In this framework, the evolution of the configuration of a single fiber in a simple shear flow at low Reynolds number was numerically analyzed on the basis of an 'immersed boundary method' developed by Peskin. In the computations fibers with force-free configuration of being straight were used. While deformation of a fiber is fundamentally three-dimensional, stretching/compression and bending deformations in the plane of flow were simply assumed.In Part 2 of the series of papers, the effects of fluid viscosity and shear rate on the evolution of the configuration of a single fiber and flow kinematics were described. The behavior of a fiber becomes more complex as the fluid viscosity increases. Furthermore, it was confirmed that a flow-induced bending parameter, which is a function of fiber length, bending stiffness, fluid viscosity and shear rate, is a useful dimensionless parameter for classification of rotation of an elastic fiber, such as rigid rotation, springy rotation, S-turn, snake turn and complex rotation.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126009759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerical simulations of the viscoelastic flow in branching channels were carried out by the stream-upwind finite element method. The Gie sekus model with a single relaxation time was used for a constitutive equation. The Bird carreau model which was one of generalized Newtonian models was also used in order to separate the contribution of elasticity. The shear-thinning property in viscosity causes the in crease in the ratio of the flow rate in the wider slit to the total flow rate with increasing flow rate. Furthermore, the stretch-thickening property in elongational viscosity promotes the ten dency. Therefore, for viscoelastic fluids, both the shear viscosity and the elongational viscos ity affect the flow rate balance.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115950560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These properties are degraded when the polymer molecules near the weld-line highly orient owing to the elongational flow and the orientation is fixed by solidification of the polymer melts before it returns to a random condition. In the present paper, the viscoelastic welding flow was numerically calculated for analyzing the molecular orientation in the weld-line region. The numerical simulation of the flow around a spider supporting a mandrel was carried out using the single-mode Giesekus model as a constitutive equation. The effects of the spider shape and viscoelastic properties of polymer melts on the anisotropy of the molecular orientation at the weld-line were analyzed. The calculation was carried out for three spider shapes, i.e. the spider-rear-end-angleθ2=30°, 45°, and 60°, The numerical results showed a simple modification of θ2suppressed the elongational rate, the stress, and the maximum value of the degree of the molecular orientation near the spider rear end, where the weld-line occurred. When the Weissenberg number is large and the influence of shear-thinning is great, the maximum value of the elongational rate was sensitive to θ2Especially at large Weissenberg number (=2.4), the elongational stress was reduced more effectively using the spider of the case that θ2=60°.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127980650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following conclusions were obtained. At the maximum angle in one-time swinging motion, fabrics were subjected to the largest acceleration and the projected area changed remarkably. It was concluded that the change of the projected area characterized dynamic drapeability of fabrics in swinging motion. Dynamic drape coefficient Dd was defined as a parameter of the dynamic drapeability, and it maintained high accuracy and reproducibility. Dd and mechanical parameters of bending and shearing properties of fabrics were studied precisely and the regression equations were derived from those mechanical parameters. It was shown clearly that Dd was controlled firstly by fabric weight, secondly by shearing property and bending property.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"290 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115914609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have attempted a separation of the commercial Trichoderma reeseicellulase by means of chromatography to enable us to measure enzymatic characteristics. Cellulosic fibers such as cotton, Tencel and viscose rayon and so on were used as the substrate for treatment by Trichoderma reeseicellulase to evaluate physical properties. Results from this work include : 1) Trichoderma reeseicellulase is rich in endocellulase after separation by chromatography.2) Characteristic changes of cellulosic fibers after enzyme treatment were measured, including weight loss and reducing sugar with increasing incubation time. However, crystalline structure of cellulosic fibers has not changed after treatment. Degree of polymerization and that of crystallinity of cellulosic fibers except Tencel have changed slightly.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128109664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a swimsuit was worn, blood pressure increased and heart rate decreased in a standing posture, furthermore, oxygen intake and ventilation decreased during exercise. From these results, we concluded that when the clothing pressure exerted on a trunk was rather low: lower than 1.0 kPa, venous pump action was promoted and work efficiency became higher. However, when the clothing pressure exerted on a shoulder and inguinal region was very high, skin blood flow to peripheral parts (foot) was suppressed and the recovery of blood pressure after exercise was delayed.","PeriodicalId":339262,"journal":{"name":"Sen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (journal of The Textile Machinery Society of Japan)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116726393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
