Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL 6) can be used to detect lung disease caused by air pollution. However, the number of studies investigating the link between air pollutant exposure and KL-6 levels is inadequate. The present study explores the association between air pollutant exposure and KL-6 levels in workers in different settings. Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 70 individuals who were divided into two groups. Dust levels were measured using a particle counter as a proxy for air pollutant levels. KL-6 levels were measured with ELISA. The Spearman correlation test, Mann-Whitney test, and generalized linear model were used in statistical analyses. Results and Discussion: Air pollutant exposure differed significantly between outdoor and indoor settings (p = 0.000). A significant difference was found in KL-6 serum levels between outdoor and indoor workers (p = 0.000). Air pollutant levels were inversely associated with KL-6 serum levels in outdoor (r = -0.557, p < 0.05) and indoor workers (r = -0.360, p < 0.05). Working duration did not significantly correlate with KL-6 serum levels in either group. A tendency of linear association among air pollutant exposure, overall working duration, and KL-6 serum levels was found in the multivariable model. Conclusion: Work settings were associated with varying exposures to air pollutants and KL-6 serum levels. Higher exposure to pollutants may be associated with an increase in KL-6 serum levels. ","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45810123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pesticides' role as Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) has gained great concern in the field of thyroid hormones. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to determine the link of pesticide exposure with thyroid hormone levels among male agricultural workers and pesticide applicators. Discussion: It was discovered that the majority of reviewed articles have similar results concerning the effects of pesticide exposure on the serum levels of thyroid hormones among either farmworkers or pesticide applicators. Commonly, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides are known as one of the EDCs. The results showed the elevation of TSH and T4 serum levels mostly occurred among groups exposed to insecticide application only rather than those exposed to various pesticide types. Moreover, the hormonal change differed based on each class of pesticide. Conclusion: This review suggests that some types of pesticides extensively used in agriculture might be involved in the increase and decrease in thyroid hormone levels among exposed individuals. Further studies should assess specific types of pesticides and the adverse health effects which involve confounding factors to yield robust analysis.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49309175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intensive use of pesticides increases pesticide residues in soil and water. Pesticides can cause certain cancers such as cancer of the digestive system, stomach, esophagus, lung, intestine, bladder, and lymphoma, mutagenic, and teratogenic. The purpose of this research was to determine the risk analysis of community water quality in the agricultural area of Alahan Panjang, Solok Regency. Methods: The design applied in this research was a descriptive observational study conducted with a cross-sectional design and a field study approach with Environmental Health Risk Analysis (EHRA), by examining30 dug wells in the agricultural area of Alahan Panjang and the people who consume the water taken by purposive sampling. Results and Discussion: The average length of use of well water by the community was 26.87 years. Based on the results of sanitation inspections, most of the well water was vulnerable to contamination, namely 90%. All well water samples exceeded the quality standard value of 0.1 mg/L. All real-time Risk Quotient (RQ) and 30 year RQ values were risky. Conclusion: The use of pesticides that were not in accordance with the established rules causes pollution to the water sources consumed by the community around the Alahan Panjang farm. The excessive use of pesticides can cause contamination of water sources in communities around agricultures areas.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42989992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to analyse the effects of the septic tank condition on the microbiological quality parameters of the well-water, namely total coliform and Escherichia coli in Koto Tengah District, Padang. Methods: This study uses a quantitative research method. The data were collected by questionnaires, observation, interviews, and laboratory tests. Water sampling was collected by using the purposive sampling method where the water is taken from 20 wells originating from 10 coastal and 10 non-coastal areas. Results and Discussion: Total coliform was found in all samples, while Escherichia coli was found in two samples from coastal and five from non-coastal regions. The septic tank condition had a strong correlation with the total coliform concentration (r= -0.531) and affected the total coliform concentration in the well-water by 30.8%. However, the Escherichia coli concentration was not related and not affected by the condition of the septic tank (p>0.05). There was no significant difference in the concentration of the microbiological parameters in the coastal and non-coastal areas. Conclusion: The microbiological quality of the well-water did not comply with the quality standards to be used as water sources for the community. The total coliform concentration in the well-water was shown to have a close relationship with the septic tank's condition.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43468016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS) targets, air quality in the house is an indicator leading to diphtheria incidence as its bacteria can spread through the air. Efforts can be made to overcome diphtheria by providing DPT-HB-HiB3 immunization to increase body immunity and enforcing the CLTS program to improve air quality. Meanwhile, East Java experienced a decrease in CLTS and DPT-HB-HiB3 coverage in 2020. This study aimed to map the distribution of the disease and describe the correlation between diphtheria and its factors. Methods: This study evaluated diphtheria incidence in 38 regencies/cities in East Java. It used the Spearman correlation test to analyze secondary data from the Health Profile of East Java in 2018-2020. Data processing was done using Health Mapper and SPSS. Results and Discussion: No correlation was found between CLTS coverage and the incidence of diphtheria in 2018 (p = 0.207; OR = 0.201) while there was a correlation between DPT-HB-HiB3 immunization coverage and the incidence of diphtheria in 2018 (p = 0.006 ; OR = 0.441). The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020 stated that helminthiasis spread throughout sub-Saharan Africa, America, China, and East Asia where 60% suffered by children. STH infections may result from poor hygiene in many school aged-children, especially in primary school. This article was written to analyze the personal hygiene of primary school children that may affect the incidence of helminthiasis. Discussion: An integrative literature review was conducted using databases, from Google Scholar, Pubmed, Research Gate, and Science Direct databases. It was 24 articles consisting of 20 articles published by international journals and 4 articles in Indonesian journals. Most of the infectious agents in Asia were Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura, while Ascaris lumbricoides, Hookworms, and Trichuris trichiura dominate in Africa. Poor personal hygiene may a risk of infection. For example, children in Asia do not cut their nails or wash their hands. While children in Africa do not wash their hands, walked barefoot, and conducted open defecation. Conclusion: Personal hygiene of primary school children has a positive effect on the incidence of helminthiasis in Asia and Africa with different prevalences. To prevent and control helminthiasis in school children, schools should provide education about personal hygiene, improve sanitary facilities, and routinely give anthelmintics every six months.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45988213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous reports showed that children who practice poor hand washing or without using soap and running water are 2.175 times more likely to experience diarrhea. It was also discovered that exclusive breastfeeding can form antibodies and other nutrients that protect babies from infections such as diarrhea. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the most influential factors between hand washing habits and exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of diarrhea in Indonesia. Methods: This study used a meta-analysis method. Results and Discussions: The results showed that the pooled PR value of the hand washing habit variable e1.06 = 2.886 (95% CI 0.87 - 1.24) was greater than the exclusive breastfeeding e0.53 = 1.698 (95% CI 0.36 – 0.70). The data were obtained from articles and journals with a cross-sectional study design. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, people who did not apply proper hand washing habits are 2,886 times more at risk of diarrhea. Furthermore, babies who were not exclusively breastfed were 1,698 times more likely to have diarrhea than those who received exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: The results showed that the most influential factor between the two variables was the hand washing habit variable.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49369768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2017, 548 DHF cases were reported, and this increased to 1,276 cases in 2020. It is necessary to control and map influencing factors on DHF incidence to detect endemic areas and reduce its spread. Methods: This study was conducted to identify a spatial autocorrelation between DHF, hygiene, and clean latrines in Depok in 2020. The data were obtained from the Depok City’s Health Profile published in 2020. The Moran’s I and local indicator of spatial association (LISA) univariate and bivariate analysis methods were performed using the GeoDa application. Results and Discussion: DHF (Moran’s I = 0.32), hygiene (Moran’s I = 0.25) and clean latrines (Moran’s I = 0.24) had a significant positive autocorrelation with the clustered pattern. This indicated that data patterns clustered had similar characteristics in the area. Villages in the high-high DHF incidence quadrant were Kukusan, East Beji, Beji, Tanah Baru, Kemirimuka, Depok, Pancoran Mas, and Depok Jaya. In general, there was no spatial autocorrelation neither between DHF and hygiene, nor DHF and clean latrines. However, in some urban villages, significant autocorrelations between these variables were discovered. Conclusion: DHF incidence in this study formed a clustered pattern. Influencing factors, such as hygiene and clean latrines, followed the same pattern. Besides that, a spatial autocorrelation was also apparent between DHF and hygiene, as well as DHF and clean latrines in several urban villages in Depok.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43971698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to identify the description of food hygiene and sanitation practices as part of the food safety aspect in the practice of food purchasing in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. Methods: Data collection was conducted online in May 2020 from 411 respondents including data on sociodemographic, the proxy of knowledge level, perceptions, sources of information related to food handling, and the practice of food sanitation, and hygiene during the pandemic. Food sanitation and hygiene practices were assessed using a composite index of variables based on the Five Keys to Safer Food and preventive measures during the pandemic. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess factors associated with food sanitation and hygiene practices. Results and Discussion: Sufficient practice on food sanitation and hygiene is still relatively low (41.6%). An increased risk of poor food sanitation and hygiene practices was observed in people with less attention on the virus transmission while doing direct shopping, had a non-permanent job, single source of information on food handling during a pandemic, and were currently not married. Changes in the frequency of direct food purchasing and method of online food purchasing were shown as protective factors to better food and sanitation hygiene practice. Conclusion: The food sanitation hygiene practices of consumers during the pandemic in Indonesia are classified as unfavorable. Educational interventions using multi-source of media information are recommended to promote good hygiene food sanitation practices during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":32974,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47342727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
