Prior research suggests that age differences are very variable; HIV was higher among older FSWs. This study compares HIV, syphilis, and risk behaviours among younger and older FSWs of Nepal. Material and methods: We conducted secondary analysis of Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance (IBBS) surveys among FSWs from 2004 to 2016. Bivariate analysis using χ2 tests and multi variate logistic regression models were used to assess differences of HIV, syphilis, and risk behaviours among younger and older FSWs. Results: The study comprised 17.6% FSWs aged 35 years or older. HIV prevalence was 1.7% for the entire group of FSWs, with 2.3% among older FSWs and 1.5% among younger FSWs. The older FSWs were married and separated, had lower education levels, had longer duration of sex work, worked on the streets, and had inconsistent condom used with clients than younger FSWs (p < 0.05). Younger FSWs were also at high risk because of a higher number of sexual partners and working days, pervasive alcohol consumption, and use of drugs (p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis revealed that older FSWs were more street-based (aOR = 2.1, 95% CI = 1.8-2.4), have inconsistent condom use with clients (aOR = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.4-2.1) and had higher syphilis rates (aOR = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.3-2.5) than younger FSWs. Conclusions: Older FSWs practice higher risk behaviour and have higher syphilis prevalence. HIV and STI prevention interventions among targeting FSWs should consider risks and vulnerability of older FSWs. PLWH experiences regarding the transition from triple pill therapy to FDC in antiretroviral therapy (ART) remain unknown. Material and methods: This study explores and describes the experiences of PLWH regarding migration from triple pill therapy to FDC. The study was conducted in Community Health Centres (CHC) in Ngaka Modiri Molema District in the North West province, South Africa. A qualitative exploratory descriptive design was used and the target population comprised all PLWH who have been on ART for more than a year on the triple pill and are currently on FDC. A purposive sampling technique was used and the sample size was determined by data saturation ( n = 15). Data collection was done using unstructured interviews, using audiotapes and field notes. Data analysis was done using ATLAS.ti and followed the notice-collect-think (NCT) analysis. Results: Results were discussed based on three themes: challenges experienced through the triple pill, factors influencing intake of FDC and other factors that negatively influence the triple pill and FDC intake. Conclusions: These findings provide insight into why patients do not adhere to ART. A focus on treatment education would promote knowledge among patients, increase responsibility, and enhance adherence. Support groups and treatment buddies must be emphasized in the provision of support for clients, even if community health workers can be involved.","PeriodicalId":338023,"journal":{"name":"HIV & AIDS Review","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125867432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate social support, self-efficacy, and factors affecting adherence to medication in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Material and methods: This descriptive co-relational study was performed among HIV/AIDS individuals over the age of 18 years, who were referred to the Behavioral Diseases Counseling Center in Kerman City, Iran, in 2017. In this regard, 117 patients were selected by census method and categorized into intervention and control groups. Later, we used AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) questionnaire to collect required data, and then before and 3 months after the intervention to assess medication adherence. The intervention was included eight 60-90 minutes training sessions, over the course of 14 weeks, based on Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model. Results: The main reasons for ART non-adherence were forgetfulness in taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) (17.9%), away from home, depression (9.4%), and transportation problems (8.5%). Signifi cant relationship was observed after the intervention based on IMB model with self-efficacy (0.000) and social support (0.010). Conclusions: The IMB model can be effective in promoting self-efficacy and social support in HIV patients. However, the information model was ineffective for major problems that had reduced adherence to medication regimen, such as forgetting to take medications, depression, and transportation issues.","PeriodicalId":338023,"journal":{"name":"HIV & AIDS Review","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132248997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, HPV prevention is especially important in HIV-positive individuals. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of genital warts and condom use in sexually active individuals with HIV/AIDS treated in the Behavioral Counseling Center of Shiraz. Material and methods: 224 HIV-positive subjects (112 males and 112 females) were included in this cross-sectional study, selected from database of the Behavioral Counseling Center of Shiraz, with simple random sampling. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, interviews, and medical records. Results: Genital warts were reported only in 13.4% of women and 17.0% of men, and the percentage of condom use among women and men was 65.2% and 74.1%, respectively. Moreover, 68.8% of men and 87.5% of women presented first stage of HIV infection. Conclusions: According to the results, condoms were the most commonly used form of contraception in women and men with HIV/AIDS, and genital warts were reported only in 13.4% of women and 17% of men, few of whom did not use any contraception. Due to high percentage of genital warts among participants, there is a need to encourage these patients to use condoms due their protective effects and reduction of cervical and penile lesions. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of genital warts and condom use in sexually active people with HIV/ AIDS treated in the High-Risk Behavioral Center of Shiraz.
