We consider the design of a high availability structure (a spine) in the network, so that a desired availability for the network flows may be achieved. The tackled problem involves the selection of the edges forming the spine and the selection of the enhanced availability for each of those edges, aiming at fulfilling a prespecified availability value for each flow, at minimum cost. We solve the formulated Mixed Integer Linear Problem (MILP) for small networks, which allows us to identify some characteristics of the spanning tree formed by the set of links with upgraded availability. Afterwards, using that information, we propose a heuristic based on a centrality measure, which allows us to devise the appropriate set of links, and which may be used in larger networks. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the resolution approach in finding spines equal to the optimal ones or to the best known solutions.","PeriodicalId":334421,"journal":{"name":"2020 16th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks DRCN 2020","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126505546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to improve reliability, we propose a cross-layer algorithm to find the optimal routing and resource allocation schemes when shadowing occurs. Simulation results show that the optimal scheme found by the proposed algorithm significantly improves the performance of optical attocell networks with one randomly shadowed link.","PeriodicalId":334421,"journal":{"name":"2020 16th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks DRCN 2020","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127177542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
