The impact of CAP became more evident in Upper Egypt societies and has placed a substantial burden on already overburdened health and community services. Data on how CAP risk factors interact would be of great value and it could be addressed through preventive programs implemented to serve under-five children. Objective: This study identified the determinants for CAP in under-five children admitted to Aswan University Hospital. Method: A hospital-based, case-control study involving cases of pneumonia among children aged 2–59 months was conducted from August 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020 at Aswan University Hospital, Egypt. The controls consisted of children admitted to the outpatient clinic in the same hospital for elective surgery. Children with any comorbidities were excluded. A multivariable regression analysis was performed including variables that were significant at p <0.05 in the bivariate analysis. Results: The study evaluated 160 children in the case group and 160 children in the control group. Underweight (OR=17.18, 95% CI=4.35-37.64), current parental smoking (OR=9.54, 95% CI=2.80-32.41), mothers' knowledge score about CAP (moderate knowledge OR= 2.23, 95% CI=1.25-9.46, poor knowledge OR=6.11, 95% CI=1.46-8.08) and when the distance to the nearest health center > 5 kilometers (OR=4.70, 95% CI=1.316.24) were the significant predictors for CAP. Conclusion: Higher risk for progressing community-acquired pneumonia is associated with underweight, current parental smoking, poor score knowledge of mothers regarding CAP, and being at a distance > 5 kilometers from the home to the closest health center.","PeriodicalId":339981,"journal":{"name":"The Egyptian Journal of Community Medicine","volume":"323 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133339461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most studies concluded that a large proportion of infants are not exclusively breastfed. Objectives: to estimate duration of EBF using Kaplan-Meier analysis and to find out the independent factors associated with early cessation of EBF. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on 884 motherinfant pairs during vaccination at age of six months in Mansoura District, Egypt. Data collected are: sociodemographic characteristics of mothers, infants their families, antenatal, natal and postnatal data. Kaplan Meier estimator were used to produce valid estimates of EBF duration and the Cox’s proportional hazards model was fitted to identify risks of early EBF discontinuation. Results: At six months 14.8% of infants are still exclusively breastfed. The median period of EBF was 4.0 months. The independent risk factors of EBF discontinuation are maternal work (Adjusted Hazard Ratio (AHR)=1.6, Confidence Interval (CI)=1.3-1.9), preterm births AHR=1.4, CI=1.1-1.1), urban residence (AHR=1.3, CI=1.1-1.5) and being female infant (AHR=1.2, CI=1.1-1.4). Objectives: This study aims to determine the risk of emotional/behavioral problems among children and their associations with stressors and positive changes during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Methods: A cross-sectional study using an online survey was carried out in four Egyptian governorates from 20 July to 10 August 2020. The Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was used to collect data from parents of children aging 4-17 years about the risk of having symptoms of emotional/behavioral problems among their children during the last 6 months. Results: Findings revealed that among 632 studied children, 274 (43.4%) were at risk of having emotional/behavioral problems (abnormal total difficulties score). Emotional symptoms and conduct problems were the most common problems (found in 39.1% and 39.4% respectively) followed by peer problems, hyperactivity, and prosocial behavior problems. High risk of emotional/behavioral problems was significantly associated with child age < 12 years, male gender, history of emotional or neurodevelopmental disorder, lack of online school learning, low father educational level, missing family/child occasions, being angry/afraid of infection, reduced family closeness, and lack of greatefulness for what they have. Conclusion: Children and adolescents face a high risk of emotional/behavioral problems during the COVID-19 lockdown. Parents can support their children’s socioemotional well-being during lockdown periods by increasing closeness with family members, keeping connections with relatives/friends, sharing facts to minimize anger/fear, and engaging in home-schooling.","PeriodicalId":339981,"journal":{"name":"The Egyptian Journal of Community Medicine","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122761250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fatigue is one of the most common recognized complaints associated with Coronavirus infection and it has lasted for a variable period after recovery. Objective: To assess the frequency of fatigue post-COVID-19 and whether the period after full recovery and the duration of symptoms affects the severity of fatigue. Method: The current study is a cross-sectional survey. Google form was constructed to build online questionnaires. It included sociodemographic data and the 10 questions of the Fatigue Assessment Scale. Participants were also asked about the duration of symptoms and recovery time. Results: The study enrolled 215 participants. The mean age of the participants was 38.4 ± 12.6 years, 150 females (69.8%) and 65 males (30.2%). The most presenting symptom was bony ache (74.0%). The mean fatigue score was 36.0 and ranged from (12-50). There was no significant association between sociodemographic data items and the fatigue assessment scale. A statistically significant negative association was found between the time after COVID-19 recovery and the Fatigue Assessment Scale. However, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the duration of symptoms and the Fatigue Assessment Scale. Conclusion: Post-COVID-19 fatigue has been common after recovery from the novel coronavirus infection. The sociodemographic variables did not affect the fatigue score. Prolonged fatigue was associated with a longer duration of symptoms; however, it decreases over time after recovery.","PeriodicalId":339981,"journal":{"name":"The Egyptian Journal of Community Medicine","volume":"9 31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134007080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
