The economic crisis that hit Europe and the world had an impact on the collapse of most of the sugar industries in the Dutch East Indies. Kebun Agung Sugar Factory managed to survive in the midst of a global crisis that began towards the end of 1929. Throughout that period, various crises hit the world and Indonesia such as economic, social, and political crises. This research uses historical methods with the following stages; topic selection, heuristics, interpretation, data analysis, and historiography. The results showed that the Kebon Agung sugar factory was part of the history of the sugar industry in the colonial period which contributed to the increase in sugar production in the Dutch East Indies. This sugar factory was able to survive the crisis that accompanied its history because of its efficiency strategy, production reduction, and cooperation with other sugar factories in terms of utilizing pre-existing infrastructure such as no longer building railways and roads for the transportation of raw materials (sugarcane) to the factory. In the midst of the crisis and the threat of bankruptcy, the Kebon Agung Sugar Factory still survived and continued to carry out production activities until the sugar factory was nationalized in 1958. Thus, the Kebun Agung Sugar Factory also recorded its history by contributing to efforts improve the state economy. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":33570,"journal":{"name":"Sasdaya Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75404329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years has had a major impact on various sectors of the world, and the most affected is tourism. Many studies on pandemic conditions and tourism have been conducted with a focus on the impact of the pandemic. For this reason, it is necessary to look back at the resilience process carried out by tourism actors and the tourism community in dealing with the pandemic. Yogyakarta, especially Kaliurang, is the most affected area due to the pandemic. This study attempts to invite a revisit of tourism resilience in Kaliurang. Ethnography is used to capture the resilience efforts made by the community and tourism actors in Kaliurang. The research shows a change in community structure and agency development at the individual and group levels. Both structure and agency simultaneously help the process of community resilience, which is then developed into resilience in the tourism sector.","PeriodicalId":33570,"journal":{"name":"Sasdaya Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81861788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But in reality, it does not produce a sense of security, peace, order and social order. This paper is intended to look at the phenomenon of democracy, especially election practices, not only from a political and power perspective, but also to see how elections actually create social disharmony in the Yogyakarta city community. This paper is based on one argument, namely: that democracy is intended to build a more open, just, peaceful and prosperous society that does not work properly because the understanding and practices of democracy that have been practiced so far have actually led to increased resistance and social disharmony. This paper uses a qualitative analytical method with data sourced from direct observation and from local newspapers. From this research it was found that (1) social conflict in villages, especially in Yogyakarta is getting higher and social resistance is increasing; (2) Community grouping, and segregation tend to be based on religious and political affiliations; and village gangs (3) Villages that used to be administratively separated, were instead claimed as the village of certain groups which referred to certain religious-based groups or parties. From this paper it can be concluded that the conflicts that occurred in the city of Yogyakarta during the 2019 presidential election were more caused by village-based sentiments and solidarity of certain parties and groups rather than conflicts between elites.","PeriodicalId":33570,"journal":{"name":"Sasdaya Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities","volume":"83 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76782997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to describe the local wisdom of selamatan bayi using an anthropological linguistic approach to the contextual design of Javanese tradition. Data collection refers to the technique of recording, participatory observation, and interviews. The results of this study prove that selamatan bayi has a philosophical meaning based on Javanese cultureThere are seven kinds of selamatan bayi among the Javanese, namely (1) brokohan (birthday greetings), (2) sepasaran (5th birthday celebration), (3) selapanan (35-day baby celebration), (4) telonan (3 months birthday greetings), (5) pitonan (7 months of baby's birth), (6) setahunan (1 year of baby's birth), and (7) aqiqah (selamatan bayi for Javanese Muslims). The local wisdom of Javanese in selamatan bayi can be seen from five things, namely (1) the definition, (2) types, (3) ubarampe ‘equipment’, such as sega ingkung, sega gudangan, bubur abang putih, and so on; (4) the method of implementation, and (5) the development of the times. The analyzed violent language was taken from a conversation on Twitter that responds to Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast video with the title “TUTORIAL JADI G4Y DI INDO!!= PINDAH KE JERMAN (tonton sblm ngamuk) RAGIL AND FRED”. The issues of violence in language have been arising when the words used by Twitter accounts @cholilnafis, @anasabuabdillah, @mas_po_sanusi, @ridwan2474, @djoesa, @defrizonz, and @samsularifin000 are seen in a particular way in the context of their response to Deddy’s podcast video. This article shows that there is a process of othering and disciplining the body through the choices of words that contain elements of violence. Violent languages are operated to alienate others, as in the concept of “blaming others”. From Lozano and Laurent’s perspective, “blaming others” is accusing minorities under social inappropriateness instead of seeing their own fault. Meanwhile, the process of disciplining the body moves through violent languages that are associated with interpretation of Islamic discourse.","PeriodicalId":33570,"journal":{"name":"Sasdaya Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85963928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In literature, especially in Europe, the figure of a mother is mystified and is often associated with the figure of the Virgin Mary. This is closely related to the oppression experienced by women due to the inequality of gender construction produced by society. The novel Chanson Douce by Leila Slimani narrates two mothers with different backgrounds. This study aims to carry out a deconstruction reading, especially on the discourse of motherhood. In interpreting something we are always dominated by dominant hierarchies and superior poles which are considered as \"single truth\". This single truth can lead to vulnerability to discrimination or service. The deconstruction method used in this study uses the concepts of trace and difference, in readings that lead to the meaning of texts that are \"friendly\" to the others. The results of this study lead us to new questions regarding the challenges of motherhood in this post-industrial era.","PeriodicalId":33570,"journal":{"name":"Sasdaya Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78339943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
