Both approaches integrate relaying and channel coding, exploiting the fact that each partner knows the data relayed by the other partner to enhance the partner-to-partner link. The first approach is based on bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM); a key innovation is the use of set-partition (SP) labelling that enables the receiving partner to demodulate and decode based on a sparse subset of the original constellation. The second approach is based on trellis coded modulation (TCM); the local and relayed data are multiplexed together prior to encoding, and the receiving partner prunes the trellis edges inconsistent with the known relayed data. In both approaches, the receiver at the common destination benefits in two ways - indirectly from the increased diversity made possible by the enhanced partner-to-partner link, and directly by exploiting the SP-labeling/trellis-pruning in its decoding protocol. Simulations indicate that the new techniques offer significant performance gain over conventional cooperation based on time-sharing - a gain of 2.50 dB for the 16-QAM BICM system and a gain of 3.0 dB for the 8-PSK TCM system, both at a frame error rate of 10-2.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128720310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A formulation based on interference pricing is proposed, where it is shown that a single price per base-station can be computed and exchanged, in order to set the mobile transmit powers per cell. The work is premised on a decentralized network architecture where schedulers make decisions on users connected to their cell, and there is a low-rate inter-cell communication link to enable distributed interference mitigation. The proposed utility maximization approach provides a general framework for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems on the uplink and accommodates both optimal (MMSE) and sub-optimal (MRC) multi-antenna receivers.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127043972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most unsegmented network coding schemes fail to constrain the size of decoding window. Large decoding window not only challenges limited computational ability and decoding memory in practical environments, but also introduces large decoding delay, which is undesirable in delay sensitive applications. In this paper, we prove that the possibility of unacceptably large decoding window is innegligible, and verify the necessity of handling decoding window. To solve the issue, we argue that the number of unknown packets injected into the network must be strictly constrained at the source. Based on the idea, we improve unsegmented network coding scheme for opportunistic routing. Simulation results shows that the solution is robust to losses. In addition, to achieve optimal throughput, the redundancy factor should be selected larger than the reciprocal of end-to-end delivery ratio.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127513368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive new closed-form expressions for the outage probability and symbol error rate (SER) in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. Such expressions can be applied to opportunistic AF relaying networks consisting of an arbitrary number of relays, and in different channel fading scenarios. By analyzing the asymptotic results, we analyze the diversity order and the coding gain of opportunistic AF relaying networks.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131079493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we develop an analytical framework for joint spectrum sensing and access scheme based on Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP). Considering the hardware limitations, the spectrum aggregation range is restricted and only a part of channels can be sensed. For obtaining the reward function of POMDP, the channel switch probability is estimated by theoretic deduction. Under this POMDP framework, an optimal spectrum sensing and access scheme is proposed to minimize the channel switch times. Simulation results show that our proposed optimal scheme reduces the times of channel switches significantly.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132058596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality of service (QoS) and performance of wireless networks can therefore be analyzed in a simple way. We apply our model to Long Term Evolution (LTE) and indoor/outdoor environment. This model allows to analyze the deployment of a femto cells network when the femto base stations share the same bandwidth as deployed macro cells. We propose an analysis of the impact of transmitting power femto base stations on the performance in terms of coverage, throughput and QoS.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130892004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve its objective, a cognitive radio is required to conduct periodic spectrum sensing to avoid interfering with the licensed user of the spectrum. In this paper, we examine a multi-channel occupied by a licensed user (primary user) employing slow frequency hopping to access the channel. This method of access presents a challenge to a sensing cognitive radio node since the primary user effectively spreads its signal over the entire wideband and the spectrum holes are rapidly changing. By adopting a sensing strategy of jointly detecting all subbands in the channel simultaneously, we study the achievable unlicensed user (secondary user) throughput vis-a-vis the allowable interference on the primary network. The investigation is conducted under two cases; when the hop duration of the primary user is either synchronized or unsynchronized to the secondary user's time frame to investigate the effect of time frame misalignment which presents a more realistic model.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130894990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we combine a consensus algorithm, already proven efficient for the synchronization of wireless mesh networks, with a random broadcast for fully distributing its implementation. Unfortunately, when the distances between the wireless devices increase, the accumulation of non-negligible propagation delays resulting from the consensus algorithm introduce a drift in addition to the clock skew and offset of each node. We introduce a monitoring and broadcasting of the drift correction by a reference node that does not participate to the consensus algorithm, and show this allows for both solving the clock drift and aligning all nodes to the reference node's clock.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130408513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, accuracy deterioration due to uncertainty of RSS and offline manual calibration cost limit the deployment of Wi-Fi positioning systems. This paper proposes a signal perturbation technique to enhance existing support vector regression (SVR) based Wi-Fi positioning. By signal perturbation, more RSS training samples are generated, thus enhancing the generalization ability of SVR. In addition, access point (AP) selection method is applied to reduce the input dimension by discarding the redundant APs. The proposed method is compared with previous classical methods in a real wireless indoor environment. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves accuracy while reducing calibration cost.","PeriodicalId":329194,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127966522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
