Pruning and organic fertilizers were assessed as treatments to increase the bean yield in an old cacao crop in Cundinamarca. The positive effects of organic fertilizer application and pruning on the pod morphometry and bean yield were established. The application of organic fertilizers with pruning, in general, increased the length and circumference of cacao pods. A negative correlation (R=-0.618) was found among the relative chlorophyll contents in leaves at the end of the harvest period and with the number of pods per tree. A positive correlation (R=0.748) was obtained between the fresh weight of pods and the dry weight of beans. No correlation was established between the relative chlorophyll contents in leaves and the bean dry weight. Pruning plus organic fertilization increased the total dry weight of beans per tree at almost 15 %, which makes pruning with organic fertilizer application the best tool for increasing yield in organic cacao production in old plantations in Cundinamarca.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125299204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the study area, effects on the environment, illegal hunting, mining, deforestation, burning and contamination by residues were observed. Therefore, it was important to know the level of environmental awareness of the people involved in these programs. In addition, this type of study is very important in the country since it contributes to research on the level of environmental awareness, so it is relevant to inquire about this aspect. A sample of 152 inhabitants was taken from the 15 communities in the Manso transfer area, Caldas-Colombia, to which face-to-face surveys were applied. For statistical analysis, independence tests and Multiple Correspondence Analysis were used. Within the affective attributes, it was possible to identify an association between land ownership, permanence in the area and belonging to different organizations of an associative nature with an increase in the indicator used to demonstrate environmental awareness. The study carried out exposes the treatment of empirical information that accounts for the progress made in Environmental Education programs carried out among residents of rural areas, as well as its relationship with certain pro-environmental behaviors.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126777475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the pest species, the leafminers of Lepidoptera are reported, which the main characteristic is that they develop and feed inside the leaves. The damage they cause happens mainly when the population of their natural enemies is affected. The first record of leafminers in Colombia was done from samples collected in one orchard of avocado cv. Hass in Villa Maria, Caldas where a high infestation outbreak happened as a consequence of the pesticide application following calendar spraying to prevent the attack of pests like red spider mites and thrips. The objective of this paper is to present the status of leafminer pest of avocado leaves in Colombia, providing its identification, description of the serpentine and blotch damage, and proposing recommendations for its management. This will inform the scientific community and farmers about the presence of this pest in avocado crop regions in Colombia, contributing to minimize damaging events like the aforementioned.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125305198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the uncontrolled fertigation volume can cause an excess of leachates with detrimental effects on the environment. The Fertigation in carnation production in the Bogotá savanna is done empirically, therefore, it is essential to adjust the fertigation volume to the needs of the crop to avoid the mentioned problems. For this reason, the effect of the control of the fertigation volume with weighting lysimeters was evaluated in comparison with the management of traditional fertigation in the performance of the spray carnation plants sown in substrate under greenhouse conditions. For the evaluation, an experimental design was carried out in complete randomized blocks with a lysimeter crop system (LCS) and a traditional crop system without a lysimeter (WLS) as treatments. Irrigation volume, whole plant nutritional content in five phenological stages, pH, primary and secondary (Ca - Mg) nutrients in the substrate, and drainage solution were the variables evaluated. The LCS generates saving in the use of fertigation compared with WLS. Differences were found in the continuum plant - substrate - leached in N, K, Mg, as well as in the pH of the substrate. The LCS treatment was more efficient by generating greater dry mass accumulation, with the use of less water and nutrients without affecting the yield or quality.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122770016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the yields obtained do not exceed 600 kg ha -1 , due to the unknown of the effect of cultural methods on the species, as in the different cultivars. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of different spacing and hydrogel on vegetative and reproductive characteristics of cowpea beans, cultivar Caupicor 50 in the department of Sucre of the Caribbean region of Colombia. A split-plot design was used, with three replications (blocks). Two distances between rows: 60 and 80 cm in the main plot, three spaces between plants: 20, 30, and 40 cm in the subplot, and hydrogel: 0 and 5 g / plant in the sub-sub plot were combined. The variables evaluated were: plant height, leaf area, leaf area index, crop growth rate, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, the weight of one hundred seed, and seed yield/ha. The highest yield, 2,027 kg ha -1 , was estimated with 20 cm between plants and 60 cm between rows (83,333 plants ha -1 ) and was associated with greater leaf area, leaf area index and crop growth rate, and a lower number of pods per plant, pod length and weight of one hundred seeds.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114069460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Colombia, it is grown mainly in the department of Nariño, 2 Álvarez-Sánchez, D.; Salazar-González, C.; Sañudo-Sotelo, B.; Betancourth-García, C.: variabilidad en semillas haba where the area and number of planted materials have been reduced due to the decrease in crop yield levels and the aggressiveness of phytosanitary problems. This study evaluated the diversity of this legume based on seed shape and color in a collection of 60 bean materials divided into seven varieties. Through digital image processing and manual measurement, polar length (LP), equatorial length (LE), LP/LE ratio, area (AR), thickness (GR) and hundred seed weight (P100) were determined, and color parameters based on the CIELab scale (L*, a* and b*) were calculated. The variables were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation and the multivariate principal component method (PCA). The results identified a high diversity of phenotypes, quantitatively characterizing the seven varieties. There was a high correlation between the variables LP, LE and AR, as well as between L* and b*. The biplot of the PCA results confirmed the variability of the collection and made it possible to generate a preliminary grouping. The research can be taken into account as a basis for the development of conservation and agronomic evaluation of this legume.","PeriodicalId":337971,"journal":{"name":"Revista U.D.C.A Actualidad & Divulgación Científica","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133596657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
