For the wind farm output randomness, the paper applies chance constrained programming theories to establish the model of multi-objective wind farm reactive power compensation, which makes voltage level and power loss as the objective functions. The method of wind farm approached to the modeling and power flow calculation is discussed, and an improved differential evolution algorithm combined with Monte Carlo stochastic simulation technology is proposed to solve the model. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model and method is validated by IEEE 24-bus system with wind farms.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132493069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a framework to analyze the vulnerability of electric grid under different attack-defense scenarios based on the knowledge of game theory. Pure strategy and mixed strategy Nash Equilibrium corresponding to the attack-defense contest can be obtained by solving the payoff matrix under different pre-defined attack-defense scenarios. Based on the Nash Equilibrium, the vulnerability rankings of power grid components can be obtained and the vulnerability assessment can be conducted as well as the allocation plan of defense fund.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130261659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object of scheduling model is to track load curve given by the grid dispatch center in the largest degree, and constraints includes upper and lower bound of each unit output, the maximum allowable spilling wind, photovoltaic output, and storage unit operating constraints. Spearman correlation coefficient ρs is used to deal with the correlation between two random variables, then used to determine the priority order of scheduling. Taking an example of a 24-hour wind, photovoltaic power forecast and demand curve, the proposed method is validated. The results show that the proposed approach can increase the utilization ratio of photovoltaic power, improve the operating condition of the energy storage unit, and improve the ability of the wind-solar-storage hybrid generation system to track load, and make the system more environmentally friendly.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132184065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An MPPT system comprises of a DC/DC converter and tracking algorithm set to run the PV at its maximum power point. The SEPIC is a non-inverting DC/DC converter able to output a voltage greater or less than the input voltage. In this paper we analyse the theoretical losses of the SEPIC and compare them with the practical losses measured at various switching frequency. The results show that the switching frequency of the device determines its physical size, cost and efficiency. The frequencies tested in this paper were 50Khz, 200kHz and 400kHz, with a 7% drop in efficiency between each frequency. As the switching frequency increases, the units become physically smaller and so cheaper. This however is at the cost of efficiency.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116161831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a risk-based method to assess the dynamic security level of power system under typhoon weather is presented. The impact of typhoon on operational reliability of transmission lines is modeled firstly. An emergency control optimization problem is then addressed to measure the severity of each contingency, in which the cost of generation/load shedding is minimized and the transient stability constraint and post-contingency overload constraint are considered simultaneously. Case study on the New England system is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the resultant emergency control scheme can provide feasible decision making against potential contingencies.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"5 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122108097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed model based on chance constrained programming, is a nonlinear programming model with multi-constraints which has random variables. It takes the maximal PV power capacity that can be accepted by power grid as objective function, takes power flow equations, secure operation of power grid and particularly static voltage stability margin as constraints. According to the characteristics of the problem, stochastic simulation technique and particle swarm optimization algorithm are applied. The method is analyzed on the IEEE-30 system, the results show that the proposed model is suitable for calculating PV capacity limit considering the randomness of PV output and load, also the results demonstrate the accuracy and conciseness of the model, which can be available for the planning of PV power station.","PeriodicalId":330524,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123494573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
