These learning objectives provide the challenge to create an environment that both applies academic principles to the studies undertaken, while gaining real world experience that will help them obtain the practical skill sets required to participate in the visual effects workforce.","PeriodicalId":337326,"journal":{"name":"SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Symposium on Education","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115249279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In one semester, we executed a game development process three times, changing members every time. Students had the opportunity to gain experience, working with various different people; also, providing a time limit for the development process, they learned how to manage development time effectively. Furthermore, by implementing the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle [ASQ] in each development, students had the opportunity to find and solve problems during the semester. Using this framework, we worked on the following three educational problems: (1) Development that is mixed with students of diverse ages and educational levels (2) To be conscious about development time (3) Learn how to solve issues related to game development","PeriodicalId":337326,"journal":{"name":"SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Symposium on Education","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133485842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The game is aimed at facilitating understanding and action on local climate change. We begin with a discussion of play as it relates to designing serious games. Then we articulate the experiential learning context revealed through three interconnected design strands: meaningful learning objectives -- how the learning is structured; situatedness -- where the learning takes place, geographically and culturally; learning through action -- how learning happens through play. We introduce the experiential learning context of Future Delta 2.0, a virtual 3D game. The game reaches across art, science and technology to communicate a community-based local vision of climate change challenges and solutions in Delta, British Columbia. Finally, we discuss the design, evaluation methods and analysis of the Future Delta 2.0 experiential learning context. Our conclusion is that the experiential learning context may contribute theoretically and practically to the research and design of 3D serious games.","PeriodicalId":337326,"journal":{"name":"SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Symposium on Education","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116391880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
