All of them were aware that the baby should be fed only breast milk for 6 months, but the exclusive breastfeeding practice was found only in a very few mothers. Most of them had fed solid food after 3 months.Conclusion: Knowledge and practices on infant feeding do not go along despite the adequacy of knowledge due to the hindering factors like poverty, working mother, lack of support from family members and lack of support from the government infant. The gap between knowledge and practice can be lessened via informative activities on lactation management, endorsing policies and rights for mothers-infants relationship.","PeriodicalId":329681,"journal":{"name":"Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Science","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126274688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present the results of our experience that contribute to safe appendectomy in AM.Material and Methods: A total of 135 patients who underwent early surgery in presence of AM were reviewed. The diagnosis of AM was made clinically, using abdominal ultrasound and/or intra-operatively. All surgeries were done by qualified surgeons with variable experiences.Results: Mean operative day since onset of pain was 5.64 ± 2.1 (range: 3-15) days. A hundred and twenty patients underwent appendectomy, 116 (96.7%) of which was done within 7 days of pain. Two other patients operated on the 6th day had only drainage of abscess and no appendectomy. Remaining 4 (3.3%) appendectomies were performed on the 8th day. Two other patients operated on the 8th day had failed attempt of appendectomy and had just drainage of abscess. Two patients, operated on 12th and 15th day had just open-close. Both had given misleading history of duration of pain. Remaining 9 patients, from the 9th day onward underwent only just drainage of abscess. Only significant complication was injury to ileum during early years of experience when appendectomy was attempted on the 10th day. He fared well in two weeks.Conclusion: With experience we have developed confidence that experience and clarity of safe time limit makes early appendectomy in AM predictably safe. Few other patients who present later and need surgical intervention may be more safely managed by limited procedure like drainage of abscess without precarious attempt of appendectomy.","PeriodicalId":329681,"journal":{"name":"Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130711248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed to determine the incidence and susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus isolated from meat pie to antibiotics commonly administered in Makurdi.Material and Methods: A total of 180 samples were collected and evaluated for bacterial contamination and presence of antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Contaminants were isolated and identified using biochemical test. Antimicrobial susceptibility of isolates was determined using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method.Results: Eleven bacterial genera was identified.  Bacillus spp (85%) occurred most frequently, followed by Staphylococcus aureus (38.9%), while Edwardsiella spp (2.8%) occured the least.  Staphylococcus aureus was highly resistant to Cloxacillin (87.1%) but highly susceptible to Ofloxacin (88.6%).  Escherichia coli was resistant to Amoxycillin, Tetracycline, Cloxacillin and Augmentin but susceptible to Gentamicin and Ofloxacin. Conclusion: Meat pie sold in Makurdi habours Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with multiple antibiotic resistance. Regulation of the production and retail process of meat pie is advocated as a possible means of reducing contamination and the risk of transferring antibiotic resistant bacteria to consumers.","PeriodicalId":329681,"journal":{"name":"Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Science","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127841900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: The cross-sectional study design was employed through an online survey The data were collected from 218 respondents from April 15 to June 7, 2020 through Google Form Frequency, percentage, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H Test were used to analyze the data
Results: A high level of sensible knowledge regarding the overall knowledge (Mean=0 73, SD=0 11) about COVID-19 was observed Participants have shown good sense of knowledge towards awareness (Mean=0 73, SD=0 14) and prevention (Mean=0 88, SD=0 15) based knowledge as compared to the symptom (Mean=0 49, SD=0 19) based knowledge In response to attitude and practice, seven out of ten participants (70 6%) believed that the country will succeed in controlling the virus A good number of participants were wearing face masks (94 5%), improving hygiene (92 7%) and using sanitizer/soap (94%) Around 91 7% of them were maintaining social distancing whereas 73 9%of participants think that the ongoing lockdown should be extended to control the transmission of virus More dangerously, 42 7 % of participants believed anti-malarial drugs are useful for treating the patients with COVID-19
Conclusion: The present study revealed a good knowledge, optimistic attitude and appropriate practice among social media users towards COVID-19 The findings of this study might serve as the baseline for planning awareness campaigns to improve the knowledge, attitude and practice in some critical aspects to control the virus in public level, and implementing government efforts and plan for better containment of COVID-19","PeriodicalId":329681,"journal":{"name":"Janaki Medical College Journal of Medical Science","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123310511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
