Waveforms of current consumed by appliances vary according to their configurations and activity. We define feature parameters for detecting the status of appliances. A current detector, microcomputer and transmitter are equipped in a power outlet in order to measure consumed current, calculate the feature parameters, and transmit the results to a home server. Feature parameters of appliances in the home are learned and stored in a home server in advance. The home server compares the feature parameters of known appliances with the received feature parameters to detect an appliance's model and activity. ACIS is a decentralized architecture that forms a community of individual end-users (community members) having the same interests and demands in somewhere, at specified time. It allows the community members to mutually cooperate and share information without loading up any single node excessively. In this paper, an efficient autonomous decentralized community construction technique is proposed to reduce: the communication delays among members with take into consideration the latency among them and the required time to join/leave. This technology organizes the community members into a hierarchy of sub-communities. This paper illustrates the step-step construction technique and the membership management operations for the proposed hierarchical community structure. If a JSP page is split into fragments according to the update frequency of each portion of the Web page obtained by executing the JSP page, all of the split JSP fragments do not need to be executed again when only a single cached part of a Web page expires. In addition, the fragments of a JSP page can be reused by other JSP pages. In both cases, the execution results of all of the JSP fragments split from the JSP page must be the same as from the JSP page before it was split. In this paper, we propose JSP splitting, which is a method of splitting a JSP page into fragments maintaining the data and control dependences existing in the original JSP page. JSP splitting automatically detects the portions needed to maintain the data and control dependences of a JSP page for the portions that developers want to split from the JSP page. We implemented JSP splitting with a GUI tool, and confirmed that the split JSP fragments were executed in the same as the way as the JSP page before the split. Experimental results show that the response time to access a Web page can be reduced by splitting a JSP page into fragments and setting different caching periods for the Web page fragments obtained by executing the JSP fragments.","PeriodicalId":340968,"journal":{"name":"2004 International Symposium on Applications and the Internet. However, as the field matures, empirical evaluations of techniques and systems are more commonly used and deployment issues like the management of a MAS become increasingly important. We propose a change-discovery algorithm (CDA) for any two HTML/XML documents, each of which is hierarchically structured and represented as an ordered tree. The novelties of CDA include (i) the usage of weighted sequence difference to determine the edit script with the anticipated minimal operational cost and (ii) the generation of the minimal contextual differences of branches in the two given trees. Differed from existing change-detection approaches that adopt node-to-node comparisons, CDA adopts branch-to-branch comparisons. Using CDA, generated edit scripts can be processed in any order to yield the same results, which enhances parallelism. CDA also guarantees lossless reversal transformation. Considerable research efforts have gone into designing many excellent periodic broadcast protocols in terms of minimizing the server network bandwidth and the client resources. However, there are only a few implementations of periodic broadcast protocols available. This is probably because little has been documented on how the memory and disk bandwidth resources of a periodic broadcast server should be allocated. In this paper, we present a generalized periodic broadcast server (GPBS) model that supports any periodic broadcast protocol. Based on this model, we formulate and solve a new optimization problem whose solution provides insights into the server s memory and disk resources allocation. We also discuss our prototype implementation of GPBS. In this paper, we present a query clustering method based on the agglomerative clustering algorithm. We first present an overview of the agglomerative clustering algorithm proposed by Beeferman and Berger (2000). We point out a weakness of the method caused by noisy user clicks and propose an improved clustering algorithm. The service availability changes when the user migrates and causes network disconnection and reconnection. This mechanism supports continuous use of service by correctly suspending upon disconnection, and resuming on re-connection. The mechanism also supports recovery in case of failure to suspend. While disconnected, the mechanism supports disconnected operation by both the user and the service. Through this mechanism, the user can utilize the services around him effectively while migrating. We propose adaptive service disconnect/reconnect support (ASDS) which detects the network disconnection and re-connection, by monitoring the wireless LAN's signal noise ratio. ASDS also predicts network disconnections through changes in SNR, and suspends if necessary ASDS can suspend and resume with the appropriate timing. One assumed reason is that participants cannot be aware of \"who is focusing on whom\". We introduce virtual space to a multi-party conference system, allocating avatars in a space. We also introduce intuitive input interface using motion processor in order to construct a multi-party conference system, which the user can use without being aware of it. A new displaying method is essential for this system, and we introduce a way by which a user can obtain the feedback of which user he/she is focusing on. We introduce e-MulCS as the system that fulfils these proposals.
