Methods & Materials This study was a pre-and post-interventional clinical trial. The population of the study was hemodialysis patients with chronic renal failure. In the beginning of the study, and three months after removal of losartan, the patients’ hemoglobin changes were compared. Findings Hemoglobin was significantly increased at the end of the study in all patients (from 10.90±1.66 at the beginning of the study to 11.37±1.42g/dl at the end of 3 months, P=0.046). No significant changes were seen in the hemoglobin level before and after intervention between patients according age, sex, and duration of the disease. Conclusion There was a significant increase in hemoglobin level at the end of study after losartan discontinuation. But this increase did not have a significant relationship with patient’s age, sex as well as the duration of the disease.","PeriodicalId":340278,"journal":{"name":"Quarterly of the Horizon of Medical Sciences","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133397062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have suggested the implementation of a cardiac rehabilitation program after surgery required to achieve this goal. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of cardiac rehabilitation on quality of life in post-surgery patients. Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental which was conducted in 2012, 70 patients (35 patients in experimental group and 35 patients in control group) undergoing CABGs in Shahid Rajaei Heart Center of Tehran City were selected by achievable sampling method. The experimental group received 12 sessions of cardiac rehabilitation program according to their health condition. The control group was not participating in the rehabilitation program. The qualities of life of patients of both groups were measured by Ferrans & Powers Questionnaire of quality of life before and after the cardiac rehabilitation program. Data were analyzed in SPSS 16 software by Paired T, independent T and linear regression tests. Findings: The experimental and the control group were matched according to age and sex. There was no significant difference between two groups before intervention in the quality of life score. After intervention, the quality of life score were increased in both the experimental (19.99±1.11) and the control groups (18.49±1.48), respectively (p<0.001). Conclusion: Participation in cardiac rehabilitation program is effective in promotion of quality of life in CABG patients.","PeriodicalId":340278,"journal":{"name":"Quarterly of the Horizon of Medical Sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128572091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on resilience, meaning in life, and family functioning in the caregivers of patients with schizophrenia. Methods & Materials This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest and follow-up design and a control group. The study sample included 30 members of schizophrenia patients’ families, referring to 2 neurological and psychological rehabilitation centers in Isfahan Province, Iran. By the convenience sampling method, the experimental group received 8 ACT sessions weekly; however, the control group received no treatment. Both groups were assessed in three phases; pretest, posttest, and one-month follow-up. The assessment tools consisted of Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Stagger Meaning in Life Questionnaire, and McMaster Family Functioning Scale. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS by repeated-measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Findings The collected results indicated the significant difference of posttest and follow-up phases in terms of meaning in life and family functioning scores between the control and experimental groups (P<0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in posttest resilience scores (P<0.05); however, there was no significant difference in the follow-up phase in this respect. Conclusion The collected results suggested that ACT was effective on the meaning of life, family functioning, and resiliency; thus, it could improve such variables in the caregivers of patients with schizophrenia.","PeriodicalId":340278,"journal":{"name":"Quarterly of the Horizon of Medical Sciences","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116459887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
