Sartre’s  Nausea (1938) not as the consequence, but as the primary cause of the sufferings experienced by Antoine Roquentin, the protagonist of the novel. By investigating the theoretical origin and development of the protagonist’s fear, we find out that it arises in two different moments: firstly, through the great effort of writing about himself and the Marquis de Rollebon; secondly, through the sugary perception of his body. By analyzing the relationship between Nausea and Sartre’s critical argumentations about some of the major topics, such as autobiography and body, this essay shows how Antoine realizes that his own existence is the real cause of his Nausea. This impulse reveals the basic connection between fear and sensitivity, and turns into an attempt to elude the relationship and the encounter with the world and individuals. This attempt has two main features: on the one hand, it can be thought of as a sign of the deep bond between two dimensions, private and public, in which fear can manifest. On the other hand, it refers primarily to a significant condition that is articulated into the stages of apprehension, uncertainty in relation to the acknowledgment of the others, and the possibility that fear may coincide with the angst. As nowadays it is no longer possible to consider nature as an invariant (as the target of an aggression perpetrated by humankind or simple non-I), I intend to explore the involvement of nature within the domain of hyperreality (Baudrillard) and hyperobjects, which have led to its disappearance (Morton). These hyper-perspectives share difficulties, which can be summed up in the lack of consideration of the unamendability of the natural world. In order to find a solution to this, the final section of the article stresses the strong need for a new realistic approach to the relationship between history and nature (in light of Bloch and Benjamin). After a clarification of several ambiguous uses of the the word ‘multiculturalism’, this paper investigates the possibility of intercultural dialogue, taking into account the incommensurability (in the Kuhnian sense) that might characterize cultural relations. We then proceed to clarify the positions that some authors such as the Mexican Leon Olive (plural cultural constructivism), German Ulrich Beck (multiple contextual universalism) and the Portuguese Bo- aventura de Sousa Santos (ecology of knowledge) take on these matters, and we outline the fecundity of the miscegenation/ metissage  concept as a response to the intercultural dialogue problematic as well as to the sociocultural notion of identity that the current multicultural society claims. I will start with a discussion of Fichte’s identity principle, then I will proceed to explore Massimo Cacciari’s inter- pretation, by showing the inherently discursive character of the aforementioned principle. I will then analyze the political meaning of the conceptual couple iden- tity-otherness through the reflections of Martin Heidegger and Carl Schmitt. The political ontology proposed by these authors serves as a theoretical framework for the revision of some fundamental categories of the contemporary politico-philo- sophical debate.
