese han har lagt fram før, bl.a. i Torp 1994 og 2001, nemlig at årsaken til at skarre-/r/ ikke har slått gjennom på Østlandet, er retrofleksene, som ifølge Torp ikke \"går\" sammen med skarre-/r/. Det er en spenstig hypotese, men ikke desto mindre tror jeg den er gal, og det er særlig den jeg vil presentere noen motforestillinger mot her. Men jeg har også noen kommentarer til et mindre punkt i Torps artikkel, nemlig skarring i Oslo.","PeriodicalId":34111,"journal":{"name":"Malbryting","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71317244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Denne perspektivforskyvinga kan vi og sjå att i talemålsgranskinga med framveksten av m.a. nettverksanalysar, diskursanalysar og konversasjonsanalysar. Der er komen ei sterkare fokusering på individnivået og på mangfaldet av varietetar, likeins på dei ulike rammefaktorane for språkval (som nettverk, kontekst og typeog rolleforventingar, jf. Hudson 1996: 228f). Biletet av talemålssituasjonen og talemålsutviklinga er dermed vorte meir fragmentert, og har gjort det vanskelegare å halde oppe myten om den einskaplege dialekten, den einskaplege sosiolekten og det einskaplege standardspråket. Fragmentering og individualisering er merkelappar på meir djupareliggjande tendensar ved utviklinga i urbane, vestlege samfunn kring tusenårsskiftet. Tanken er at individet i større grad er fristilt frå gamle tradisjonar og gamle kollektive band som nasjonen, den sosiale klassen, bygda, familien, grannelaget etc. Den geografiske og sosiale mobiliteten fører til meir individuelle","PeriodicalId":34111,"journal":{"name":"Malbryting","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71317337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
