Simulation is carried out using a commercial protocol modelling tool and a novel technique is developed which reduces simulation times significantly. It is found that the call blocking performance of the architecture is determined largely by lognormal shadowing, if the number of nodes per net is large and it is required that all nodes can simultaneously receive voice calls. However, the call dropping performance is largely invariant to the number of nodes per net, providing there are at least 20 users per net.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. The error statistics generated with these techniques are not random, but instead bursty. In today's communications infrastructure, SATCOM terminals are used to provide the range extension for tactical communication systems. These tactical communications systems employ either asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching and/or Internet protocol IP) technology. Both ATM and IP require high quality channels with BERs on the order of 10/sup -8/ or better. Traditional SATCOM channels only provide BER performance on the order of 10/sup -5/. Concatenated codes are one solution for improving the quality of SATCOM links. But the burstness of the Viterbi decoding limits the effectiveness of the concatenated codes. Performance can be improved by including an interleaver to disperse the Viterbi error bursts. We present the Viterbi decoder's error burst statistics (i.e. burst size and the interarrival times) as a function of the signal to noise ratio. Given these statistics, the performance of two different tactical communications systems are assessed: (1) an ATM based switching system and (2) an IP based system.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. Also, an accurate antenna pointing system is required to satisfy the link budget requirements on the edge of antenna coverage. The antenna pointing accuracy can be improved considerably by on-orbit calibration of the diurnal satellite antenna pointing misalignment error which arises from the combination of several error sources, such as structural thermal deformations, the attitude determination system, the antenna ground alignment procedure, and the antenna gimbal system. This paper describes how an approximately tenfold reduction in pointing error can be achieved from on-orbit antenna pointing calibration of the gimbaled antenna of the Milstar satellite. In addition, the paper describes the process that was implemented to achieve these results.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. IEEE Military Communications. After an equivalent time-invariant single-input multi-output channel model is created for the de-spreaded signals through employing multiple antennas at receiver site, both the cross-relation and the pilot symbols are applied to the equivalent linear time-invariant single-input multi-output channel model to derive a recursive semi-blind channel identification solution. Simulations are performed to evaluate the recursive semi-blind channel identification method's applicability to the third-generation wideband CDMA communication systems.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. It is shown that the combination of a trellis code, interleaver and the CPM modulator results in a significantly enhanced distance spectrum for the transmitted signals. Upper bounds on the bit error rate are derived by considering the combination of the trellis code, interleaver and the CPM modulator as serially concatenated code. Finally, iterative coherent and non-coherent receivers are proposed and their performance is evaluated through computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. It is shown that the minimum average bit error rate of a correlation receiver is achieved by adaptively optimizing the receiver chip waveform depending on the energy and delay profiles of interfering users. Instead of directly solving an integral equation which gives the optimum chip waveform, we discretize the receiver chip waveform and develop a simple adaptive algorithm to find an approximate solution. Analytical predictions, as well as numerical results, show that the proposed receiver achieves a significant performance improvement over the conventional correlation receiver by effectively suppressing the multiple-access interference.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. These expressions can be used to analyze the performance of standard uniform M-PSK constellations and nonuniform M-PSK constellations. Nonuniform M-PSK has previously been shown to be useful for multimedia communication, multicast transmission, and adaptive signaling. We analyze several systems that employ nonuniform M-PSK for multicast transmission over Rayleigh fading channels, and we determine the performance of nonuniform, M-PSK with convolutional coding.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999. The MMCR protocol will provide these parameters to the TOW protocol, by the linkage of the MMCR protocol to the UIS protocol in the TMD protocol. The minimized packet delay developed for optimal, specialized PDU sizes for war games in the MMCR protocol contains the theatre of war image compression and expansion function in the Lagrange multiplier, contained within the UIS protocol gateway characteristics. The MMCR protocol enables optimal SG/ATM/DSI or SG/ATM/INTERNET access during STOW (synthetic theatre of war) games. This optimal PDU size obtained from the Lagrange multiplier i.e. marginal utility in game theory, optimization for minimizing delay, imaging reduction and expansion factor, enables representation of the object oriented code implementation imaging criteria for various sections of the CCC protocol geometric software structure planes.","PeriodicalId":334957,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 1999.
