This study aimed to investigate drug resistance-associated mutations in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integrase gene caused by the drug pressure of reverse transcriptase inhibitors (RTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs). Material and methods: For this purpose, RNA of 50 HIV-infected patients (25 drug-naïve patients and 25 patients under antiretroviral therapy [INI naive]) was extracted and one step RT-nested PCR was carried out on HIV integrase (IN). Then, gene sequences were analyzed to determine sub-types and antiretroviral resistance-associated mutations (RAMs). Results: Phylogenetic analysis revealed that recombinant sub-type CRF35-AD was the most prevalent in all patients (87.2%), followed by A1 sub-type (12.8%). Among the 25 ART-experienced patients, two mutations (N155I, G163R) associated with resistance to integrase inhibitors (INI) were found. Among the 25 naïve patients, several polymorphisms were observed, which was also lower in this group than in the ART group. Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that the integrase mutations can be caused by the effect of selective pressure induced by antiviral agents, such as RTIs and PIs. Therefore, examination of the integrase drug resistance mutations is recommended before starting treatment in Iran.","PeriodicalId":338023,"journal":{"name":"HIV & AIDS Review","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114802912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Possibility of being infected by the virus in women is as twice large compared to their male counterparts. Diagnosis of HIV disease could be a traumatic event leading to the onset and development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which itself has many negative consequences. Hence, the aim of this study was to examine the prevalence and factors associated with PTSD in HIV patients to improve their care. Material and methods: This study was a cross-sectional study carried out in AIDS Research Center, Clinic and Gynecology Ward, Imam Khomeini Hospital, during 2018-2019. Participants were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using two questionnaires, including Mississippi scale and demographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: In this research, the mean score of PTSD in HIV-positive women was 100.45 (± 21.86), with 44.5% (134 individuals) suffering from PTSD. Also, death of a family member, infertility history, housing status, history of violence, type and number of delivery, children’s affection, education level, and history of imprisonment had the most significant association in HIV-positive women at 95% confidence level. Conclusions: The results of this study highlighted the need to prioritize psychological (death of a family member and history of violence), economic and social (housing status), and medical needs (infertility history, childbirth, and status of children’s HIV infection) of HIV-positive women who are experiencing various factors causing PTSD.","PeriodicalId":338023,"journal":{"name":"HIV & AIDS Review","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126393226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limited information on HIV viral suppression and its’ associated factors exists in Tanzania since the adoption of this inter-vention at a public health level. The aim of the present study was to determine HIV viral suppression rate and assess its’ associated factors among patients attending Temeke Regional Referral Hospital care and treatment clinic after twelve months of using antiretroviral therapy. Material and methods: Hospital-based cross-sectional study was performed to assess factors associated with HIV viral suppression. Viral load suppression was defined as HIV-RNA below 50 copies/ml, and late presentation was defined in a person who presented to care and treatment facility with WHO HIV clinical stage III or IV and/or baseline CD4+ T lymphocyte count of less than 350 cells/µl. Results: Among the 188 participants who were interviewed, a total of 149 (79.3%) achieved viral suppression after one year of using ART. Late presentation to health facility (OR = 3.4; 95% CI: 1.6-7.4; p < 0.01) was independently associated with inability to achieve viral suppression at 12 months. Conclusions: HIV testing services should be strengthened in order to achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 target through early detection of HIV disease.","PeriodicalId":338023,"journal":{"name":"HIV & AIDS Review","volume":"242 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132271718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
