In patients with neurological diseases, this phenomenon is much more common; its diagnosis and treatment are often overlooked due to other symptoms that are easier to perceive. In neurological diseases, urinary incontinence can have various causes, related to brain damage as well as damage to the peripheral nerves or the spinal cord. Objectives The aim of this study is to draw attention to the often-overlooked problem of urinary incontinence among neurological patients. Material and Methods The data was analysed from the many articles available using Google Scholar and PubMed. The mechanisms have been discussed, so that the work is better understood and provides a complete analysis of the problem of urinary incontinence in neurological diseases. Results Urinary incontinence is an often-overlooked problem associated with neurological diseases. The various mechanisms that lead to urinary incontinence pose a challenge to effective treatment. There are many therapies used in treatment, including drug therapy, neurostimulation, surgery, but also behavioural therapy and treatment of the underlying disease. The disease incidences increase with age and are a large problem of the elderly. Women and people doing physical work are more often ill. Knee arthroplasty is the procedure carried out most often for advanced degenerative changes. The disease causes severe pain and limits joint movement, thus impairing professional and social life and hindering everyday activities. Replacing the knee joint reduces pain, improves the biomechanical conditions of the joint and gait, and allows to undertake physical activity, and thus positively impacts on the quality of life of patients. The aim of the research was to determine the functional and gait capabilities of patients rehabilitated after knee arthroplasty. Material and Method The research involved 60 patients, including 30 women and 30 men, who were subject to two researches: before and after surgery followed by rehabilitation. The author’s questionnaire, Laitinen scale was used for the research. The range of flexion and extension in the knee joint was assessed, and the “Up & Go” test was carried out. Statistical analysis of the collected data was carried out in the Statistica 13.0 program. Summary and Conclusions The research revealed that rehabilitation treatment positively impacts on improving functionality and gait in patients’ daily lives. The rehabilitation applied after knee arthroplasty significantly improved the range of flexion and extension movements in the knee joint. Moreover, a statistically significant increase in the level of balance and a decrease in the risk of falls in the researched persons was observed. {"title":"Effects of Cardiac Rehabilitation in Patients after Myocardial Infarction – A Case Report","authors":"Kinga Żmijewska, Natalia Madej, A. Gadek","doi":"10.36145/JHSM2022.07","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.36145/JHSM2022.07","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Purpose The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of cardiac rehabilitation in a patient after myocardial infarction (MI). Methods The participant in the study was a 58-year-old male with a medical history of myocardial infarction. The participant underwent a 25-day course of cardiac rehabilitation, with pre – and post-intervention outcome measures to assess his physical performance; the evaluation involved a treadmill exercise stress test according to the Bruce protocol. The total time and load of the test, maximal heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the reason for discontinuing the study were determined. The rehabilitation protocol included cycling a cycloergometer, active exercises, resistance exercises and relaxation exercises. The level of exercise difficulty was increased weekly, starting from 2 METs (60% of the MET obtained during the stress test). Results During the exercise stress test performed following the completion of the rehabilitation management, the total stress test time was prolonged by 353 s, while the load of the test was increased by 5.64 METs as compared to the results obtained during the first examination. The maximal heart rate decreased by 12 beats/min, the systolic blood pressure by 15 mm Hg and the diastolic blood pressure by 10 mm Hg. The reason for discontinuing the test was fatigue (the score of 16 using the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion scale). Providing high quality care and ensuring well-being of patients should always be a priority for health care institutions. Objectives The aim of the study was to present and compare patients’ opinions on medical care provided and to determine the degree of their satisfaction as measured in three selected chemotherapy departments in hospitals of different referral level in Lodz voivodeship. Material and methods The study was conducted among 450 patients hospitalized in three selected chemotherapy departments in hospitals of different referral level in Lodz voivodeship in the second half of 2018. The research tool used was a self-designed questionnaire composed of 50 questions, divided into issue-related sections such as first contact with, and organization of, a given centre, treatment and care, and information on the patient. Results It was established that the possibility to get acquainted with hospital regulations and Patients’ Rights Charter, adherence to timelines of diagnostic procedures and chemotherapy medication, access to pastoral care and psychological counselling, translates into patients’ comfort and satisfaction, the appropriately measured mean level of which proved significantly different for each of the studied medical centres. Consequently, patients’ opinions on health services provided in the selected chemotherapy departments of different referral levels varied. Conclusions Considering the empirical distribution of a synthesized SAT variable, especially its median computed for random patient samples from the compared medical centres, it can be concluded that best satisfied with services and treatment were patients of the NU-MED Diagnostic and Oncology Centre in Tomaszow Mazowiecki. Research indicates a possible neuroprotective effect of antidiabetic drugs used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Hence, physicians must approach the patient holistically and consider the multitude of factors that increase that risk. Recent reports suggest that, in addition to the classic cardiovascular risk factors, there is a group of lesser-known factors that also increases the incidence of CVD. One of them is psoriasis. This disease, known primarily for its cutaneous manifestation, actually impacts the whole body due to systemic inflammation. The challenge for physicians is to incorporate these new risk factors into the standard management of patients with psoriasis and to adjust treatment. Our work aims to analyse not only the association of psoriasis with increased CVD risk, but also what therapeutic options are available. Such rises have resulted in an epidemic of alcohol-related diseases which have thereby become one of the main factors affecting average life expectancy; this actually rose during 2013–2017 but then fell in 2018. A study undertaken on 52 OECD countries, (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), projected a 1.6 year decrease in life expectancy in Poland due to alcohol-related disease and injury by 2050. Health-related alcohol abuse is influenced by alcohol’s widespread availability and relatively low price, and the ineffectual enforcement of legal regulations for the sale of alcohol to minors. An increased availability of alcohol also fuels demand for alcoholic beverages, which in turn increases the risk of numerous injuries, accidents, aggressive behaviour, domestic violence and criminal or suicidal tendencies. An increased burden is now being placed on the state health care system due to the absence of an appropriate national policy regarding the harmful effects of drinking alcohol. The group of cardiovascular diseases includes different disease entities. Most of them are associated with the atherosclerotic process in the blood vessels. One of the most important methods of preventing atherosclerosis and its complications is proper nutrition, rich in polyunsaturated vegetable oils and low in saturated fatty acids. Many research results confirm the positive effect of a plant-based diet on the circulatory system. A well-balanced diet based on plant-based products reduces the risk of hypertension, heart disease, prevents type 2 diabetes, lowers cholesterol and helps to reduce blood pressure. Vegetarian eating patterns can reduce cardiovascular disease mortality by 30%. In addition, the plant-based diet is the only dietary pattern that has shown cessation and reversal of atherosclerotic plaque. Research design & methods The Authors conducted a comparative research study using public reports, administrative proceedings and national legislations. Findings The study revealed that the described malpractices and misconducts occurred on examined markets intensified during the pandemic. Some of them happened for the first time on this occasion. Implications/Recommendations The public governances and other competent organs should continue their supervisory activities and public information and education campaigns in order to highlight the frauds and unethical conducts that occur and will occur on the market. Classic massage is one of the methods of reducing back pain and is included in the therapeutic procedure. Purpose The purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness of classic massage and massage with the trigger points therapy elements in patients with painful ailments by cutting the lumbosacral spine. Material and method of the study The study involved 84 patients with pain in the lumbosacral spine. The subjects were divided into two groups. Group I included 42 people (50.0%) who received classic massage, and group II included another 42 people (50.0%) who received classic massage with the trigger points therapy elements. A proprietary questionnaire was used for the analysis, which allowed for the assessment of the effectiveness of the applied treatment, supplemented with the VAS scale and the Thomayer test. Results The results of the study show a statistically significant difference between the intensity of perceived pain measured before and after the procedures in both group I (p<0.001) and group II (p<0.001). The average improvement achieved by the patients from group I was 2.88 points, and by the patients from group II to 4.48 points. On the other hand, the average improvement in the Thomayer test obtained by the patients from group I was 2.12 cm, and by the patients from group II was 3.68 cm. The difference in the treatment effect in the two groups was statistically significant (p<0.001).
