There, the new species is parapatric with T. haetianus, the only previously known Tropidophis on Hispaniola, but exhibits striking differences in scalation (much higher number of ventral scales), in other structural morphological traits (head and body proportions), and in dorsal and ventral coloration and pattern (e.g., fewer spot rows, and a patternless head and venter, etc.). The locality of this new species lies within an area where other vertebrate species have been recently discovered, underscoring the growing appreciation of the Barahona Peninsula as a diversity hotspot. Yet, this region also remains poorly studied and it is also highly imperiled due to ongoing anthropogenic change, justifying more conservation efforts.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42311359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La mayoría (62%) de estas especies habitan a menos de 301 m s.n.m.; 24.0% habitan entre los 301 y 600 m y solamente cuatro especies (5.0%) han sido reportadas de localidades situadas entre los 1201 y 1920 m s.n.m., siendo esta última la cota de máxima altitud registrada para el género en este continente. Se caracterizó la masa de huevos y las eclosiones en el tiempo y se realizaron algunas mediciones en los huevos, larvas y adultos utilizando una técnica digital con herramientas de diseño gráfico. La masa de huevos consistía en ≈ 23400 huevos y una hembra no contribuyó con la postura. El tamaño de los huevos fue mayor que los documentados para Cissites auriculata (Champion, 1892). Este trabajo complementa lo descrito para la especie y amplía la escasa información sobre su presencia en Venezuela, incluyendo aspectos que no han sido documentados en el país.","PeriodicalId":33102,"journal":{"name":"NOVITATES CARIBAEA","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48463909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
