Chinese culture in Cambodia is gaining more and more popularity, and the language is becoming an instrument of communication in many areas, among which it is worth highlighting the economy and cooperation in the field of security. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the penetration of Chinese culture has negative sides, which are also discussed in the article.","PeriodicalId":330482,"journal":{"name":"South East Asia: Actual problems of Development","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129235408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biden. Despite the short term in the presidency, it is already possible to note a high level of continuity in the Indo-Pacific strategy of J. Biden in comparison with his predecessor D. Trump. The basis of a «new» approach – is the comprehensive containment of the PRC, the promotion of alternative economic mechanisms and the strengthening of the military-political dialogue with the US allies, as well as deeper involvement of key partners, including ASEAN member states. For the Association itself, the development of the IPR and the institutionalization of its main formats is a challenge to its central role in ensuring security in the region, which can further exacerbate intra-ASEAN contradictions.","PeriodicalId":330482,"journal":{"name":"South East Asia: Actual problems of Development","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125845232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The benefits acquired and possible losses are assessed. The construction of a railway in Laos, linking it to China, is the most successful Belt and Road project in Southeast Asia, which has a special place in China's strategic plans. The railway construction project is of great economic importance for Laos and in the future can stimulate its economic growth. At the same time, there is a risk of falling into debt dependence on China. The ability of Laos to meet its debt obligations will depend on the profitability of the project, which, however, raises many questions, since the project is more focused on the short-term interests of China than on the long-term interests of Laos. Whether Laos will be able to economically benefit from the construction of the railway remains questionable. But there is no doubt that China will benefit. China will not only strengthen economic presence in this country, relying on the support of the local elite, but also use Laos as a springboard to move deeper into Southeast Asia.","PeriodicalId":330482,"journal":{"name":"South East Asia: Actual problems of Development","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121701271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that by the end of 2020, a new stage in the history of Indonesian radical Islam began. The prohibition of the Front of the Defenders of Islam and the arrest of its leader Muhammad Rizieq Shihab institutionalised the situation of organisational and ideological uncertainty in radical Islam. It is assumed that “Salam Online” at the early 2021 monopolised the promotion of Islamists opinion in society, when other media minimised their activity. The FPI formally ceased its activities, the Islamists, temporarily lost their leader and the ability to operate using a legal public organisation. The situation of institutional uncertainty did not affect the activity of the Islamist media. In general, the author believes that Islamist media chosen the tactic of waiting, since the prospects for the consolidation of the Islamist political discourse and the possible trajectories of the development of Islamic radicalism remain uncertain.","PeriodicalId":330482,"journal":{"name":"South East Asia: Actual problems of Development","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132225447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Australia has benefited from cooperation with China: it has become one of the leading exporters of natural resources both regionally and globally and has also attracted human and material capital, which has accelerated the development of the Fifth Continent as one of the most popular destinations for tourism and education in the region. However, with the development of trade relations between Australia and China, there were growing concerns that the high export dependence and investment in the Fifth Continent's infrastructure from China bear the risks. In this paper, the author will focus on some topical issues of Sino-Australian relations in 2020 — the first half of 2021. In particular, the author will consider the trade diversification and the perception of the Australian authorities of investments in critical infrastructure from the PRC.","PeriodicalId":330482,"journal":{"name":"South East Asia: Actual problems of Development","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115196442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
