La literatura y los mapas de distribución publicados por eBird sugieren que la especie utiliza la región del Caribe durante la migración otoñal y primaveral. La isla de Cuba solo posee un reporte de la especie en la cayería norte de Ciego de Ávila y Camagüey. Fue capturado un individuo macho en redes de niebla pertenecientes a la Estación de Anillamiento Permanente Juan Christoph Gundlach, ubicada en la Reserva Ecológica Siboney Juticí, del municipio de Santiago de Cuba, provincia Santiago de Cuba. Este constituye el primer reporte de la especie en la zona oriental de Cuba. La falta de avistamientos de Bijirita de Connecticut en Cuba puede estar condicionada por dos factores principalmente: la baja densidad de individuos en la isla durante la migración o la posible confusión de los ornitólogos cubanos con especies similares.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48443724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Entre estas, merecen especial atención las enfermedades transmitidas por mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae), con especial énfasis en las arbovirosis. Con el objetivo de profundizar en los hábitats preferenciales de cría de Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus, 1762), se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo mediante la revisión documental del registro de muestras del Laboratorio de Entomología Departamental (LED) de Jutiapa, en la región suroriental de Guatemala. Como resultado de las inspecciones periódicas trimestrales, intra y peridomicialiares, realizadas en el universo urbano y rural, se reportaron 56 tipos de depósitos positivos a formas preimaginales de Ae. aegypti, de los cuales 17 fueron útiles (30.35 %) y aunaron el 90.00 % de los depósitos con presencia del mosquito. Se destacó la pila estándar, que aportó el 36.26 % de los casos positivos, y de los cuales el 88 % estuvieron ubicados en el exterior. Ante la variedad de tipos de depósitos artificiales que la población jutiapaneca utiliza en el entorno domiciliario, las hembras de Ae. aegypti no mostraron preferencia por oviponer en depósitos naturales, reportándose la presencia del vector en siete jícaras de coco y 11 oquedades en árboles, fuentes de infestación que oscilaron entre el 0.16 % y el 0.25 %, respectivamente.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47113822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on our analyses of morphological and genetic data we recognize 14 species in this genus, four of which we describe as new species (A. aridius sp. nov., A. australis sp. nov., A. higuey sp. nov., and A. hispaniolae sp. nov.), and two are resurrected from the synonymy of A. cybotes (A. doris comb. nov., A. ravifaux comb. nov.). Also, we place Anolis citrinellus Cope, 1864 in the synonymy of Ctenonotus distichus (Cope, 1861); Anolis haetianus Garman, 1887 in the synonymy of Audantia cybotes (Cope, 1863); and Anolis whitemani Williams, 1963 in the synonymy of Audantia saxatilis (Mertens, 1938). Finally, we designate a lectotype for Anolis cybotes Cope, 1863, and for Anolis riisei Reinhardt & Lütken, 1863. Our main focus is on the populations of anoles formerly referred to as Audantia cybotes which we demonstrate to be a complex of seven distinct species. For these seven species we provide a standardized description of external morphology, color descriptions in life, color photographs in life, description and illustration of hemipenis morphology (if available), distribution maps based on the specimens examined, comments on the conservation status, and natural history notes. Finally, we provide a dichotomous key for the identification of the 14 species of the genus Audantia occuring on Hispaniola.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45137544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Se aplicó una inyección de 5 ml de KCl al celoma. Se muestrearon 32 erizos de mar para completar 30 botellas con ambos tipos de gametos. Después de una hora de fertilización, Metanophrys sp. se encontró en algunas botellas. Después de 72 horas, 24 de las 30 botellas tenían ciliados con una proporción de aproximadamente 25 individuos por larva de erizo, observándose la depredación de éstas por Metanophrys sp. Se realizaron siete colectas en temporadas de secas de 2008 a 2015 y una en temporada lluviosa de 2015. Los organismos endobénticos se colectaron con una draga y los organismos epibénticos, con una red tipo Renfro y chinchorro. Todos los organismos se identificaron hasta el nivel permisible. El listado está conformado por un total de 43 grupos zoológicos, distribuidos en ocho filos, siete clases, nueve órdenes, 16 familias y tres tipos de larvas. Los grupos Decapoda (10), Gastropoda (8), Amphipoda (4), Bivalvia (3), Tanaidacea (3) e Isopoda (3), fueron los más diversos, seguidos en menor medida por los grupos que se determinaron a niveles superiores a Familia (12). La diversidad de grupos es similar a la de otros sistemas costeros veracruzanos, donde los órdenes Decapoda, Amphipoda y Tanaidacea fueron los más diversos, seguidos por Isopoda. Los resultados de la presente investigación, representan un aporte importante para el conocimiento de la diversidad del sistema estudiado y de la distribución de los grupos en Veracruz y golfo de México.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47054255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The morphology of the new species is compared to that of the Cuban species Brachybaenus cubensis (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1888), which may be its closest relative. Although these species are similar, diagnostic features of B. domingensis are the yellowish coloration of the face, spines on the anterior tibiae shorter than the eye length, and wings that markedly surpass the abdominal end. In B. cubensis the face is mostly black, the spines in the anterior tibiae are as long or longer than the eye length and the wings barely surpass the abdominal end. The sex and adult-juveniles ratio was calculated for all sampled localities. It was found that the sex ratio of L. zonata was significantly different from 1: 1 and is biased towards females (1.0: 1.6). Juvenile fish were more abundant and frequent than adults (69.3%). More than 800 fish were measured and weighed to analyze the frequency of size classes, morphometry and body condition. Ten size classes were distinguished that vary in frequency according to sex. Total length of the specimens ranged from 6.50 to 65.69 mm, while weight varied between 0.004 and 3.941 g. The morphology varied between sexes and a pronounced sexual dimorphism was found. All the morphometric variables studied showed a high level of association (r). The adjustment of the regression models (r2) of the morphometric relationships was between 85% and 99%. The relationship between the standard length and the total weight was reflected in the rates of growth. The Relative Condition Factor (Kn) demonstrated the good state of health of this fish population, but also variations between the sexes were detected.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47048132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
