Objective: To assess intra-hospital mobility at admission as a predictor of loss of functional capacity during older adults´ hospitalization. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted, and personal and hospital related risk factors were assessed at admission and discharge. To determine whether Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) on admission could predict loss of functional capacity during hospitalization, a ROC curve was performed and area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. Binary logistic regression models were used to identify predictors of loss of functional capacity. Model 1 contained only SPPB. Model 2 SPPB was matched with age, sex, instrumental activity of daily living (IADL), cognition, depression and surgery. Data were entered into SPSS version 18.0. Results: 1,191 patients were included with a mean age of 70.02 (± 7.34). SPPB cutoff point of 6.5 (sensitivity 62%, specificity 54%) identified 593 (49.8%) patients at risk for functional loss. In logistic regression, SPPB alone showed prediction of functional loss (p < 0.001, OR 1.8, 95% CI = 1.5-2.5) between admission and discharge. Model 1 explained between 22 to 32% of the variation in functional capacity. In Model 2, three variables contributed to the loss. SPPB 6.5 increased 1.8 times (95% CI = 1.3-2.4), being a woman increased 1.4 times (95% CI = 1.0-1.8) and not having surgery increased 2 times (95% CI = 1.4-2.8) the chance of having functional loss during hospitalization. Conclusion: SPPB is a good instrument to predict loss of functional capacity in hospitalized older adults.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67162831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Functional muscle fitness is measured using the sitting-rising (from the floor) test (SRT), a simple, safe, fast and ecological test. Objective: The aim of our study was to determine the correlation between concern about falling and functional muscle fitness in the elderly. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted. The sample consisted of 53 elderly people of both sexes (86.8% women; 65.6 ± 4.7 years old; body mass index 28.5 ± 3.8 kg/m2), who were assessed for concern about falling (through Falls Efficacy Scale International, FES-I-Brazil) and functional muscle fitness (through SRT). Correlation analysis was performed using the Spearman test. For all analyses, a significance level of 5% (p < 0.05) was established. Results: Concern about falling showed a negative correlation with functional muscle fitness (rho =-0.229; p = 0.015). Conclusion: Elderly people with lower levels of functional muscle fitness have a higher level of concern about falling.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67163156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective To determine the prevalence of urinary symptoms and the impact of urinary incontinence (UI) on QoL during the last month of pregnancy. Methods Retrospective cross-sectional study, envolving 96 women in the immediate postpartum period personally interviewed about urinary symptoms and QoL during their last four weeks of gestation. Women were divided into two groups according to the number of pregnancies: G1 = 1 pregnancy (n = 41) and G2 = ≥ 2 pregnancies (n = 55). Those who reported the presence of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and/or urge incontinence (UUI) were also administered the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form (ICIQ-SF). Results The most common symptoms were nocturia (90.6%), urgency (82.3%), urinary frequency (71.9%) feeling of incomplete emptying (62.5%) and SUI and/or UUI (53.1%) with no differences between groups. Only the complaint of SUI in cough was significantly higher in G2 (p = 0.04). There was no difference on QoL between groups based on ICIQ-SF scores among those with UI (53.1%), however G1 reported serious impact and G2 very serious impact. Conclusion Almost all women reported some type of urinary symptom and the most prevalent were nocturia, urgency, pollakiuria, feeling of incomplete emptying and SUI and/or UUI. SUI was more prevalent among women with two or more pregnancies and during cough were significantly higher. Regardless of the number of pregnancies, the presence any type of UI had a negative impact on QoL.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67163880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective To examine the effect of seasonality on hospitalizations due to femur fracture among people residing in the Rio Grande do Sul state, southern Brazil, from 2008 to 2019. Methods Ecological study based on secondary data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS). A total of 74,374 reports of hospital admissions was considered. The generalized additive model (GAM) approach was employed to assess the seasonality of the time series, with stratification by sex and age groups and considering the monthly average number of events of femoral fractures per day as a dependent variable. Results A considerably higher incidence of femoral fractures in women aged 70 years or more was described. Among people aged less than 50 years, there is not an apparent seasonal effect. Men aged 70 years or older and women aged 50 years or older have a higher frequency of hospitalizations due to femur fractures in the colder months. Conclusion Among older people, more femoral fractures occurred during the winter compared to summer. This supports findings from other studies, although reasons for this seasonal variation are uncertain. The knowledge of these seasonal variations can help to plan the health care in the public health system.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67163917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective To analyze the physical, mental and quality of life effects on caregivers of patients with neurological sequelae and developmental delay during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Thirty informal caregivers divided into two groups (G1: Psychomotor disorders and syndromes; G2: Neurological sequelae) were evaluated using questionnaires on general data, burden and quality of life. Chi-square tests with Bonferroni post-hoc correction were performed to compare the response rate between the dependent variables and the level of burden. The student’s t-test was applied to determine the correlation between groups and quality of life, obtaining significant findings (p ≤ 0.05). Results No or minimal burden was found in 33.3% of the caregivers, and mild to moderate in 66.7% of each group, with no significant effect between them. In terms of quality of life, a decline was found in all domains, with a significant intergroup difference in social aspects and G1 exhibiting the highest declines (G1: 70.00 ± 23.99%; G2: 86.66 ± 20.84%). Conclusion There was a mild-to-moderate impact on physical burden, with a change in the quality of life of caregivers evaluated during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the standardized motor assessments available in the literature have important gaps, among them the complexity of the tasks evaluated and the absence of qualitative information about the subjects' performance. Objective To develop and evaluate the content validity of the Gross Motor Assessment of Children and Adolescents with ASD checklist (GMA-AUT checklist). Methods The GMA-AUT checklist was sent to a committee of experts for content validation. The content validity index (CVI) was used to assess the degree of agreement between the experts. To verify the content validity of the checklist, the minimal acceptable CVI was 0.80. Results Based on the suggestions made, the GMA-AUT was reformulated and submitted to the same panel of experts for reassessment. In the second and final draft of the checklist, only two items had a CVI of 0.88, while all others reached a CVI of 1.00. Conclusion The GMA-AUT checklist presents adequate content validity for assessing gross motor in children and adolescents with ASD according to experts in the field.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67163947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the absence of norm-referenced measurement poses limitations to its use. Objective To verify the influence of gender on plantar pressure during gait in healthy adults and to propose norm-referenced measurement that may be used as a reference for monitoring. Methods The study included 353 healthy participants (158 females and 195 males), aged between 20 and 64 years, and with a normal foot posture. Using a pressure platform, the peak plantar pressure and pressure-time integrals were measured in three areas of the foot: forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot. Results Both indicators of plantar pressure showed no significant differences between genders (p ≤ 0.05). Higher peak plantar pressure was found in the forefoot region, while a higher pressure-time integral was found in the hindfoot region. Percentile distribution values were made available for the data set of females and males. Conclusion The available norm-referenced measurement may be used to identify pathological gait parameters, monitor the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, and detect individuals in need of referral for a more sophisticated and detailed evaluation.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67164024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: To investigate the association of active behavior, body mass index (BMI), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) with serum levels of inflammatory interleukins in adolescents. Methods Cross-sectional population-based study of adolescents from public schools in São Luís, Maranhão. A theoretical model was built, based on Structural Equation Modeling, to explore the effects of the latent variable “active behavior” adjusted for socioeconomic status and gender, with effects on BMI, DBP and inflammatory load. Results Active behavior was associated with lower DBP values (standardized coefficient (SC) = -0.146; p = 0.029), while higher BMI was associated with higher DBP values (SC = 0.177; p < 0.001). For the highest values of active behavior there was a higher inflammatory load (SC = 0.442; p < 0.001); and a higher BMI was associated with a higher inflammatory burden (SC = 0.145; p = 0.025). Female gender had a higher inflammatory burden (SC = 0.282; p < 0.001). There was an indirect effect for females on lower inflammatory load values via reduction in active behavior (SC = -0.155; p < 0.001). Conclusion Active behavior reduces blood pressure levels in adolescents; while the increase in inflammatory cytokines induced by active behavior may be involved in their anti-inflammatory response for disease prevention.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67164145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This condition and its associated factors have been sufficiently investigated in recent years, however, prevalence estimates are still not fully clarified, as UI is seen as stigmatizing in a cultural context, and the search for treatment is not always considered by affected individuals. So, this dysfunction and its subtypes must be better understood so that it is possible to alleviate its consequences. Objective: To identify the prevalence of urinary incontinence subtypes, in women from a reference clinic in a public hospital in Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Methods: This was an observational and analytical study, with 227 women affected by UI, evaluated by means of a questionnaire including sociodemographic and general health information, in addition to defining the UI subtype. The SPSS version 25 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The patients presented a mean age of 60.33 ± 12.26 years. Mixed UI was the prevalent subtype (87.2%; n = 198), followed by stress (7.5%; n = 17), and urge (5.3%; n = 12). Among women with mixed UI, 60.6% had only completed elementary school, 59.1% were housewives, and 87.6% had experienced two or more pregnancies. Conclusion: Outlining UI subtypes, and the general and obstetric characteristics of the studied population enables the development of coping strategies for this condition, ranging from planning, diagnosis and treatment, to costs and public health management.","PeriodicalId":33749,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia em Movimento","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67164341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
